Janet Dean grew up in a family who cherished the past and had a strong creative streak. Her father recounted fascinating stories, like his father before him. The tales they told instilled in Janet a love of history and the desire to write.
She married her college sweetheart and taught first grade before leaving to rear two daughters, but Janet never lost interest in American history and the accounts of strong men and women of faith who built this country.
With her daughters grown, she eagerly turned to Inspirational historical romance. Today Janet enjoys spinning stories for Love Inspired Historical.
When she isn’t writing, Janet stamps greeting cards, plays golf and is never without a book to read. The Deans love to travel and spend time with family.
This book started off good, then they brought in Allie who was a brat, and Julie, for no reason. The two main characters were great without these fringe characters.
A western story about the Parrish family. Hannah Parrish who whose is motherless is an only child. Her rancher father sent her as a teen was sent to Charleston to live with her mothers family to become a lady as her mother had been. When her father became seriously ill she returned home to help run the ranch. Of course the ranch hands would not listen to her when she tried to take over from her father. The son of a neighboring ranch Matt Walker spent time at the Parrish ranch due to conflict with his own father and had been leading the crew for her father. Typical boy meets girl that has conflict, misunderstandings and eventually a HEA.
THE BRIDE WORE SPURS is the first time I experienced reading JANET DEANS work. A classic case of the perfect combination to win over a potential buyer. The title captured me, then the cover, the back blurb, and the last piece to seal the deal, reading the first pages. WOW! What a way to start a story.
Hannah Parrish needs to come up with a plan to keep her family ranch and quick, and Matt Walker seems to be just the man to put a plan into motion.
Matt couldn’t have been more surprised if Hannah Parris had asked him to marry her. Wait, she just did. With a ranch Hannah refused to lose, and Matt not wanting to give his heart to another, it was a match he couldn’t deny might just work.
MS DEAN is a gifted writer and storyteller. I loved the characters, as well as the plot. A marriage of convenience is one of my favorite scenarios. It’s not always easy to pull off a believable storyline, but MS DEAN managed to do just that.
I spotted THE BRIDE WORE SPURS on facebook, and thankful that I had.
Hannah and Matt have always gotten along, but now that Hannah has returned from "finishing school" and finds her father is ill, they must work together to keep the ranch going. Hannah will not give up the ranch that she grew up on and is willing to have a marriage of convenience to keep it and to have the ranch hands continue to work. They won't work for a woman, so she convinces Matt to marry her. Since Matt is a widower who planned to never marry again, the part about the marriage being a 'convenience' talks him in to it. But right from the start they have feelings for each other. And though they fight them, they can't keep them away for long. And a little girl into the picture and then a mentally unstable woman that comes along and you have a great story that is both entertaining and captivating.
Genre: Love inspired Historical, Christian Historical romance

Hannah Parrish is not your typical woman. She is more at home on the back of a horse than in a kitchen. When her father wants her to sale the ranch after his death and move back to South Carolina and live with her aunts family. She doesn’t want that. So she proposes to her neighbor Matthew Walker. A marriage that will allow her to continue to live on the ranch that she loves.
Janet Dean ventures into true Western romance with this charming story of a young woman set on proving herself a capable rancher. Dean's characters are sensitively drawn with believable emotions. Janet Dean's historical romances never disappoint!
I loved loved this book. My first read by Janet Dean. I hope that she wrote more western historicals. Or some how continue the series. If there is a series. 5 stars. 1 of my favorites.
