Detective Alex Cross is pulled out of a family celebration and given the devastating news that his niece, Caroline, has been found brutally murdered. Cross vows to hunt down the killer, and soon learns that Caroline was mixed up in one of Washington's wildest scenes. And she was not this killer's only victim.
The search leads Cross to a place where every fantasy is possible, if you have the credentials to get in. Alex is soon facing down some very important, very protected, very dangerous people in levels of society where only one thing is certain - they will do anything to keep their secrets safe.
Cross Fire
Detective Alex Cross is planning his wedding to the woman he loves, Brianna Stone. But this blissful existence begins to unravel when Cross is called to the scene of the perfectly executed assassination of two of Washington DC's most corrupt and publically hated political figures. As more crooked politicians are picked off with similar long-range shots, public opinion is divided - is the marksman a vigilante or a hero?
Media coverage of the case explodes, and the FBI assigns agent Max Siegel to the investigation. As Cross and Siegel battle over jurisdiction, Alex receives a call from his deadliest adversary, Kyle Craig. The Mastermind is in DC and will not stop until he has eliminated Cross, and his family, for good.

I love the actual detective work and suspense of the Alex Cross novels. However, as soon as he goes home... I just jump to the next section. The private aspects are overdramatic, over romantic, garbage. Without that, it would rate a 4...
Another great story from The Cross collection. You feel as though you know all the family. So many twists and tournament me wanting more. Patterson best at what he does fact!
I gave this book 4 stars purely because I was hooked and couldn't wait to carry on reading.
I also liked the short chapters when I didn't have as much time to sit down and read I could read for a few minutes and still make progress
I like it that it features Cross's private life and how it entwines with the ongoing investigation.
The investigation however is somewhat lacking... Cross doesn't do much of it! Others feed stuff to him and his partner is quite silent and is always first on scene. I'd like more investigation and Cross's partner to have a voice then I'd rate 5 stars
