I liked this less than book one, probably because I wasn't attached to Millie in The Dopeman's Wife and that continued here. Plus it was her fault Hazel got hooked on heroin and why it took her so long to try and get clean.
There were also inconsistencies in the storyline, most notably the one at the end where That wasn't a huge bother, but every time it happened I was like "wait a minute".
Still going to read book three, and this one did succeed in making me cry .

I love everything that JaQuavis and Ashley writes. I think that JaQuavis did a good job on this book and I can't wait to read the Dopeman:Memoirs of A Snitch next week. The only problem that I had with the story is the part where Millie went to see Apple in jail but was told he was dead on page 193, but on page 189 Millie had put flowers on Apples grave while visiting Hazel's grave site, so she already knew he was dead. I felt sorry for Hazel, she finally got off of drugs which can be very difficult. Seven should of never left a dopefiend in his house with drugs there, everyone knows that a drug addict will steal from you no matter who you is. I didn't like how he kicked her to the curb, I understand that he was pissed at her because she brought Millie to his house, but again if he loved her so much he would have gave her a chance. GiGi was the reason that the pack for mouse came up short because she called her self trying to get Seven to kick Hazel out by showing her the drugs. In my opinion Millie can blame herself for the death of Hazel as well because she found the drugs in her place. I found myself laughing at the end because I really didn't see that coming! I have to say Seven was a smart dude, and Millie was no joke either. I give props to Seven for helping Hazel get off drugs and putting up with her throughout it all because that's a big responsibility to take on.

Good story but how did Millie put flowers on Apples grave then later visits him in jail only to find out he's dead!?! Also a lot of other corrections needed to be made! For Jaquavis to have this many mistakes in one of his books!?

3.5 - JaQuavis Coleman is a good writer. He's proves this time and again with his books with Ashley Antoinette Snell. For this reason some of the more stupid mistakes in this story piss me off. I'll include a few examples but first I want to say that it's a good book. It's a good trilogy in general so far and I'm excited to read the third and last book, Dopeman: Memoirs of a Snitch (Dopeman, #3). I think it's possible this was rushed, edited by someone different and/or it just it's all becoming blase to him. The story, for the most part, is very realistic, more so than a lot of the books in this genre today. But towards the end, maybe the last quarter of the book, it gets really out there. There were some parts, major aspects, that were far too tidy and neat with nothing much explained like it should have been.
The stupid mistakes included sentences with a wrong word in it, one sentence had Millie in it twice when it was actually Hazel and Millie. (pg.127) Around pg. 100 it's said that Seven was Hazel's first crush and one or two sentences later it's said that heroin was her first crush and she never had a crush otherwise. Stupid and should have been caught. Around pg. 200 two different stupid mistakes are obvious, the first being Millie getting clean in B-More. Earlier she had gotten clean in Flint with no relapse between the two times. A few pages later Seven is on his own yacht and thinking back to being on Hassan's yacht and what Hassan said about him eventually getting a yacht for himself. Here it's said that Hassan said he'd "never" get a yacht when in actuality he said something to the effect of "having to flip many more bricks" before it would happen.
Now I realize that these aren't things that would kill a story for most and they aren't for me either. But they are annoying as hell and they should have been caught. Either by author or editor or someone else entirely, they should have been caught. Shouldn't we strive to make our book the best it can be? These mistakes add up and they took a 4 star book down to a 3 star book. These examples stated here aren't the only ones, just the ones that have stuck in my mind until now.
Why was this a 4 star book instead of a five star book like the story that came before it, The Dopeman's Wife (Dopeman, #1)? Easy. It went too far out into left field and Coleman didn't do his homework. There were too many descrepancies with Millie and Hazel and their heroin use. Things that are very easy to figure out even if you've never met a heroin addict. A five minute search on addiction to heroin would give you all you ever wanted to know. And, even better, if you've actually known an addict or did one on one research you'd get an even better insight into the whole arena. Not done here.

They do now go out and do normal things without getting their sick off.
Around pg. 150 Millie goes 5 days without using heroin or anything else. No. Yet again. Going 5 days without heroin or another other opiate, unless something like methadone/dose, suboxone, etc. is being taken wouldn't be like portrayed here. So why portray it if you can't do it correctly? I got the impression from JaQuavis' messages in the front and back of the book that this story is important to him. Is it really?
Last one that I'm going to mention. Seven gets shot and it apparently struck nerves that altered his brains emotional side and his compassion for others. lol Now, I'm no doctor but I have to question this. Common sense tells me to question this. I don't know how many doctors are out there reading this but if there is anyone with any knowledge please chime in. (Produce facts please and back them up - don't tell me 'Yo, that can really happen!' because that's not good enough. I want facts and nothing less. I would check myself but I honestly don't want to search something so idiotic on-line. What if someone looks at the history on my computer someday and sees that? Nuh-uh.

This shit was so fucking good! Those last couple chapters had me screaming. Usually The Coleman's make me sad and depressed (even though they tell a good story), but I'm so fucking satisfied with how this shit ended!
Whole ass spoiler full book summary to follow:
So Milli from The Dopeman is back on drugs and she running with Hazel. After Hazel gets clean, with Sevens help, she makes the mistake if bringing Milli to Sevens home. Milli trades that info to a rival for free dope, the nigga comes in and shoots Seven in the head, everybody thinks he's dead. Hazel reveals that she let Milli in one day to bathe and Seven knows that's how the nigga got to him. He sends Hazel away, saying she betrayed him and he never wants to see her again. She goes to Milli distraught and intends to relapse when she sees a pack of dope and a needle Milli had out bout to get high. It's laced witg rat poison unbeknownst to Milli and Hazel, and was given with the intention of killing Milli because Seven knew she set him up. Hazel shoots the bad dope and dies.
Now THIS where the shit had me gripped! Milli wants revenge on Seven for killing Hazel. Even though Hazels death was ALL ON HER!!!! Milli got her started in the first place, and Milli set up the robbery that got Haxel banished from Sevens life. She deserved to die for what she did to Seven, but literally rebuilt her reputation in Baltimore off Tikal Manny's name, hooked up with Hassan, who Apple instructed to cut Seven off from the dope, and had the power to touch Seven.
But that nigga is untouchable. She tried to torture Rah into giving Seven up. She brought his baby and his baby's mom to convince him, and at first I thought he really did give him up. He told them Seven had security everywhere except the garage, knowing that shit was a lie, and Seven watched her crew come in his garage and put tracking devices on his cars. Milli thought she was gonna blow up his boat and hit that detonator, only to watch her entire crew get blown to smithereens, while Seven was on his big ass yacht with his adopted son...Rah and Toya son...because they're both dead. He planted TEN MUTHAFUCKIN BRICKS on her ass in a doggy bag, and the Feds came and nabbed her ass up.
I normally don't do a whole recap, but I was getting mad that it seemed like Milli was really winning this war and she did not deserve that. She caused all the bullshit, including the attempt on her life. She promised Apple that she would avenge Hazel. His perspective was fucked up as well. He knew that laced pack of dope was meant for Hazel and he knew why. He should have been on Sevens side against Milli because he raised him like a son and she almost got him killed. He walked Hazel through her recovery every step of the way, even sitting in her meetings with her to make sure she ain't dip off. He threatened Milli to stay the fuck away from Hazel, just so she would be more lively to succeed and get better. He loved her. I was mad they didn't get to be together. But either way, Apple shouldn't have wanted Seven dead.
That's all I got...I'm just glad Milli plan backfired on her ass. Now she gotta live with the role she played in Hazels death and the death of her whole crew.

This book was action packed ! It’s the sequel to the first book in the series so it’s recommended you read the first book before starting this one. This book focus on Haze who is addicted to drugs and this books really takes an in-depth focus on the life of someone who is addicted to drugs and their struggles. Hazel meets someone who changes her life and from there you would think things would only get better right? Actually that is where the action starts. The ending was a complete plot twist an ending I didn’t see coming. If anyone is looking for an urban book with more twists and turns than the 91 freeway in Los Angeles this is the book for you.

i LOVED it! I always do! This book is juicy as hell! I felt kind of bad for Gigi (Seven's girlfriend) cuz I don't feel like she was entirely wrong for how she felt about Hazel (a f*cking HEROIN ADDICT) being in her f*cking HOUSE! She was a damn ADDICT! F THAT! She would have to get well somewhere else! And then, I didn't always like the way Seven sometimes treated Gigi in favor of Hazel. It was such a good fun book. I loved it. I also REALLY loved Millie. I thoroughly enjoyed her character development. *Chef's kiss*

This is straight up gangsta. The block is hot and the street team is loyal until one dopefiend puts a twist in the game. The storyline is tight but there are several errors in timing and grammar. I can't wait until the final installment of the trilogy.

I expected this book to be a little more interesting and it was... towards the end. The beginning had way too much backstory and seemed like it took forever for the story to pick up. I'm interested in reading part 3 to see how the trilogy ends.

I gave this book a better rating then the first one. Now this story was well executed. Only didn’t give 5 stars because there were way to many spelling errors. & at one point in the book it says Millie puts flowers on Apple’s grave but then the chapter or so after says she went to visit him at jail only to find out he had died? So that part didn’t make any sense to me. But back to the story, It paints such a vivid picture of how someone so innocent can fall victim to the streets. Millie let’s start with Millie. I blame her for getting Hazel hooked on drugs. It was like she was a parasite in Hazels life. In my eyes she just was a product of her environment. Her actions were not ill willed. She was just a hurt girl. Now her actions did cause for the demise of someone who definitely didn’t deserve it. I was rooting for Hazel I really was. I mean you can’t help but root for such an innocent soul. She had gotten herself on the right track and everything. Her life had been filled with so much hurt heroin was truly her way of coping. I just knew when she walked out that hospital room something bad was gonna happen. Everything was going to perfect. If only she wouldn’t have gave into temptation. No that wasn’t temptation, her heart was broken and she didn’t know how to cope with that. Now Rah ! Rah went out like the solid nigga he is. At first I was so disappointed when he gave up Sevens location but it’s always a method to the madness. He knew his boy like the back of his hand. Real niggas do real things. Nowwww my favorite character Seven. Seven was thorough. I loved how he loved Hazel. Even when at the hospital how he said he never wanted to see her again, he knew that wasn’t true. His heart broke as the words was leaving his mouth. I was hoping they would’ve made it together, I really did but I’ve learned with A&J not to many get happy endings lol. My only wish was I wished he would’ve gotten the chance to explain to Apple what truly happened. But the ending was great. He said he was untouchable! Seven is a smart man all his moves are calculated. Again this book was excellent on to the 3rd installment

Ok so I went through so many thoughts and emotions reading this. Reading so many of A&J’s books you do begin to see a pattern. When this book first started I found myself comparing this book to Luxe. Seven=Noah, Hazel=Bleu, Gigi=Naomi even some of the wording and lines read very similar. So I was thinking that I was rereading the same story but with different names. Halfway through the book, there were some twists and turns that I didn’t expect. I can’t say I really blame Seven for how he reacted to Hazel. It wasn’t fair for Apple to ask Seven to do what he should have done as a parent. That was a heavy weight to put on him and he genuinely tried the best that he could. Hazel just couldn’t shake those demons and her immaturity allowed her to make foolish decisions. If we’ve learned anything from these books and maybe even real life experiences is to never trust a dopefiend. They will do anything to anyone and not think twist. It’s an illness. Hazel essentially was the cause of her own downfall. The recap of the Dopeman’s wife was unnecessary and was a filler that we didn’t need (at least I didn’t). I found myself rooting for Seven because it was his kind heart that did him in. Poor Rah! The streets ain’t loyal that’s for sure. Never be too cocky thinking you’re untouchable. He definitely held things down until the end. Millie was something else. I didn’t really care for her in the first book and I didn’t like how she was able to rise after Hazel’s death. I’m glad she got what was coming to her. Overall it was a really good part two and I’m ready to finish the series with book 3.

My lovely sister recommended I try audiobooks. I didn't recognize JaQuavis Coleman right away because the urban novel landscape has changed quite a bit since The Coldest Winter Ever. So I googled my favorite publisher (Triple Crown Publishing) from back in the day and found I really do love everything that JaQuavis writes. I think that JaQuavis did a good job on this book and I can't wait to read more of her books next. I was too damn emotional throughout this whole book. I’m a daddy’s girl 10000% so seeing the pain that reflected through Apple while Hazel was going through it had me crying so much. Millie annoyed the crap out of me but I’ve never done drugs before nor do I know anyone who did drugs so I don’t know the affect of drug use. Happy she got clean. Hopefully her story isn’t over. All she wanted was love and it seems like in the last two books it keeps getting ripped away from her. Hopefully Seven finds love and even though he disabled I still think he is fine. (He got that limp/pimp/gangster walk) can’t wait to start part three.

Walks you through the streets in the eyes of Hazel Brown a young girl gone wrong. I really despised the older lady her Freind Millie because she was older and took the young girl under her wing to a life of pure hell on heroine. A tragic incident caused Millie to turn her life around. I was so hurt because I thought Seven her father’s Freind (Hazel) turn against her. A Must read if I go on I’ll give this good read up! And it’s a must read so you can see what happens for YOURSELF! Jaques Coleman did it again! He’s a good author I love his trilogies he walks you through.❤️

It was a good story but there were so many contradictions. Does no one proof read anymore? I mean as a author it's YOUR story, so shouldn't you remember what your characters did and said. *SPOILER ALERT*

It's says the even though Millie didn't know Apple like that, she paid respects at his grave. Then a few pages later it said she wanted to talk to him about the best way to get a seven, but when she went to go see him she found out he was dead. Huh? Clearly someone didn't pay attention before this was published. Hopefully 3 will be better than 2

No way near as fast paced and exciting as the first book in the series. Calling this book a sequel is streaching it since the only reoccuring character had a minor role in the last book.
Im wasn’t really invested in the characters this time around as I have a difficult time relating to the struggles of addicts. Hazel is clearly the protagonist of this story but she just goes around doing drugs despite having lots of support. Millies insistance of dragging Hazel down with her becomes incomprehensible since its repeated time and again that she cares deeply for Hazel.

This 2nd book was on point like the first one and all the rest of this author's books! Apple has to raise his daughter Hazel until he goes to prison. She turns into a dope fiend by her friend Millie. Seven takes over Apple's operation and looks after Hazel. The storyline takes a turn that you won't see coming! You gotta read the book to see what happens and how it plays out. I wonder if there's another book?

This book was soooo much better then the 1st one! I loved all the characters and the story line. My heart totally went out to hazel and milliey. The ending made me so sad! I can't wait for book 3. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because on 1 part it said milliey was visiting apples grave and then 2 pages later it says she found out he died. There was 1 other inconsistencie but I can't remember. Over all great book!

The narration was great, love to listen to books narrated by iiKane. The book wasn't that good though, I felt like it was all over the place and something's didn't add up....like Mili thinking Seven was dead. Hazel talked to Mili about Seven right before she died so why would she think he was still dead. Sevens reaction to Hazel after finding out she invited Mili over to help her was dramatic. Hazel using the drugs meant for Mili was predictable. Overall wouldnt read again or recommend.

This book was so good. I was rooting for Hazel to get it together. I never liked Millie and it's her fault everything went south for Hazel. The fact that she wants revenge against Seven and Rah is some gaslighting dope fiend mentality. And I was so disappointed with Apple. Millie! Of all the people, he chose Millie! I feel strongly about this, that chick needs to die. Poor Rah.
