Lover Uncloaked was a wonderful surprise. Having read most of Folsom's vampire books (Scanguards vampires), I didn't know what to expect from this new series. After all, there weren't any vampires in it. But the hot immortals and the powerful villain give any vampire a run for his money. Despite an action-packed plot, the romance doesn't fall short: the encounters between Aiden and Leila are sizzling whether it be a simple kiss or full blown lovemaking. And one thing about that: "the Stealth Guardian way" of making love just blew me away. Folsom is known for her hot sex scenes, but in this book, she also shows off her skill for writing action and fight scenes as well as managing a large cast of interesting character, who I hope will get books too. And the villain: well, I can only say that I'm interested in what's going to happen with Zoltan. And I hope the next book will be about Hamish.
Folsom can hold her own with authors like Kresley Cole, JR Ward, and Sherrilyn Kenyon. Her world building is excellen, and I believe she's set up a great new world, which warrants many books …I hope there will be many of these.
I have been a fan since the very first book of Ms. Folsom's I've read, and this one doesn't disappoint. Her writing skill just keeps increasing and and find myself having a hard time being patient for the next one.
The story is about Aiden, a Cloak Warrior & Leila, a talented scientist who is on a major breakthrough of developing a drug that will cure Alzheimer’s. The Cloak Warriors are an ancient race who for centuries has protected mankind from the Fear Demons. Unbeknown to Leila the drug she is developing weakens the human mind and makes them more susceptible to being taken over and controlled by Demons. Aiden has been assigned to protect Leila and use any means to ensure that the Demons do not obtain control of the drug, even if that means killing Leila.
I have never read anything by Ms Folsom before so really didn’t know what to expect but had a quick look at some of her previous works and they seemed to have been received well which was a good sign. I did really like this book but I thought that it was a little slow in the beginning but once it got going it was fast paced and exciting. I liked Aiden, the poor man really tried to keep his hands off of Leila but despite desperately trying to, he could not call a halt to the natural pull of his mate. I really liked Leila’s character right from the start - Although she was immediately attracted to Aiden and she too felt that pull but unlike a lot of PNR she didn’t just fall into his arms, she did try to resist the attraction as he wanted to destroy her research and all hopes of helping/curing her parents.
We got introduced to some of the other Cloak Warriors and I am looking forward to reading their stories – especially Hamish!

I thought I was going a bit loopy when I saw the cover for this book as I was convinced that I had seen it before and not too long ago, which really puzzled me as I knew that I hadn't seen this actual book/synopsis before.
So I put my brain into gear and tried to remember where I had seen it and then it clicked - I was convinced I had seen the exact same cover on a Mills & Boon (Harlequin)so went through the back catologue on the M&B website and look what I found ......obviously not going loopy at all LOL!
Awesome new series & so different than anything I've read in a while. We are introduced to a brand new breed of warriors with this series. Tina really outdid herself this time. Can't wait for the next one!
This was an OK read, which , for me, lost major points for heroine. I found Leila not a very appealing character, without zest, warmth or any kind of charm. Also, for someone who is suppose to be highly intelligent, neither her dialog or actions supported that.
Cloak Warriors, like Aiden, have been protecting human kind for centuries from the evil Demons of Fear. He's been given the task of keeping an eye on a human female, Leila whose created a drug that's supposed to cure the early stages of Alzheimer, but unfortunately it makes humans susceptible to control by the Demons of Fear. The Cloak Warrior Council is divided. Some believe Leila should be protected and others believe the only way to eliminate the threat is to eliminate its inventor. While the Council determines her fate, Aiden is sent to protect her....for the time being. Once Aiden meets her, she stirs something in him that he believed long gone.
Leila is a scientist whose parents' memory is deteriorating and are going through the early stages of Alzheimer. Now she's created a drug to save her parents. Unfortunately, she meets the enigmatic Aiden.....who tells her she must destroy her drug and its dangerous. She's not having it....its her life's work. Being so close to saving her parents she's decided to protect her work no matter what this sexy mystery man says despite feelings she starts to develop for him.
Time is running out for both of them. Can Leila take him for his word and destroy everything that means so much to her for the sake of the world? And if she's helbent on keeping the drug, will Aiden beable to dispatch her??
This was a great start to a series!I was sucked in from the very begining. Aiden is super sexy and Leila is the perfect complement to him. I cant wait to read the next one! Tina Folsom definitely has a winner here! Its absolutely a MUST read!
About the same feelings as the original review. I re-read this one in preparation for book 2 which is being released next week. Four YEARS after book 1... It had been three years since I'd read this book, so I needed a refresher. Plus! Good news, book 2 is Hamish's story!! I'm glad I did a reread. I didn't remember anything. Happy reading!
**Origional Review February 1, 2013**
I give this one almost 4 stars (I decided to round up).
Good start to a new series. Aiden and Leila are a good pair although, they both irritated me at times. She is very whinny at times and and he is a jacka** at times. But overall its a good story, and when we finially got to the steamy sceens, they were very good. I hope Hamish gets a book next. I will definately be reading more. Also looking forward to Oliver's story in the Scanguards series.
I absolutely adored Aiden. He's a Stealth Guardian just wanting to keep his charges safe. It doesn't always work out like that though. There are traitors in their midst. Leila just so happens to be Aidens newest charge. From the very beginning Aiden knew something was different about this charge. She wasn't just a charge to him. Even though Leila is Aiden's love interest and to be a "brilliant" scientist she was a nitwit of epic proportions. I just couldn't with her. She never looked too deeply at a situation she always just looked on the surface. Makes me wonder how she ever made the formula she made. Although I did like this story and most of the characters Leila just didn't do it for me.
Loved the way the book unfolded and the characters were entangled in their own self doubt only to find they were both feeling the same way. Tina has a way of making this the core other books and it always has a different feel based on the characters backgrounds.
Cloak Warrior is the first book in a new series by Tina Folsom who is famous for her Scanguard Vampire and Venice Vampyr series. I'm a big fan of Tina's and was really looking forward to reading this one.
The story focuses on Aiden a cloak warrior set to protect humans from the forces of evil and Leila, a brilliant researcher on the verge of discovering a drug that may cure Alzheimer's Disease. Unfortunately the drug may inadvertently allow humans to open channels in their mind to be more susceptible to being controlled by the forces of evil. As with a lot of stories dealing with demonic forces they want to control the world and the more chaos, fear, and destruction the more negative energy they feed off and strengthen. However, Aiden is assigned to protect Leila from the forces of evil and needs to destroy the research to ensure it never falls into the wrong hands.
Now the story started strong, but somehow as the story progressed it seemed to lose its steam for me. I found at times I couldn't really connect to the main characters. It could have been that I didn't get know the characters in terms of their morals, and their values. Although some aspects of their character were mentioned it didn't seem it was demonstrated. It reminds me what I heard a writer say "don't just tell me what is happening but show me" and I just felt in the book I was being told about scenes and didn't really feel the scenes. It felt at times the characters were going through the motions but the emotional content wasn't strong. The concept of the book was good and really wanted to like this latest book from Tina, but I felt it was lacking the suspense, action and romance to pull me in and engross me.
*I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review*
Edge of passion is one of those books that I enjoyed reading but will probably not think about again now that I’m finished. It had all the elements you expect from PNR. It focuses on a man who has to protect a woman; we have seen stuff like this before so there are no real surprises.
The storyline is good, it moved along at a nice pace and there was plenty of action to keep me entertained. The issue I had with the book was the characters. Leila was a bit too uptight and at times I thought she was quite stuck up. She makes some pretty poor decisions but I didn’t find her as irritating as some of the other leading ladies in PNR. Aiden was better but some of his actions were questionable to say the least.
The romance between them was interesting. I liked the build-up and the way the characters danced around each other. They desired each other whilst managing to annoy each other to the point of rage. It created a lot of sexual tension which I loved. I lost a little interest in the romance when they got together. The sex scenes were hot but Folsom brings a supernatural element into their love making which I found distracting.
All in all Edge of Passion was an enjoyable read but us not a book I would rave about.
This was absolutely fab I loved it from start to finish a fab romance story with a hot sexy warrior sent to protect a human scientist from the demon's but she stir's desire and passion in him like no one has before, Leila has devoted her life to her work to cure Alzheimer's Disease and gain her parent's and their memories back but when the world goes wrong around her and more then one person tries to get her research she must trust the sexy Aiden and will she be able to destroy her research and her parent's hope's for the safety of human kind.
This story is action packed, fast paced and full of desire, lies and deception on both sides of the worlds but is a great story of lust, desire and ultimate understanding of the bond between 2 people, it is a must read for all fantasy romance lovers and I eagerly await the next one xx
Here is my take on this book....I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!! I can't explain how great the writing in this story is. The way Ms. Folsom describes everything just seems so real. The fights, the feelings and the passion. You know how sometimes you read books and the writing just makes you go "Is that even possible?" or "wait, what? I don't get it". You definitely do not get that with this book. When reading the steamy scenes, she makes it so your not embarrassed about what your reading, no crude descriptions. No shocking words that make your eyes goes wide and look around hoping no one noticed. Just perfect. I can not wait til the next Cloak Warriors installment comes out!! Everyone needs to put this in their Read Now list.
I found the first chapter a bit a slow start but once I reached the second chapter the storyline started to get a little interesting and but the forth chapter I couldn't put in down. I purchased this while I was at work in the morning and I continued reading it throughout my work day. I really enjoyed this book. A very fine read.
This is the first book in a new series. Cloaked warriors protecting humans (charges) as they are known, from the Demons trying to take them over. This is a great start and can not wait for the next book in the instalment.
I love every book that Tina Folsom has wrote. This sega is just the beginning of something wonderful that is starting! I am excited to see where Tina takes this team of supernatural beings!
Wasn’t intending to read this series but when it became a crossover with the Scanguards series I was reading I decided to go back and add it on. The premise is an immortal race who have been guarding humans against demons for centuries.
Aiden is an experienced Guardian who has been assigned to guard a human female named Leila who is close to creating a cure for Alzheimer’s which would normally be a good thing, but the Stealth Guardians fear it would be used to eliminate human’s natural resistance to the demon mind control.
Aiden is also approaching his two hundredth year, rasen, mating season, was drawing close, so when he first sees Leila he attributes his obsessive attraction for her as nothing but hormones.
It took me a long time, a lot of patience and some finagling to like this guy. He’s a self-righteous jerk who only sees what he wants to see, what benefits his particular cause and forget the rest of the world. What really helped his case though is that Leila is sort of a clueless hypocrite herself (ie: the way she labeled people before knowing the situation.), but she's not totally hopeless. She ends up redeeming him in my eyes. All I can say is that’s a good thing for this book that I already wanted to read the later ones that are connected to the Scanguards series or I probably would have given up on these two. Like the story world but I hope these two are not they’re best examples. (Enya’s not much better.)
Between the Stealth Guardian's way of making love (which could be very problematical) and the lead cells, these guys play for keeps.
Fave scenes: Leila’s custom made pendant, the broken ticket machine, Aiden’s visit to Leila’s house and escaping the vortex.
I’m not really sure why I put off reading this spin-off series for so long. I’ve read the partner series to this by the same author and love them. Maybe it’s the Stealth Guardian name? When I tried to imagine what they were about, it seemed to come with an angel connotation, but don’t worry - they are certainly not saints here. They are more like the best elements of witches and vampires smooshed together, ruled by a council.
Aiden is the son of the ruler of said council and he’s been trying his whole life to make up for the early death of his sister. With that chip in his shoulder, it’s no surprise that he believes he will never fall for one of his charges. It’s exactly what happens to him when he meets Leila. The council puts him in charge of protecting her because her research inadvertently could give demons access to human minds without their usual tricks and persuasion. Leila has personal reasons for her research which makes giving it up not such an easy task. These two definitely don’t see eye to eye at first, but the sizzle is definitely there.
The larger world building that happens here is also a highlight. We meet the local team of Stealth Guardians, learn about their rules, traits, behaviors, and enemies (namely - demons). The romance may have been a given, but I really enjoyed the characters we met and hope they all find their mates along the way in the books to come. I’d definitely recommend this series, with or without Tina Folsom world building exposure. The book was a good length and very addictive.
A female character who is supposed to be an incredibly intelligent scientist discovers the supernatural world when the hero essentially “kidnaps” her to protect her from demons that have indirectly tried to kill her twice in one day. Does she act rationally? No. She repeatedly considers going to the police, which would obviously be useless in this situation.
When the male protagonist explains that the Alzheimer’s cure she’s working on could help demons enslave humanity and that it needs to be destroyed, what does she do? Does she ask for more information? Of course not. Instead, she lies to protect her research and still plans to release it commercially. Why? Because she doesn’t care about the consequences and just wants money, you might think. That would at least make sense.
But no, her reasoning is that the cure for Alzheimer’s is more important than anything else. Humanity has a right to this cure, and she’s doing something good! Who cares if humanity could be mentally controlled by demons—at least she’ll have defeated Alzheimer’s. At that point I stopped reading.
Do we see how stupid this is? The only thing more annoying than a “strong, independent, but stupid” heroine is a “strong, independent, but stupid” heroine that the author wants us to believe is intelligent. Please, authors, enough of this.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is the first time that I have read a book by this author, and as far as PNR goes, it's OK.
Aiden is an immortal guardian. He guards humans who are in danger of being influenced by demons to get them to come to the dark side. In this instance, he is tasked to protect Leila, a very capable scientist on the verge of a breakthrough. This could be invaluable as a treatment for the humans as well as being dangerous to them if the demons were to obtain her data. They will stop at nothing to obtain it. Can Aiden protect her from being swayed to the dark side?
It's an interesting concept, but I found it hard to connect with some of the characters. Aiden is stuck in the past. He is dedicated to his duties as is Leila. For most part, she is a hard character to like. They have their differences and in the end their feelings prevail.
I really liked it, although I would like to know a bit more about how her life eventually turns out. Maybe that will be included in the next book. I also felt that at times their relationship could have been a bit more loving, I would have liked to see a bit more wooing. I really appreciated seeing such a strong female character in the book, and I feel like to stay true to character that needs to be represented in her future plans.
This is my first Tina Folsom book. The imaginary world created is interesting and believable in context. Liked the characters and the story line as it introduces the world and everyone's place in it with modern day issues being addressed. Doesn't hurt that there are hot immortals out there defending all us humans from the dark side!
Enjoyable enough read and the action was good. I just found it a bit drawn out and didn’t feel any connection between Laila and Aiden. Hot sex does not make a relationship. The fact Laila was keeping secrets right to the end which caused others harm also annoyed me. Will probably read the next book as I liked the other characters but no rush.
I loved this, leila and Aiden were perfect for each other, loved the tension and excitement and the way Tina describes the sex scenes was brilliant, making love the stealth guardian way was nothing short of genius. So looking forward to Hamish's story and learning more about Zoltan, what happened to him to make him crave power so much? Well done tina
I'm kinda disappointed. Folsom's Scanguard Vampire series had the action and romance that is on the same level as this one, but it was better? Maybe it's just because it's the first book, and maybe it's just because I haven't read the Scanguard series for a year or two so my memory of it may not be accurate, but I'm gonna try book two. Hopefully it reads better than this one did.
This was an interesting series starter. I'm intrigued by the concept of the Stealth Guardians and the demons. Aidan and Leila are an unlikely couple, but it works for them, once they get over their trust issues. I am going to switch over to the Scanguard series so that I understand the upcoming crossovers in the Stealth Guardians series.
