As a young girl, Dora knew that she was extremely good looking. She became a prostitute when she was thirteen years old but she did not like the stress and other issues that came with the job. She wanted something better for her future so she quit prostitution and became a dance hall girl but soon realized that dancing could not provide the future she wanted either. At the age of fifteen, Dora promoted herself to the position of Madam, relocated to Deadwood Gulch in the Black Hills of South Dakota and went on to become one of the most successful Madams in the West.
It's only nine pages so you can read this quickly. I wish there were more to it. Tom hits the highlights of her life but doesn't delve into the details. It'd be nice if this were a historical fiction piece with character development thrown in, but it is more like an expanded Wikipedia page.
Madam Dora DuFran-Cat House Queen of Deadwood Gulch
Interesting historical data, however, it would have made a better novel. It took only a few minutes to read, was hoping for something worth sinking my teeth into.
