I won this as a first reads from Goodreads....I'm a hugh fan of Housewives of New Jersey and especially Kathy Wakile...every time I would watch the show and they would feature her delicious looking desserts, I always wished I could taste them....well my dream came true...loved the lay out of the book, divided into the four seasons....the first recipe I tried was the classic tiramisu and it was easy to follow as well as delicious. ..cannot wait to try all the desserts....great book
I liked this cookbook. One of its main attractions, to me, is that it presents a lot of small individual desserts and dishes, so cupcakes instead of cakes, Babycakes instead of cakes, tarlets instead of tarts. I found this appealing. The recipes are mostly doable in the home and require no undue fancy ingredients or techniques.
This was ok for a dessert cook book, almost all of the recipes were quite long and for me personally a bit complicated . I also wish there would have been more pictures of the desserts it seemed half of the recipes didn't have pics....
I won Indulge: Delicious Little Desserts That Keep Life Real Sweet by Kathy Wakile from Goodreads. Indulge is a wonderful cookbook. I loved everything about it: the size, the layout, the photos, the recipes, the advice, and Kathy's personal stories. Having married into an Italian family, I related to many of Kathy's memories about her family and cooking as they remind me of stories told by my husband's family. I feel these vignettes truly added to the cookbook. The book is divided into seasonal units, their broken down into recipe groups featuring the "stars" of each season such as apples and pumpkins in the fall, gelato and ice-based delights in the summer. Many home cooks will appreciate the section entitled "Basics" wherein many standards of baking are simply explained. I especially appreciate the single page entitled "Sweet Salvation - Quick Fixes and Finesses.". Talk about offering a dollop of confidence! All recipes focus on preparing these wonderful desserts in small portions so that one may indulge just a bit or try a bit of several. Kathy's recipes and advice make me believe that I can successfully create every single delicacy. The entire cookbook makes me want to invite over friends and start baking, and then Indulge!
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for my honest opinion. First, I have a confession to make...I am not a baker. Not a good one, anyway. I've brought cakes in to company potlucks that have gone untouched..but every Christmas I get nostalgic for the Italian cookies and delicious pastries I enjoyed while living in NY. So I was anxious and excited at the same time when this book arrived at my doorstep. I must note I am also a RHONJ fan, and Kathy's family is one of my favorites on that show.
Filled to the brim with gorgeous pictures, wonderful narration, and many "I really think I can do this" kind of recipes..I can't wait to try my hand at baking..and I may not wait for Christmas.
Indulge invites you into Wakile's family where you are welcomed into her kitchen. The pages are beautifully designed with vibrant colors and patterns. The format of listing recipes by season was an unexpected surprise. Very smart for using seasonal fruits and delicacies. I was practically drooling over the pictures of the finished products and had the urge to go to the farmer's market and start baking right away. I will be a happy woman when the Petit-Pumpkin Pies with Toasted Marshmallow Topping come out of my oven and that's just the beginning of the tasty and relatively easy dishes in Indulge.
I think this book would make an excellent gift or to tuck into your own collection. Each season just got yummier.
I won this book via Goodreads first reads giveaway! I love this book! The pages are filled with personal stories about the desserts and bring them to life. They are grouped together by seasons, and I absolutely like that. I am able to utilize ingredients I love each season. Cannot wait to make so many of these desserts.
