One of the most profound books I've ever read. This is a diary from the height of the AIDS crisis (pre medicine that kept you alive) written by a young mother shortly before her husband is diagnosed. From then on out, it's an incredibly personal and intimate look as a family strives to stay together despite a desperate situation. This is a book of profound sorrow, anger, exhaustion, and human dignity. This was my second reading, and I couldn't put it down like it was my first time. A very personal look at the private lives of a family dealing with terminal illness.

i read this book in high school as a freshman when i barely knew anything about HIV or AIDS. Thanksgiving made me feel like i knew the family that was suffering and it really personalized the disease. i'd highly recommend this book to adults and to high schoolers as well. i think it could really drive the point (safe sex) home.

A touching, moving reminder of the early AIDS crisis, the terrible, deadly illness, the secrecy surrounding. As people get complacent about the disease- tho it continues to affect so many people throughout the world - it felt important to be reminded of the realities of the illness to family, children, loved ones. This book is very touching and well written too.
