On October 12, 2003, five US soldiers are ambushed near the Kabul Military Training Center at a derlict former soviet tank park called The Bone Yard. Outnumbered 10 to 1, the soldiers must clover around the wrecked hulks of soviet tanks and battle it out until help arrives. But when it does, only 5 US soldiers show up to help. The senior officer of the group is shot 6 times but stays in the fight until a platoon sized Quick Reaction Force shows up from the 10th Mountain Division an hour after the ambush.

I have dead a few of James Christ's books from laterin this series. I have to say, he has a consistent writing style that is growing on me. By reading the later books first, i didn't know it was a series, i can see how his style grows more consistent from this first book. They have all been great reads, terminology seems to be consistent and errors are at a minimum so you're not getting "goofed-up". One this would be nice in reading this book specifically, have your pictures of the "Bone Yard" more towards the front so the readers have an idea earlier on about layout and do not have to try to form in their mind, which I found hard to do. I am not one to skip forward in a book, future readers might want to look forward in the book to get an appreciation for what the site looks like. Thank you James Christ for the book. I look forward to reading the rest. Ken M. USN Seabee, Retered 100% SC DAV.
Reading James F. Christ's book helped me better understand what is happening in Afghanistan. I felt like I was there, with research and gritty writing that made this book hard-hitting for me. Christ has interviewed the soldiers who are there fighting the battles and dealing with hte The author has interviewed soldiers, officers and enlisted, who are on the ground doing the fighting. This a great read for learning more about what is happening over there than is being shown on the news channels.
