Three days out of Santa Fe their wagon train had been attacked by Apaches. Ten-year-old Jenny Oberling stared in horror as her parents and older brothers were killed. When the attack was over, her only option was to live with Natty Morgan, a hard woman known for gambling and other vices.
Now sixteen, Jenny is reconciled to a dreary existence when she meets David Monroe. The young pastor's kind blue eyes and genuine concern warm her heart. For the first time since her parents died, Jenny hears about a God who loves her and can give her strength to forgive those who destroyed her family.
David determines to marry Jenny, but Natty has other plans. As David frantically works against time, he fears the worst: He may be too late to free Jenny.
Tender Journeys is both a prequel to both of the first two stories as well as a caught up sequel as of chapter 12. Here you learn the story of Jenny and her past where her family was viciously murdered and she was left to live with a despicable woman of greed. Also, is the story of David and how he came to the ministry and New Mexico. They meet and learn to love each other and then make a life. From one escape and then to heart break three times, to Jenny being kidnapped and David being set up for another heart break that could be his ultimate chance of healing... Both Jenny and David have to deal with the past and things that they thought they were past and had forgiven. How many times can something be taken from you before you break? Can you ever be truly whole? Things are all things that are explored in this tale.
Lovely short read with lots of action. Setting in mid 1800s during the settling of New Mexico when several Indian tribes were being displaced and suffering under our government’s rule. This story is about a Christian missionary and his brother, the new town doctor, thier new brides and families making an impact on the burgeoning town and local Indians. A story that tells about broken people and their faith journeys, overcoming the hardship of pioneer life.
