For a very short book, this was an interesting one. I'm just using this as a quick book to get my reading challenge done. But it's a very good book. The reading level for this is 5th grade and I'm over the level, I still find it very informative. It gives good history about George Washington while keeping the story interesting to younger kids.
I thought that this was a pretty cool book about George Washington. The only thing I didn't like was it didn't go into very much detail. I chose this book because George Washington is one of my favorite famous people. I would recommend this book to other students, even though it doesn't get into very much detail, it gave a basic overview of his life. Throughout the book George was always searching for adventure as a kid. Then he was one of the greatest war generals ever. When he was an old man he looked back on his life and saw he got enough adventure to fit three life times. One thing I thought was interesting was that George asked that he would be buried two days after he died because of his fear of being burned alive. This book is like other books in the "I am" series, because it gives a basic overview of their lives and gives more detail about what that person was famous for. This book does not have sequels but if it did I would read them because I want to know more about George Washington.
I like this "I Am..." biography series from Scholastic, and because of its brevity, elementary readers will as well. Not only does the author provide details about the rise of her subject, George Washington, to the presidency, but she also describes his formative years and some of the difficult parts of his life. Biographies such as these that briefly mention a demanding mother or the loss of a step-son or step-daughter or even explain how Washington was reluctant to become president and eager to return to Mount Vernon allow readers to see the human side of figures in history who may seem so exalted that few can relate to them. The brief introduction from the point of view of Washington himself gives readers a glimpse into what mattered to this man. Having illustrations sprinkled throughout the text adds to the book's appeal, but sometimes the physical features of the figures seem out of proportion.
I would give " I Am George Washington" an 8 out of 10. The book had good facts and went in description. I liked the way the book was set up like a story about his life as you and the author traveled through time in Georges life. Over all I would recommend the book "I Am George Washington
I thought this book was great for people who wanted to learn more about George Washington. It took you through life when he was a little all he way to his death day. It told you about how he was a general in the army and president. It told the story of how Washington got elected to be president. As well as what conflicts were taking place during that time period. This is also a great book for people who have a passion for history. It also gives information about how America managed to break free from the British rule. This book is great for anybody who wants to learn about the first president of the United States. Now this book is great but I wish that they would have gave you more information about his childhood. But overall this is a great book and one that I definitely recommend to others.
