Naked Hero #2

Naked Hero - The Journey Home

Rate this book
‘Naked Hero’ is the story of Lewis Macleod’s search for the elusive perfect man as he battles with the adversities of life. Told in two parts, the second ‘The Journey Home’ picks up his story at Wimbledon six months after his adventures Down Under in ‘The Journey Away’. But things have moved on, and the man who will watch him play the final from his supporter’s box is a surprise package.
Lee Porter and Scott Taylor, the two suitors in Australia, are still hovering in the background. But it is The Big Dour Scotsman, Gavin Strang, who now takes up the challenge to win Lewis’s favour. From London the story moves to Gozo, a small Mediterranean island steeped in mythology, where Lewis escapes having regained his Wimbledon title. He needs time away from the public glare to reassess his life. Gavin is there acting as a friend, but romance inevitably blossoms.
It is a thorny path the couple tread however, with turmoil aplenty in the form of Jilly McPhee – a mischievous minx who is after a scoop. Lee Porter is far from idle either, and he’s there with a sting when the action returns to England. But for the nomadic Scotsman, Lewis Macleod, the journey home must go full circle, and it is north of the border where he must go to find the answer to his private quest.

Note: ‘Naked Hero – The Journey Home’ was originally released as an experimental piece of work under the simpler title ‘Naked Hero’ and is now offered as a rewritten polished novel. It functions perfectly well as a standalone books but would be appreciated more if read after 'The Journey Away'.

J. K. Brighton originally hails from the West of Scotland - The Doon Valley to be specific, a beautiful but harsh landscape once dominated by coal mining. He escaped at the first opportunity and studied Biology at Stirling University from which he graduated with Honours.
He moved to London with its vibrant gay scene, and spent the first few years teaching before moving into the finance sector during a time of boom. But a nine to five (seven more like!) life was not for him, and he escaped once again to set up his own self publishing business.
Having taken the time to learn the art of creative writing, he wrote Naked Hero - a book in two parts. It is a work of fiction, but draws on much of his life. In the main character, Lewis Macleod, you will find J. K. Brighton creeping out from time to time.

This is the follow on book, the first being Naked Hero - The Journey Away, which I read and reviewed previously. As in the first book, it is another amazing read by this brilliant new author. In this second book, our hero, Lewis Macleod, escapes from the media frenzy after winning Wimbledon, with an infamous, but strangely lovable, tv reality star, Gavin Strang, to the island of Gozo, Malta, where a new set of beautifully crafted characters come into play. Some of the scenes had me in stitches of laughter as this genius works his magic. The plot thickens and develops page by page as Jilly McPhee, Gavin's agent, makes an entrance and like all great reads, it builds to the perfect ending where our young hero, like Odysseus, finally returns home.

These are gay romance novels like no other. The characters are real and complex and although there is no actual sex scenes, it is sexy as hell in parts. This story has humour, tears, drama and suspense with every page building to an ending that you just don't want to miss.

Everyone will enjoy this novel...straight, gay, young or old. Although it can stand alone, I suggest reading Naked Hero - The journey Away first to get the full glory of this magnificent read.

Strictly speaking, this could be a stand alone novel BUT it shouldn't be.

The Journey Home picks up the story of Lewis Macleod journey to find the "Perfect Man" to fill the void left by the only other perfect man to have even been part his life.

We see the return of most of the characters from The Journey Away, if only for a little while.

Marie is a bit more heavy handed this time around but I forgive her.

This is a great read when paired with The Journey Away. The Journey Away is really needed to appreciate the story fulling.

Can't say enough good things.

J.K. Brighton has a fan.

A good sweet book. A lot of history that didnt seem necessary but made for interesting reading.
Glad that things were cleared up with the past.
Lewis ended up with the right man.

Gavin, Lewis' new potential boyfriend, is tediously stupid. It's a bit boorish after awhile. Still, a good story, well told.
