New Adult Contemporary Romance

Twenty-year-old Maddie has had a crush on Colin, her studly internship supervisor, for three long months. She struggles focusing on her work, and always finds herself gazing at his wavy brown hair, his chiseled cheekbones, his kissable lips. Little does she know, however, that he has feelings for her, too.

The problem is no matter how much time they spend together in the office, neither one can ever make the first move.

That is, until they both step into the old, rickety elevator late one Friday night.

And things start to get a little steamy...

This was just...not at all what I expected. The title, the cover, and the length of this novella length story gave me the impression of a short yet hot little ditty. I expected a couple who's been secretly lusting after each other for months who get stuck in an elevator and finally act on their desires, opening the doors to a possible future relationship.

But what this story told was definitely non-sexy, awkward as heck and had a very juvenile feel. Colin and Maddie are most definitely uncomfortable around each other. They do spend nearly the intire book getting to know the mundane details about each other, but since they already profess to 'love' the other (albeit in their own heads) then the getting to know each other seems pointless.

The point of view was beyond distracting. At first, I thought that the narrative wasn't even going to state their names, what with all of the "he did this" and "she said that". When the point of view switches to bouncing between Colin and Maddie, it was a definite improvement, but the lack of editing was most definitely still a major distraction. There was a lot to notice, and although a few mistakes aren't enough for me to mention, this one was fairly riddled.

I think the story could be a fun one, but execution was awkward at best. The abrupt and directionless ending could have been cute, had I been more invested in the characters.

Now that my exams are over it's time to get back on reviewing..
This book was not good.. Not at all..

It actually leads my frustration to another limit, even thinking what an awful female character Maddie is.. She is not cynical nor witty as she tries pretty hard to appear but bitter and abnoxious.. Insensitive and her thoughts full on stereotypes. She seems judgemental and i didn't like the way she acted about Anna..

Even the friendly bantrer with Daniela -her best friend- is forced and awkward.. And all this before she even gets on that freaking elevator and starts to scream erratically while acting like spiderman..

That poor guy Colin was better but a bit pathetic also.. He has at least a sad story so i get his POV more..

But the worst part was the insta-love.. They could have said "i am in love" but noooo for them it was straight to "i love him\her". They have no idea who the other one is and they throw words like love all over the place so easily..

It was so childish and boring, with a strained storyline and amateur writing style, some typos and grammatical errors and a daft back and forth romance..

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- You think because of the cover, title and description, that there will be a steamy factor but there is none of that..
- Needs editig..
- I was so sorry about what happened to Colin.. and i 'm happy that he finally moves on with his life..
- Maddie is the female equivalent of a jerk..
- Daniela was an ok character..

OMG, where do I begin???
I am all for new adult books, but just because it is new adult doesn't mean every other word needs to be F**k in some shape or form. I am not one of those people who shun cussing. The cussing just seemed like fillers when the author didnt know any other word to use. Def wasnt needed SO much. The character is 20 not 16. I seriously thought I was reading about a 16 yr. old most of the time. The heroine is def. annoying enough I wanted to punch her!

Early in the book we see Daniella getting mad at the construction workers because they have a job to do and they start early. she is yelling at them telling them she will shoot them. seriously??? Thats how an immature person speaks. Maddie is talking to herself in her head saying she wants to kill them. Seriously??? Way too dramatic for me and just not necessary. This whole book is awkward and filled with juvenille talk.

Maddie was SO unlikeable. Like unbearably unlikeable. She was rude and overreacted and just not what I was hoping for from a 20 yr. old who lived on her own and was an intern trying to make her way up. There is a scene when they are caught in an elevator (they being her and her crush Colin) and she is just downright mean to him and yells at him. Seriously?!?!?!?! Not the way to impress the guy you like. I just didn't go on any further. Was not impressed at all.

I didn't like how the book jumped between them but still in 3rd person at times sometimes in first person. I am also big on editing, and this book had A lot of errors.

I don't recommend but again that is my opinion alone.

Elevator Heat is a quick "romance" who let you think there will be some steamy scenes between the main characters: Maddie and Colin. Unfortunately, the cover (while beautiful) can lead you to confusion because except for a make-out session or two, there isn't much more. There were always something who stopped them but in the end it's up to you to imagine it. Also the fact that they're supposed to be already in love with each other without even knowing or talking a little was weird when you think about it. The storyline or lack of it was kind of expected since it's a short story.

It was short and can be nice for some people I guess if you don't have a lot of time to spend reading, but don't expect too much.

No. Just no. I don't think I've ever liked a book less. The only reason I didn't flounce this is cause I got it as an ARC and I kept waiting for the romance to happen.

From the title and cover, I expected a hot sexy little thing in the elevator. What I got was two people yelling at each other and having panic attacks. Any time they came close to acting on their crush for each other, they'd turn away and do something else. And the end? No.

This was a new author to me,so I am willing to give her another try.

Nope. No. Nuh uh.

I’m not even sure where to begin...
I guess the prologue is a good place. It was unnecessary. I’m assuming it was a prologue, anyway. Then we have these random chapters with odd time jumps that aren’t labeled...
Finally - 30% (or so) of the way in - we’re trapped in the elevator with the world’s most annoying woman and a clueless man.

Maddie is NOT appealing at all. She’s irritating. How could Colin possibly be in love with her when HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW HER! Love and lust are two very different things, peeps. Stop with the “I love her” crap. You don’t know her, and you’re still hung up on someone else, dude. You just like looking at her from across the office.

The book is titled ELEVATOR HEAT. There was no heat at all. At. All. Until the last 2% of the book, and by that time I was so tired of the damn story, I didn’t even want to read it.

There were inconsistencies galore. I’m fairly certain we’re told Maddie tries to call her mom and then she reveals her mom died when she was younger. Erm... If she has a hotline to heaven, share that number, otherwise, no.

The whole you Anna thing... Listen, you don’t have to stop loving your dead girlfriend. You do, however, need to learn to move past the guilt and live your damn life, Colin!

I kinda wish I DNF-ed this one. It had potential, but unfortunately fell flat. Very flat. Super flat.

I received this ebook via Netgalley for an honest review.

The premise sounded good, but in fact I’m quite disappointed. I don’t like writing such a review, but even if the author is skilled enough to write, I didn’t connect with the story and the characters. Moreover, it’s more a novella than a novel, which got me confused for a second with how the plot was unfolding.

Don’t get me wrong, the author is not a bad writer even if my rating could make you think it. It’s just the plot, the narration and the characters that bored me most of the time. I finished this book in an hour and a half and the first thought I had when I closed my kindle app was “meh”.

There are everything to make this story thrilling from a frown upon attraction, two people locked in an elevator at night to an undeniable attraction, but it didn’t work for me.

First, the prologue of some sort put me off and I almost stopped reading. The POV was difficult and not very agreable. When you start a story, it’s better to be sucked into it and here it’s not what happened. But when the actual story started it was better and I really enjoyed it even.

Unfortunately, when I saw that the story was told in dual POV, I was slightly afraid that it’d be repetitive. And to be honest, it is a little repetitive. For example, when both characters are in the elevator some things are ‘re-told’ from the other character POV. The author could have made it way more thrilling funny or emotional than that. I don’t see the full potential of the plot and characters in display and it’s frustrating.

Also, since we don’t have much of a background for the two characters and how they behaved for months working together, I couldn’t believe in their feelings. Attraction, yes, feelings, not so much.

Maybe you won’t feel the same way, maybe I’m not the right reader for this story, but I’m really disappointed…

If you’re looking for a fast and quite light story to read over break, maybe you should try this one out. Maybe.

I’m sorry if my review is harsh, but I can’t truly say that I enjoyed reading this story. It’s quite hard to rate it as I hate rating a book low, but it’s barely reaching average for me. Sorry.

I freaking love the cover of this book! #BookCoverJudger (I'm working on it...) The book was cute. I liked the premise and actually enjoyed the poor characters being stuck in an elevator. Come on, think of how horrible it must be to get stuck in an elevator. Now, what would you do if you were stuck in an elevator with the hottie you've been lusting after at work!?

Unfortunately, this book fell short for me and I'm sad it did. I was expecting a really sexy read. Ok, I"ll just say it... I was expecting really hot elevator sex. With that being said, it was a quick fun read but I was left wanting more. I feel like if the story were longer, there could've been more character development so that there would be actual depth to the characters.

Also, something that was kind of annoying was how repetitive it was due to the dual POV's. It was also quite confusing which made reading the book a little frustrating. UGH if only this were a full length novel as opposed to a Novella! That would've helped us connect to the character and would've made quite the difference.

Would I recommend this for purchase? Maybe. I personally wouldn't read this again.

If you have read any of my previous reviews, you may have come across one that I did for Rowe’s Crashing Into You. I will admit it was not a glowing review in the slightest, but it is truly how I felt about that story. I requested this via NetGalley without realizing that it was the same author and I am glad I was unaware, as I probably would have skipped over this title had I known. My second venture into Rowe’s writing was much more pleasant than the first and I am glad I got to give it another chance.

Elevator Heat was a lighthearted, less steamy than I would have liked but fun all the same, read. I enjoyed both of the main characters; they had some pretty good chemistry and were not annoying in the slightest. Some of the scenes were funny and I found myself laughing, but in the best way. One thing I have some to realize is that the Rowe uses car accidents quite a lot in both the works already published. I don’t know why this is, but I can see it getting a bit old if it continues.

Overall, reading Elevator Heat was enjoyable. I sort of with that this was the full length novel and not Crashing Into You. I would have loved to see this story fleshed out a bit and I think it had some great potential to go somewhere.

Elevator Heat was not what I was expecting.

I couldn't really get into it. The only reason why I finished this book, is because I actually wanted to know what was going to happen to the characters. While I didn't like it very much, it did keep my attention.

I didn't like how the book went back and forth through the two main characters point of view. They just kept repeating everything, but from each characters point of view. It would have been much better if it was just from one point of view, or if each point of view explained something different.

I think the title of this book is very misleading. The book is called Elevator Heat, but they didn't do anything until the end of the book. The entire time they were stuck in the elevator, they only talked. Yes, every book has to start somewhere, but this book just got worse and worse for me.

I thought it wasn't very realistic. The two characters were in love with each other, but they barely said ten words to each other. Okay maybe it was love at first sight, but there was nothing in the book that led to that.

Over all I really couldn't get into this book. The title and the description is what hooked me, but the book itself did not follow through.

Maddie has had a crush on Colin since the day she met him when she started her internship. Colin has been crushing on Maddie since the day he first saw her but both are stubborn and refuse to take the first step. That is until they are trapped in an elevator together for several hours and forced to confront everything.

I saw the cover for this book and thought, wow this one is going to be hot! That's what I get for judging a book by its cover. This is a short, very quick read with a lot of potential. It has a good foundation, but it doesn't really ever get off the ground. And the heat I was hoping for? There is none.

My thoughts:

Character development: 2.5
Level of Romance between characters: 3
Passion/Heat level: 2(there is some sexual tension and a couple of kisses, but they never actually have sex.)
Angst/Heartbreak: 3(Colin has some demons holding him back)
Cliffhanger?: Hmmmm...well, it just kind of ends. Not sure if there is another book planned or if this is just it.

Overall I think this one had great potential and had it been a little longer and the characters a little more developed, this could have been great.

See more of my reviews on my blog Thoughts At One In The Morning.

For a book that should have a decent amount of heat, it really fell flat for me. It was an interesting story line, one that could have played out with a little more intrigue. You can tell that Maddie and Colin have an attraction, I can vouch for that. The whole elevator situation though, that was just ridiculous. When it first started, I said, "Okay, here we go!" thinking I was in for some true romantic tension that would lead to something steamy. Not so much. Maddie kept freaking out and I kept shaking my head.

Also, I don't know what was going on with the way the story was told. It kept bouncing back and forth and being told from different perspectives. I honestly got lost way too many times and hoped that it would just start flowing eventually. All I know is it just ended abruptly, right when the "heat" was about to start. And for a book with the title Elevator Heat, you would expect some HEAT for crying out loud. So, I'm sorry. This just didn't keep my interest.

My Rating: It's Okay

ARC copy provided by Netgalley for an honest review.......

I am pretty much going to say the exact same thing that most of the other reviewers have. Based on the title and cover, I expected one thing and got something totally different.

Maddie is working as an intern for a casting agent. Colin is a paid assistant for the casting agent. These 2 don't talk about eachother except when Colin gives Maddie assignments. They each secretly want more from the relationship and call it love. I'm not even sure how 25 year old Colin could even refer to this strange non-relationship with Maddie as love when his last girlfriend of 4 years die tragically in an accident 2 years ago. Regardless, the day before Maddie's last day as an intern, the couple gets stuck in the elevator at night for 3 1/2 hours. 3 1/2 hours. Yes, 3 1/2 hours of awkward panick. There were so many opportunities for these 2 to talk and/or act out their feelings, but it wasn't until the last 2 minutes that anything at all happened.

I'm giving it 3 stars because it was a cute, sweet and easy read. It did feel very juvinile, but I am glad that both perspectives were given.

I received this novella from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

I had really high expectations for this book, considering the cover and blurb were fantastic, so I think that is why I have been particularly hard on this title. Overall, it was disappointing.

At first glance, I thought Elevator Heat by B.D. Rowe was going to be a 'spicy' novella, the perfect book vacation for the start of bitter-cold January. The story line wasn't anything new BUT it seemed like it could have been really interesting. For a novella, the scenes were very slow moving...Maddie and Colin are very flat, and characters, and the scenes where they are outside of the office tend to drag. I definitely think they focus should have been more on what happened during the day at the talent agency, not court dates for Colin, and what Daniela had for breakfast.

If this piece were expanded to a novel sized story, the characters more dynamic, and the relationship built up a little more, I believe it could have been a great story.

Thank you to B.D. Rowe and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

I was willing to give B.D. Rowe another try, but I was again disappointed. Elevator Heat was like a reading a slow train wreck, about two awkwardly shy people with no social skills, falling in love with out specking more than one or two words to each other. They also happen to get stuck in an elevator together. Did anything happen in the elevator, no just over the top freaking out and one kiss. The title of this book is misleading. There is no heat, not even a little warmth, just a really wired ending, that wasn’t really an ending.

No plot or storyline, No Character growth or Building, No attraction between the characters and one character who cusses like a sailor (not cute).

I like when a writer switches points of view, but not in the middle of a paragraph. It is very confusing and I was lost some of the time reading this.

I am giving this book a one star and will not be asking anyone to read this book.

Thank you NetGalley.

I liked this book, I really did, but... I would be lying if I were to say that it was 100% pitch perfect (which it definitely wasn't).

While reading the book, I could see where the author was going with the POV's, but it seemed as if the flow of the storyline was thrown off with the POV's. Also, it seemed as if the characters were on their way to becoming fully realized, but with a story this short, there weren't enough pages to allow that to happen.

Other than that, I liked the way that the author allowed the reader to see the relationship/infatuation unfold between 2 broken people in need of one another.

Although the ending left something to be desired, it was a decent book, but it needs to broken down and put back together, piece by piece.

Giving this one: 2.5 stars.

Well, where to start...first, Elevator Heat took about 40 minutes to read. I recieved the copy from Netgalley for my honest review. For some reason I have this strange pull towards books based in elevators so I read this right away. It wasnt quite as good as I hoped. The writing was ok but at times a bit confusing. It switches back and forth between the two main characters Colin and Maddie and was told in a third person POV, then they would say things in a first person POV, little bit confusing.

For such a short read it did keep me going through the entire book but it was just a bit off. The characters would have these weird freak out moments and then BAM fine again. IDK just weird. This is an OK read for something quick so I give it a 3 stars.

I don't quite know what to say.... This isn't romantic, but it was at times very funny. The two leads are awkward as hell, and if that was what the author was going for, then Rowe delivered. There's nothing sexy about it either because like I said, their interaction felt very awkward. These two don't act like they're in their twenties. They acted like they were tweens who fell in love with each other because of "oh, how pretty/handsome!". Just made me roll my eyes. I could easily forgive all of that if their final get together had any chemistry at all. But honestly, she had more chemistry with her roommate.

I would have given it one star, but added another because of the laughs (intended or not) it provided.

Another case of cover love hit me when I saw this book. I loved the steamy cover. I liked the summary of the story. I loathed the story itself.

This book could have been good. For short stories, elevator sex can be a great chance to write some sexy scenes while telling quick story. What we get with Elevator Heat though is a big mess. We get the quick read in first person, third person and everything in between. I started to get a headache just trying to remember whose head we were in when we actually werent in someones head. Confused? Well so was I. It lacked editing and had serious repetitiveness with words.

After about 2/3 of the book I gave up. I just couldn’t bring myself to finish a story that lacked connection from the characters.

Really, where should I begin with this? It was just so bad. I'm sorry, it truly was. The only good thing about this story was the cover and blurb. This was definitely a case of judging a book by it's cover.

Maddie and Colin are very flat characters. There's nothing likable about either. She is just boring and he seems to border on alcoholism. Who brings a flask with them to work if you're not trying to sneak a drink?

The writing was not good either. The back and worth of the POV was not working for this at all. A lot of it was the same thing written from different POVs and you had a hard time keep track of whose POV it was. Then there's the different tenses throughout the whole thing. It just gets to be overwhelming and does not work.

I was expecting more to the plot because of the title Elevator Heat wherein Maddie and Colin's feelings for each other couldn't be held back anymore and it just so happened that sparks flew when they were trapped in the elevator.

The beginning was confusing because of the perspectives and there was no time frame. One minute it was in the present and the next it was in the past. When her and Colin were stuck in the elevator her reactions tend to be over the top.

It was a very quick read and I wanted more character development. The ending felt lacking and I thought, "that's it?".

I think this would have been better written if there was more character development and the flow of the story but the plot was interesting enough.

I received an arc via netgalley.

3.5 stars....cute quick read. Had some typos and word structure issues. But overall a fairly cute story. Reminded me a little of Hearts in Darkness.

When Maddie and Colin get stuck in an elevator together on a friday night, they are forced to comfort one another and keep a level head about themselves, until they are rescued. What they didn't plan on was letting each other know just how they felt. Will they both be able to get their feelings for one another out and will they be able to find happiness after all the craziness of being trapped together is over? Check out this short, quick read.

Should this short story come to me with another title and another cover, I might even like it, but I was expecting something more mature, hotter and sexier than what I found.

The MCs are in the twenties and already in the working world, but act like teenagers in high school without a high school. This is supposed to be "new adult", because the MCs are older, but it had such a juvenile feeling around it that I could believe anything about them (not even his tragic story).

It was a disappointment because it didn't deliver according to the expectations. Change cover and title for something more accurate to the content and it might be an acceptable piece.

Not much I can say about this one, unfortunately.

The dialogue is clunky and jarring. The characters are impossible to like, not least because their inner thoughts are so cringe-inducing. Aside from their overblown feelings of love (considering they've said two words to one another), Maddie's complete overreaction at the prospect of being trapped in an elevator and ridiculous attempts to escape were so irritating that I felt sorry for the poor guy stuck in there with her.

Clearly the author was going for a hot, sexy novella but instead it's awkward and juvenile. For characters who are meant to be in their twenties Maddie and Colin read more like fifteen year olds. Not for me.

This book should really be a short story but it's too long for that. I also don't know if I'd classify it as new adult. The title and the cover are misleading because it looks like a steamy romance when it's more of an office flirtation. It's not horrible but it's kinda silly how these people declare their love after having only one real conversation with each other. The way that every time they were going to ask each other out or try to kiss it got interrupted was pretty cliché too. I'll still give it a three though because it kept me entertained for a minute. So I don't know what to say anything more than : crush, shy, moving on, elevator and elevator.
This story could be more interesting but since it was short I felt it was not that intense. there was a plot, I was happy that there was more about the man character.
What I didn't like was the beginning with the girl and the boy. could be better with she and he to keep the mystery. and the ending was for like what. okay. I got it. the purpose of being together but for me it was just what just like that.

So I gave up at exactly 30%, typically I can push through all the way to the end of a chapter, but there's no way I was going to read another page, let alone ten more pages of this book. The characters in this book are so boring and one dimensional. I mean really they're Facebook stalking one another, they hardly talk directly to another at work, and he has to call in emergency therapy session just to discuss her; lame. This is the second and will most definitely be the last book I'll be reading from this author. Thank God this was free.

I appreciate reading a New Adult romance might mean the characters are a bit younger than I'm used to and therefore slightly less mature but I do not think it means that characters have to speak and act like they twelve years-old.

This book was just generally all around poor. The only saving grace was that it was so short.

I can't tell you how ridiculous this story was. I really have to think about what I want to say about this one. I'm so disappointed. Had the potential to be a good short story but turned out to be bad. So bad. One dimensional characters; no plot; repetitive phrases that made you question your sanity. And the slight flavor of fan fiction made me wrinkle up my nose. I wrote a story like this a couple years ago, so yeah.
