This picture book by James R. Thomas is about two brothers who come across pieces of trash on their way home from school. One brother wants to kick it and the other brother wants to save it to recycle it. In a nutshell, their father teaches both of the brothers about recycling and they come together to recycle as many things that they can.
The age level for this book is four to eight years old. I believe it would fit into the curriculum in the area of civics, due to how it promotes being a good citizen and taking care of one's environment. At first, I did not think that recycling was something that a four year old would pay attention to, however I read it with my baby cousin and the both of us had a positive learning experience. In correlation with the visual appeal, I liked the animations that showed the two brothers recycling, as well as the vibrant colors that made the text appealing and fun to read. My intended audience for this specific text would be kindergarten through the second grade while promoting a clean environment in my future classroom! (I hope this was not too long)

My mom won a copy of Boy Does Trash Fly! on Goodreads First Reads Giveaway and gave it to me after she read it. I will be using it when I teach with young children to give them a lesson about recycling. One of the requirements for Earth Day is that we include an element in our lesson plan about recycling by my principal. Boy Does Trash Fly gives me a new book to build that lesson around at the age level I need for the class. Thanks to mom, James R. Thomas and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for a great book to use with my class.

My thanks goes to Goodreads First Reads Giveaway Program and James R. Thomas, the author of Boy Does Trash Fly! for my copy that I won.

I enjoyed reading this children's book and have gifted it to my daughter that is a teacher. The lessons about learning to recycle are perfect for middle grade children to read. The illustrations are colorful and attractive for young children. I like to see books that have a message for young readers and present it in a positive manner.
