Men of Faith

Andrew Murray

Rate this book
Born in South Africa, Andrew Murray (1828-1917) was sent to study in Scotland at age ten. When he returned to South Africa as a pastor and evangelist, he led a revival that shook the country.Murray's lifetime of work to deepen the spiritual life of Christians has touched the church worldwide through the legacy of his profound writing, including With Christ in the School of Prayer, Abide in Christ, and Raising Your Children for Christ. Less well-known is his involvement in church/state relations, theological debates, and the founding of universities. Murray's solidly biblical theology and fiery spiritual life made him a driving force behind the revivals of his day and a model of faithfulness for ours.Originally published by Bethany House as part of their "Men of Faith" series, this book is an edited version of a doctoral dissertation done at Gordon-Conwell Seminary intended to help people meet the man behind some of the most beloved devotional classics of our time.

I believe the subject of this biography, Andrew Murray, would have been better served if the book reflected the personality of its subject better. Andrew Murray was a vibrant, passionate, energetic man used powerfully by God. If the book had been written more like that instead of just reporting...it would have been more fun to read. Evenso, it is a good overview of Andrew Murray's life for someone unfamiliar with him. Just wished it had been more vibrant.

I've been edified by Murray's writings and wanted to know more about his own life and what qualified him to write. This biography doesn't take too long to read and I found Murray's life story to be as encouraging as his writing.
