The night before her fifteenth birthday, Rosaline Clayton uncovers a deep family secret. She receives an amulet from her deranged father, and he tells her she must find the book in order to save him. Rosaline is used to her dad not making any sense, so she dismisses their conversation as another of his crazy rants.

When Rosaline’s brother, Elliot, drags her to their Nana’s attic to explore, they find the old leather-bound book tucked away in a chest. It sucks them into its pages, transporting them to a magical world. Along the way Rosaline and Elliot are separated, and the only thing she wants is to find her brother and go home.

The creatures of Immagica have other ideas. After years of war their land lies in ruin. Using the amulet’s power, they want Rosaline to defeat the dragon and restore Immagica to its former glory. But Rosaline is bound to Immagica in ways she doesn’t understand, and when she discovers the truth about her family, she must follow her heart to save them all.

Immagica surprised me. I read a lot of young adult speculative fiction, but it tends more toward the upper YA to new adult end of the spectrum. With this book’s main character, Rosaline, being fifteen, I thought maybe I’d be a little old for the story.

I should have remembered I loved Harry Potter back when he was a scruffy twelve-year-old. :)

I really enjoyed Immagica. It’s a little bit Alice in Wonderland, a little bit The Wizard of Oz, and a little bit The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Rosa and her brother are sucked through a magical book they discover in their Nana’s attic into a magical world. There they are separated, and Rosa must choose between rushing off to search for her brother and, well, saving the world.

The catch is that if she fails to save the world her brother will die too.

Immagica is populated with all sorts of fairytale creatures: gryphons, unicorns, dragons, wild girls, fairies… it could have very easily been cheesy or saccharine, but the creatures felt real. Especially the dragon, who was magnificently evil.

My favourite part of the story, though, is the Eye of Immagica, the centre of the magical world. It’s a little bit Steampunk, with its cogs and hi-tech surveillance. I just loved it.

It probably helps that it had a massive library and a cute boy.

One last thing. This is a very good example of self-publishing done right. It has a professionally designed cover (feast your eyes on that baby!) and professional editing. I’ve read very few self-published novels this well presented.

Immagica is high fantasy adventure with a sense of humour and some poignant moments. I give it four and a half stars.

Let’s start with the book cover… It’s vivid, Full of colour and imagination the girl on the front is the heroine of the tale, Rosaline, her fiery red hair, her bright green eyes, her emerald amulet and the book with its glowing pages evoke an image that the tale about to unfold is going to be a fantastic journey for the imagination.

The story begins on the Eve of Rosaline and her brother’s birthday ( no they are not twins there are 2 years between them) they are on their way to their Nana Clayton house, Clayton Manor… A sprawling mansion full of secrets…
Both children would rather be home celebrating with their friends but instead they have to spend it with their snobby cousins and distant relatives.

Things go from bad to worse at dinner, and after Rosaline loses her temper and tells her mum what she thinks ( I loved the narrative of that passage, especially the peppermint stick part )

After Rosaline and her brother are sent to their bedrooms, Rosaline stays behind and listens at the door… Hearing secrets that shock her to her core and leave her with many unanswered questions.

That night her dad gives her an early birthday present, an Amulet and at midnight she heads up to the attic with her brother who wanted to celebrate his 13th birthday as soon as it arrived, they discover another hidden treasure… The Book… These two items when placed together send Rosaline and her brother into the world of IMMAGICA… Where you will meet a variety of magical creatures.
The characters are well written, my favourite being Ira, the unicorn…who flys!

I could really see this as a movie, and if it did I’d go see it with my Grand kids.

This book reminds me of the Neverending Story, or the Narnia films (sorry but I actually found the original Narnia books boring) IMMAGICA is the type of story that let’s your imagination run wild. It will appeal to children and young adults and even those young at heart… As I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well done Ms Last, 5 stars.

This is the first book I have read by K A Last, but at the ending of this e-book is a preview of Fall For Me, book 1 of the Tate Chronicles which has peaked my interest so I am off to go find it and download to my Kindle. :D

I've loved books of K. A. Last I've already read, and I was eager to read this new one. From the first page I've found lively characters, who easily became real and alive to me. They made me curious to know more about them and their lives, what led them to this moment and what would happen to them now.

It was very easy to read. Story flowed like a stream of words. I was enjoying it. I enjoyed reading about the adventure of Rosaline, about her meeting new characters, dealing with challenges, getting to know more about the secrets of her family and the world of Immagica. I liked to see how she grows through her journey. As story went on tension builded up, and I was hurrying through the pages anxious to see what's next, what obstacles and dangers characters would have to face, how it would go. And when story got very tense, I was fidgeting in my seat.

I liked the world pictured in here. I enjoyed the idea of Immagica and adventures you can have in there. Actually, I would love to have one myself. This world reminded me a bit of The Neverending Story. After reading Immagica I think I should read that book again and all the other books mentioned in here. I'm always fascinated by the author's imagination and ability to create a new world.

Now, when this story is finished, I'm eager to know more about the future of the characters, more about their adventures yet to come.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal).

Can you say imagination? I am just excited after reading this book! This story is a winner all the way around. I mean I thought that the author hit a home run in Fall For Me but wow! This should be read by millions and made into a movie!

First of all there is the story. I was captivated and felt like I could have been reading C.S. Lewis or Jules Verne. I was amazed by world that was painted for me by the descriptive text in the book. The characters were well balanced and so real as well. I had no problems staying interested in this one at all.

I love the journey and the depth of emotion played out by our MC. Her family were a great mix to read and I loved the edge it had with dear old dad seeming utterly mad. I had a laugh and a cry as well! So that is a big plus for my emotional rollercoaster addiction. LOL I don't want to spoil it but Immagica holds some great characters too. This was an epic journey full on with fantasy creatures that make your imagination soar!

I recommend this one for fantasy lovers and Young Adult readers as well!!!

This is definitely a fun and exciting read! It may look like more suitable for younger readers, but it appeals to me just right. I love the characters, especially Ira, Brynn and Sebille. There may be some parts that lacks excitement, that I almost want to skip some pages. Also, it would have been much better if there is more character development between Lex and Rosaline. But overall, the plot and characters make up for those parts that is uneventful. I would highly recommend this to everyone who loves fantasy books. This is definitely worth reading!

Wow, I’m not even sure where to start this review. The story of Immagica is awesome beyond words!

Rosaline and her brother, Elliot, arrive at their Nana’s house with their parents to celebrate their birthday. They aren’t twins, but they do share the date (just like two of my kids!). They don’t seem particularly happy about having to spend their special day at their Nana’s house. We quickly learn that Rosaline’s mum is the type of person you don’t wish on your worst enemy and her dad is a bit off his rocker. I actually pictured her parents as the “other mother” and “other father” from Coraline. LOL. Things take a sharp turn during dinner the night before her birthday. After she blows up at her mother and storms away from the table, Rosaline learns a secret that flips her world upside down. As if one giant family secret isn’t enough, her dad comes to her room later that same evening with a cryptic message and an amulet and tells her she must save him. Huh? Rosaline thinks another screw has been knocked loose in that wonky head of his, but after she and Elliot find the book in Nana’s attic and are swept away to Immagica, she wonders if she’s as crazy as her dear old dad or if she really is inside this magical land. And where the heck did Elliot go?!?

As wonderstruck as I was after viewing the map of Immagica, it’s got nothing on the descriptive power of the authors words. I was transported to the magical world of Immagica right along side Rosaline. I could see the miles of wasteland when we first arrived in The Barren Lands, I could hear Ira’s voice in my own head, I could almost feel the friction between Rosaline and Brynn, I chuckled with Sebille and Orin, I even teared up a bit, but I’m not going to get into details about that. These characters take the reader on a thrilling journey that you’ll want to revisit again and again. It’s the kind of tale that has your heart racing and your fist-pumping the air. Immagica isn’t just a story, it’s an adventure filled with excitement and magic, friendship and foes, mystical creatures and lands that my words can’t adequately describe to you. It’s an endeavor you must experience for yourself and I highly recommend that you do. Immagica has definitely made my “Favorite Reads of 2014″ list!

Immagica

I received a free copy, through LoP, in exchange for a review.

Birthdays are hard enough, but when it's both your birthday and that of your brother & your family is a little left of center, then it's a whole different experience. Rosaline & her brother Elliot are at a turning point in their lives, not just because it is their birthdays, but they both uncover a deeply, hidden family secret. A secret so huge, that they cannot believe that it true. There is a whole other world, that they are destined to save. When they get transported to this place, they get separated and Rosaline's agenda is to find her brother, not meet the creatures of this universe and help them restore it to it's glory. But, along the way, she starts to understand why she is here and what she needs to do, in order to save Immagica and everything in it.

'Brynn sighed. “Never mind about that now. You may want to find your brother, but your dad is right, you're here for another reason. That amulet goes to the firstborn child on the day they turn fifteen. Immagica is your responsibility. You have magic in your blood, whether you like it or not.”

I got this book, since I thought this would be a fun book to read with my seven year old daughter. Boy was I right on. Adventure, mythical creatures, the ultimate journey is held in this book. My daughter was so excited by it, that I was reading her a few chapters at night, not the one I was planning on. It was well written and obviously had a great story line. Thank you for such a fun experience!

***This book was reviewed for Reader's Favourite***

Immagica, by KA Last, is a story all of a piece with those such as Alice in Wonderland, The Chronicles of Narnia, Inkheart, The Neverending Story, and Labyrinth. It is the story of Rosaline, a young girl whose family houses secrets unimaginable, both dark and light-hearted.

On her fifteenth birthday, Rosaline learns she has an uncle she never knew about, she’s not who she thinks she is, and her family is guardian to a wondrous realm known as Immagica. It’s in danger of disappearing, and it's up to Rosaline to set things right.

For her birthday, her father gives her an amulet, a family heirloom, and tells her it is her birthright. He also tells her she must find ‘the book’, hidden in her grandmother's attic. She and her brother Elliot find the book and get drawn into Immagica, though at different places.

Searching for her brother, Rosaline meets a variety of beings, from unicorns and gryphons to dragons and fairies. The hunt for Elliot becomes the quest to save Immagica itself. More family secrets come to light, and Rosaline is faced with some hard choices.

I loved the cover. The artwork was beautiful, and it fit the story. Nothing is quite as disgruntling as a book cover that doesn't match the book. The chapter headings were creative as well.

Though it may be a play on a familiar theme, Last does a wonderful job of breathing fresh life into it, and weaving Rosaline’s story. If you like books such as the ones mentioned at the beginning, then you are sure to fall in love with the beauty of Immagica.

I was gifted an ebook copy from the author in return for an honest review.

The last thing Rosaline Clayton expects for her birthday is a strange amulet from her crazy father, which transports her and her brother Elior into a world where imagination something can make it real. However, Elior is missing... and Rosaline is sent on a quest not only to find him, but to stop Immagica from being destroyed by a hate-filled dragon. Nothing makes sense... but anything is possible.

Immagica is a tale of adventure that strongly reminded me of The Neverending Story (I’ve only seen the movie), but in a good way. It is a world of seemingly random magic whereby wishing for something can make it happen. It’s different than the usual YA fantasy that I read. There is never a dull moment—the story moved well and I sped right through it.

The characters were a delight. I quite liked Ira, the unicorn, and Rosaline is an easy character to side with. My only critique is that I felt there could have been more character growth/development, especially between Lex and Rosaline, but it was an otherwise delightful, light-hearted tale. That being said, this is definitely K. A. Last’s strongest book yet and my favourite that she has published. It is easy to see the love she has poured into this tale.

And, the course, the cover is stunning. 4.5 stars.

I am glad a requested this from the author to review. I quite enjoyed this book.

The story was cute and the characters had good development throughout the book, as did the relationships that were formed between them. It was pretty easy to connect to the characters and like all of them, even the evil ones. It was nice to be able to connect with characters so easily.

It was also filled with good life lessons, such as love others, ladies shouldn't swear and have an imagination.

I would have liked to have had a setting for where the book was set (or even what country it was), other than her grandmother's home and Immagica. The only reason being, they had different terms that what American's use, so I think it was in either Australia or the United Kingdom, but it would be nice to know for sure.

The only thing I can really criticize is the fact that that age group that the storyline reaches out to is very different to the character's age (15) and commentary, they do not really connect. It read more like a middle grade/late elementary read, rather than a YA read. Not that I am complaining exactly, I love me some Percy Jackson.

Overall, I liked this book. It was well written and a good story. I hope there is a sequel, I want to know how Rosaline's story continues!

I received a copy of this book from LoP in place f an honest review.

This is a great YA fantasy read. There are so many things happening in this book. You get to see a world of make believe with with magical creatures.

Rosaline and Elliot Clayton are brother and sister and share the same birthday. The only thing is, is they aren't twins. You get to see how their parents and how they interact with their children. The mom reminded me of a wicked witch and the father was like the nutty professor. To say that this birthday will forever change their lives is putting it mildly.

They are at their Nana's sharing their birthdays and Rosaline's father gives here an amulet and she doesn't understand. When they are in the attic they find this book not knowing that the amulet is the key to opening up a new world.

I really enjoyed this world and everything that I found out. I wanted to see if this book was as good as it was described and it was even better. I don't usually read many books like this but I have to say that I'm glad I took the time for this one.

Upon the eve of her 15th birthday Rosaline Clayton received a surprise gift from her father, it was an amulet that holds the key to the world of Immagica. Thus starts Rosaline’s journey to the highly imaginative world that was created by her family generations ago. From the very beginning K.A. Last struck me as a vividly descriptive writer. The real everyday world and Immagica were both well formed and easy to follow,The story was cleverly creative and full of imagination. At times scenes in Immagica were more of a childish and at others they seem to be startling adult. I believe this to be expected in a older children’s story though. I would compare this as a Hobbit for kids type of story and it’s one that I’m certainly excited to share with my two daughters. I am eagerly anticipating book 2. I loved Immagica! It took me back to the days when Narnia and the wardrobe held endless possibilities of wonder and excitement.

While this book is aimed at a slightly younger audience than Last's previous works (Fall For Me, Sacrifice) I really think she captured the enthusiasm and determination of the audience.

Immagica tells the story of Rosaline, a teen girl who has to save her brother when he disappears to a world long-connected to his family: the world of Immagica. What happens next is a whirlwind of action and adventure, bound to have readers of this genre and age group captivated.

I give Immagica five stars.

This really is a thoroughly enjoyable book. I was given a free copy of the book via Lovers of Paranormal, in exchange for an honest review. To be honest though I wouldn't have felt at all disappointed if I had paid for a copy.

It hit the spot in terms of magical creatures and folk - all of which are so well written that they seemed completely real. I loved Ira, the Unicorn, and the dragon was wonderfully described - and, to me at least, was just how I would imagine it to be!

It will certainly appeal to young adult readers, and also those (like myself) who are considerably older but still enjoy well written fantasy/ fairy tales.

It is definitely a book worth reading - and it would be a brilliant book to read to any younger children at bedtime.

I am ten and I loved Immagica.

It is an exciting book that I found very hard to stop reading. From the fairy glades to the barren lands to the north tower, the world is full of imagination. Immagica reminded me of reading the Chronicles of Narnia and Alice in Wonderland.

Ira is the most beautiful creature and I loved him so much. Brynn is a strong willed character. It's a good book and I really loved it.

K.A Last wrote a book that I will read again and again.

Roasline is a reader who loves escaping into Narnia, OZ, Neverland, Wonderland and more with her favorite characters. On her 15th birthday, she suddenly comes into a birthright that sends her and her younger brother on an adventure of their own. Being a modern girl, of course the first thing she did was to check her mobile. This story is non-stop action from the beginning. Full of excitement, magical creatures, danger and plenty of imagination. It was reminiscent of Sharkboy and Lavagirl or Inkheart in that not only was she thrown into this magical imagination fueled world, but she had a measure of control that she had to learn how to use.

I think this book would be most enjoyed by middle grade readers. There is a bit of violence and flirting but nothing graphic and the language stays clean. Lots of family drama and secrets but heavy foreshadowing which makes it a bit predictable for older readers. The antagonist could have been written in an ambiguous way, but is not which make the resolution comfortable for younger readers but a bit dissatisfying more sophisticated readers. It is a fun, sweet, innocent read.

This book is a standalone with a definitive ending, but the door is left open for further adventures in Immagica.

Beautiful, magical story. Would make a great movie. Rosaline and her younger brother are having a birthday but instead of being at home with friends they have to go their grandmother’s house. But during their dinner their mother as usual is demanding and distant, and her father is his usual ditsy otherworldly self. Rosaline blows up and tells off her parents, and when she and Elliott are dismissed she listens at the closed door, and hears secrets she’s now sure she understands or believes. Later when her dad gives her an amulet and tells her it is the way to a secret magical world, she embarks on a journey of discovery about herself, her roots, and what she needs to do to save her family and Immagica, a beautiful magical world where anything is possible . Total adventure for a girl and her brother, who disappear into another land via a book they find. Things start to make sense when they find out more about the history of the land and all the magical and mystical creatures. The siblings get separated and she must correct the issues at hand to free the land and save her brother or all will perish. The dragon at the center of it all is a great opponent and all the creatures compliment the story well. The locale is well developed and the story blends nicely. Tension flares from all directions which keeps you on the edge of your seat. Now on to read more from this author.

Rosaline and her brother Elliot are dreading going to their grandmothers for their birthday. They love her but think they will be bored around a lot of relatives they don't really know. Things are heating up as at dinner an argument ensues and Rosa hears things that hurt and she doesn't understand. When her dad gives her an amulet and tells her to find a book; her life is changed forever! This book is similar to "The Neverending Story". It is cute and full of excitement and danger. This is an adventure of a lifetime. Love it and hope their is more because it left some unanswered questions.

A beautiful written story that I just devoured. K.A Last kept me hooked from beginning to end. Rosaline was expecting a boring birthday stuck with relatives but the night before her birthday her whole life changes. When she's given the key to a magical land Immagica, which is also task with saving. Her brother is also sucked into Immagica with her but they get separated. Can Rosaline find her brother in time before the Dragon destroyed everything. As with most things in Immagica things are not what they seem and that could be the key to saving everyone

A coming of age story, reminiscent of Narnia, but with a modern twist. With characters that you fall in love with, that you want to see where the rest of the story takes them. A book that’s hard to put down. Good for ages 8 to 80. Can’t wait for another story to come to life in the land of “Immagica “.
