Bob Devine provided some great insight into every corner of the state. I have a new appreciation for the hard work and grit that Alaska was built on, and a new list of hikes and places to visit!

A BEAUTIFUL book! Full of pics AND text. Great coffee table book that is chock full of information. I love the maps that are included with each section. The book sections divide Alaska into eight geographical areas: Southeast, South Central, Anchorage & Mat-Su, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska Peninsula & Aleutian Islands, Western Alaska, Interior Alaska and The Far North. This book is great for learning the lay of the land in Alaska and for understanding the big picture about Alaska. For that, it is better than any guide book and I'm glad I read it first before getting into the specific to-do details of travel guides.

I lived in Alaska for 5 years; have read over 100 books on this awesome state (Non-fiction and fiction), this by far is the best of all them, so far. If you ever wanted to go to Alaska, visit Alaska or live in Alaska---you will find the true Alaska in this book. The pictures are so beautiful and the text not dry but accurate with a touch of humor here and there.

I didn't get to read the entire thing - more of a skim and appreciation for the images and snippets of information. Loved this book - can't wait to get back to the midnight sun this summer!
