Dr. Ken Ham is the president of Answers in Genesis USA and is a well-known speaker and author on the subject of Young-Earth Creationism. He received a bachelor degree in applied science (emphasis on environmental biology) from the Queensland Institute of Technology, and a Diploma of Education from the University of Queensland. He has also received two honorary doctorates: a Doctor of Divinity from Temple Baptist College, and a Doctor of Literature from Baptist Liberty University.

He was a director of Creation Science Foundation (CSF) in Australia, an organization which he jointly founded with John Mackay. In 1987 he moved to the United States, still maintaining his links with CSF.

From 1987 to 1993, Ham worked for the Institute for Creation Research, and in 1994 set up what in 1995 became Answers in Genesis (AiG), a creation ministry dedicated to "upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse."

In 2008 Ham was described by well known atheist and evolutionary biologist PZ Myers as a "Wackaloon" for carrying out a prayer session with members of the Pentagon. Ham responded regarding the validity of that prayer breakfastand that PZ Myers and other critics were intolerant of his position.

If you were asked how you know the Bible is true, do you have an answer?

How Do We Know the Bible Is True? Volume 2 provides a host of clear and concise answers to many skeptical questions that people have about the Bible. Some parts were a bit technical (thus subtracting one star) but nonetheless were very interesting and informative. Getting equipped with solid, relevant answers on the truthfulness and authority of the Bible — God's holy Word — is one way you can always be ready to give an answer to the skeptics and seekers of this age. I highly recommend this two-volume series so that you will be able to better follow the apostle Paul's admonition: "Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one" (Colossians 4:6; emphasis mine).

I was gifted this book by my Father In Law and at first didn’t think it was one I would read. Decided to pick it up a few weeks ago and while it took me a while to get through mostly because of the volume of information, I very much enjoyed it. I am a Christian although I struggle with reading the Bible simply because the language is difficult to understand and I have certainly had many questions about what is truth and what is parable. This book helped me understand many of the things I have questioned and helped me to relate the information in the Bible to the science that claims to dispute it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has questions and difficulty understanding the events and teachings of the Bible

THE SECOND OF TWO VOLUMES. WRITTEN BY DIFFERENT AUTHORS

Coeditor Ken Ham is a prominent “Young Earth Creationist,” and the president/CEO and founder of Answers in Genesis, and the Creation Museum; he has written/cowritten many other books. Coeditor Bodie Hodge (who is the son-in-law of Ken Ham) is in charge of day-to-day operations at the Creation Museum, and has also written other books.

Ham and Hodge recount, “when the Creation Museum opened in May of 2007, the atheists protesting the opening hired a plane to fly above the museum with a banner quoting ‘Thou shalt not lie.’ The atheists have no reason not to lie in their own worldview, so they had to borrow from the Christian worldview to make this statement. Interestingly, those atheists who say there is no right and wrong were arguing that the Creation Museum was teaching something wrong (Bible history)… These atheists didn’t have a foundation to determine right and wrong---only their subjective opinion!” (Pg. 69)

Later in this chapter, they observe, “We would be the first to admit that classical and evidential methods would a great in a perfect world… but we are not in a perfect world!... Consider: We all have the same evidence … We look at the same dinosaur bones, same DNA, same rock layers, same continents, and so on. And yet, the majority of the world’s people are not coming to the conclusion that Jesus Christ is Lord. The evidence concerning Christ is not convincing them---even when we put it right in front of their faces! Evidence, by itself, doesn’t convince people… In a broken world, these theoretical methods simply don’t work the way they should due to human sin and the fact that man’s heart is already biased against God---man is not neutral!” (Pg. 76)

Roger Patterson is critical of some proponents of the Intelligent Design movement: “Among old-earth proponents within the ID movement, there would be some disagreement about how mankind came about… Some of the popular figures in the ID movement have clearly laid out their views while others seem to shroud their ideas in vague phraseology that appeals to a wide audience… While [Michael] Behe rejects the randomness of neo-Darwinism, he is an evolutionist, nonetheless… Likewise, William Dembski has recently affirmed that evolution is compatible with the Bible’s explanation of origins, including the possibility of mankind coming from an evolved hominid species… While the ID movement has produced scientific arguments that support what is already known from Scripture, he ‘big tent’ nature of the program makes it problematic from a theological perspective.” (Pg. 100-101)

Hodge asks, “Has Noah’s ark been found? The obvious answer is that people would not be asking this question if Noah’s ark really had been found! It would likely be the find of a lifetime. Both [Mounts] Ararat and Cudi have had their share of popularity over the years. And both have strong supporters on their side... the more logical choice is that of Cudi, not modern-day, volcanic Mt. Ararat that sits on top of fossil-bearing sediment from the Flood. But would we be dogmatic that Cudi was the landing spot? Not at all. The Bible simply does not say… The fact is that there has been no indisputable evidence of Noah’s Ark having been found anywhere (outside of Scripture…) … But is such external evidence needed? Not at all.” (Pg.186)

In another chapter, Hodge notes, “the primary reason for denying that punishment in hell is eternal often DOES NOT COME from the Bible but from the proposition, ‘How can a loving God condemn people to eternal hell?’ That proposition implies that God is not cruel and would not dare judge in such a fashion… But again, this view of God does not come from the Bible. The Bible teaches something different: a crime against an infinite and eternal Creator demands an infinite and eternal punishment (eternity in hell). This is why the Son… who is the infinite and eternal God, could take on such a punishment from the Father who is the infinite and eternal God.” (Pg. 202)

Brian Edwards wrote, “Scattered throughout the Old Testament are references to records that apparently would fill out the details of biblical events and lives: the ‘Book of Jasher’ is mentioned in Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18; the ‘Book of the Wars of the LORD’ in Numbers 21:14; the ‘Chronicles of the Kings of Israel’ and the ‘Chronicles of the Kings of Judah’ in 1 Kings 14:19, et al… we are therefore not in a position to discuss their content. Clearly, they were never intended to enter the canon of the Hebrew Scriptures as separate books, through they may have been used by some who compiled the biblical record.” (Pg. 243)

Tim Chaffey states, “The Bible clearly teaches that giants existed in the past. Many of them lived in and around the land of Canaan, and Joshua was involved in several battles with them. David and his mighty men killed some Philistine giants… cultures from around the world have legends that are often remarkably similar to biblical accounts, including the existence of giants. The biblical accounts of giants are more than just ‘tall’ tales. These enormous people truly existed, and no amount of scoffing or rationalizing by skeptics will change that fact.” (Pg. 329)

This book will be of keen interest to those (particularly with a ‘Young Earth” perspective) studying Apologetics.

From a structural perspective, it seems like some of the chapters in this book would fit better in the first book and some of the topics in the first volume would fit better in this one.

This book deals with more tangential topics to whether or not the Bible is true, such as the shroud of Turin, Atlantis, and why many Christian school are becoming more liberal. This is still a useful book for an overview of many questions raised.

There are many areas of theology and faith that bring questions to mind. In this second volume of similar nature, Ken Ham and others set out to help you answer and understand those questions. In some ways I longed for more information and in others, it gave more than necessary. I found a few of them a bit boring, and somewhat repetitive compared to other works of AiG. All in all still a good read and resource.

A fitting companion to volume one of the series, How Do We Know the Bible Is True? – Volume 2 touches upon roughly 30 relevant apologetics issues and provides sound Biblical answers to these questions:
•Why are young people walking away from the church? Harvard, Yale and Princeton – Once Christian? Why are so many Christian colleges shifting to a secular road?
•Who created God? Where did God come from? What is apologetics? The importance of the Reformation. The authority test – Christianity or humanism?
•Why is the Bible unique? Has the Bible’s text been changed over the years? The “Missing” Old Testament books? The “Missing” New Testament books? What about Theophanies [appearances of God] in the Old Testament?
•Were Adam and Eve real people? What about theistic evolution? Being consistent: trusting the history of the Bible. Christian unity… and the age of the earth. Radiocarbon dating? Radioactive dating of rocks? Chronology wars? Did the agues of Egypt really happen?
•The Shroud of Turin – was it in the grave with Christ? Should we trust the findings of the Jesus Seminar? Was Jesus Wrong? Peter Enns says yes.
•Has Noah’s Ark been found? Nazca Lines – Defying evolutionary ideas? Did Atlantis exist? What can we learn from Bible history. Were there really giants as described in the Old Testament?
• What about annihilationism and hell? Can I use hell in evangelism?

Contributors to this volume include Ken Ham, Bodie Hodge, Carl J. Broggi, Brian H. Edwards, Ray Comfort, Steve Ham, Steve Fazekas, Tim Chaffey, Herb Samworth, Roger Patterson, Georgia Purdom, Ron Rhodes, Andrew A. Snelling, Greg Hall and Larry Pierce.

Frankly, the first few chapters were a rehash of information already related in more depth in Already Gone and Already Compromised, but there is a lot of relevant [and rather timely] information about old-age dating methods and other challenges to Biblical chronology. I particularly enjoyed Tim Chaffey’s dissection of the Jesus Seminar and his overview of giants in the Bible. I also liked the fact that this volume wasn’t afraid to take a look at “fringe” questions such as the origins of the Nazca lines, the aforementioned giants in the Bible, and Atlantis. The book contains a few articles that specifically refute the theistic evolution garbage [call it BioLogos instead of theistic evolution; it's still the same hypocrisy] promoted by Peter Enns and Biologos lately.

My absolute favorite article in the entire book was Ray Comfort’s article, Can I use hell in evangelism? He answers the question cogently, directly and Biblically: Not only can you use hell in evangelism, you must! This pretending that there are no eternal consequences to this whole issue of sin and salvation does a grave disservice to the sinner. If we are truly made in God’s image, then we must needs be as eternal as the Image we reflect; an eternal existence must be spent somewhere! The choice [a glorious and graciously offered choice] is up to us whether we spend it with God or in a place that reflects His very opposite nature, a place of darkness rather than light, torture rather than eternal bliss, eternal death rather than life.

Overall, this is an excellent companion to the first volume and I recommend it without reservation.

Is the Bible the Word of God? Is it true? Can we trust that we have the books that God intended for us to have? What does it mean to hold the Bible as our ultimate authority?

These are questions that every believer must face. How one views the importance and role of the Bible is detrimental to the Christian faith. Will we derive our thoughts and worldview from God, or man?

Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge, along with other leading biblical scholars, have put together an extremely helpful resource that aims to teach and assure us of the truth and reliability of God's Word. How Do We Know the Bible Is True? Volume 2, is composed of 31 well written chapters, each tackling a different issue in the quest to know the truthfulness of scripture.

I found this book to be extremely helpful. Each chapter renewed my confidence in God's word, as well as convicting me of not always giving it my full attention. It also exposed the areas that I have been less than consistent in adhering to a biblical worldview.

This truly is a resource for everyone. This is one book to have on hand for those friends and family who question or struggle with God and his word. Though the articles are factual and informative, none are overly technical or beyond understanding. They can read at their own pace exploring these issues for themselves.

Just looking at the list of chapters and contributors, you know this book is going to be first rate!

"If you were asked how you know the Bible is true, do you have an answer?

Over 29 issues addressed, including:
* Who made God; where did God come from?
* Has Noah's ark been found?
* Hasn't Bible text been changed over the years?
* Is Hell real?
* Did the ten plagues of Egypt really happen?

We are an increasingly skeptical society -- whether it comes to politics, science, or even faith. People see conflict everywhere, even about fundamental aspects of the Bible. When church leaders are at odds about biblical truth and scriptural authority, believers are left confused and uncertain, needing clear biblical truth.

Addressing topics from popular culture like the Shroud of Turin, or "missing" books of the Bible, and even what makes God's Word unique among holy books, How Do We Know the Bible is True? Vol. 2 is a "must have" resource for churches, libraries, and home study." (From New Leaf Publishing Group Website)

My Thoughts About The Book: In Volume 2 of How Do We Know the Bible Is True, authors Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge, tackle some more of the complex questions that are being asked by many people in our society and even in our churches today. In their book consisting of 30 Chapters and then an "Afterword" by Bodie Hodge, the authors pick up where they left off in Volume 1 of How Do We Know The Bible Is True answering more of the questions and addressing more of the issues that confront Evangelical Christians today. Their 2 books help us as believers to be able to give sound reasoning for the hope we have within us...for this world and the one to come.

Some of the challenging topics covered in the book include Why Young People are Walking Away From our Churches, Why is the Bible Unique, The Jesus Seminar, Radiocarbon Dating, The Shroud of Turin, Has Noah's Ark been Found, The "Missing Old and New Testament Books" and other chapters containing information of great significance for such a time as this. Relying heavily on the use of the Scriptures, comparing Scripture with Scripture, as well as the writings of others they aptly support their claim that the Word of God is absolutely true and is the rule of faith and practice for every believer.

In the final chapters of the book; Chapter 30, Spreading the Good News by Roger Patterson," and the "Afterword: Where Do We Draw the Line" by Bodie Hodge, the conclusion of the matter is that we are to boldly and unapologetically share the good news of the Gospel to everyone we can and using every right and reasonable means we can. And certain issues such as Evolution, Noah's Flood, The Trinity and Racism are essential to the ministry of Answers in Genesis as relating to sharing God's Word and contending for the faith. The foundation from which AIG builds and frames their theological views and worldview are solidly Biblical and Christocentric in nature.

If you are looking for a book that will help you answer some of the difficult questions that relate to the veracity of the Word of God I can highly recommend this book. And for more helpful insights and invaluable Biblically based information concerning other issues that relates to the Word of God and its truth you might check out Volume 1 bearing the same title.

The volume 2 is an incredible in depth probe into history and account of The Old Testament. It brings its readers back to basics of the faith. Bodie Hodge's essays on the Noah's Ark and on the Atlantis are incredibly well researched and written, also Brian H. Edwards's The "Missing" Old &New Testament Books was a great work. This book are well written and deeply researched essay-answers to the questions which majority of people may ask in their research of, or on their walk with The God.
