Jonni was both. She'd never really given up her love for country living--but now she was a fashion model in New York. Her fiance, Trevor, fitted in with her glamorous city life-style.
Gabe Stockman, however, was decidedly different. And meeting him again at her parents' ranch in Kansas, Jonni was suddenly swept with doubt and uncertainty.
It was a difficult choice: the elegant, well-mannered man she was engaged to, or the earthy, vital ranchman who felt Jonni belonged in the country--and in his arms.

Janet Dailey passed away peacefully in her home in Branson on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was 69.
Terrible story about two cheaters who get their happily ever. The Kansas-born, rancher’s daughter heroine returns home for an extended vacation after a 6 year modeling stint in New York. She introduces her wealthy Manhattan fiancé to her parents and gets their blessing. Soon, they are busy making wedding plans etc. But as soon as fiancé returns to New York, the heroine is sharing kisses with the manager of her dad’s ranch, the alleged hero of this piece. Apparently, he has held a flame for her since she was 14 and he was 29 (YUCK) but wanted to wait til she was mature enough to handle him. When she left for New York, he didn’t bother pursuing her because he was waiting to see if she was woman enough to return to him on her own. She sure did return but with a fiancé and that’s when suddenly he decided to go into hot pursuit. She doesn’t bother resisting him. There is a particularly purpletastic scene where they watch two wild ducks doing their mating dance, the male duck eventually grabbing the female duck by the neck to have his way with her. Then the hero grabs the heroine by the neck too, proclaiming that “It’s mating season!” How romantic! Her fiancé is out of sight out of mind DAYS after he returns to New York, despite the fact that they had a two year relationship, exchanged I Love Yous, and got engaged with a firm wedding date. The two cheaters eventually get caught red-handed by the fiancé, who then gets beaten to a pulp by the “hero” then dumped by the heroine. These two cheaters deserved each other.

"Yes." The laughing sound he made lacked humor. "I love you. I've been in love with you for years. Half the time I've been like a rutting stag with out a doe. And the other half … the rest of the time, it's been pure hell."
"The Mating Season" is the story of Jonni and Gabe.
Our h is a flourishing supermodel, engaged to a preening man while living in New York. She decides to return home to Kansas after six years, and introduce her family to her fiance as well as her changed self. No longer the country girl, she soon meets the H, her father's manager and the man who she has always had a crush on. He seems unusually angry about her engagement, and soon the h finds herself caught between two men..
A sweet book about homecoming and the heart's true desires. It was obvious how smitten the H was, and how long he waited for the h. She seemed mostly confused and very blind to the H's care for her and her family. I wish we had more scenes with the H and h, and that their ending was more elaborated. Her family was sweet, the OM a peacock.
Jonni is a city sophisticate and a country girl. She has never given up her love for country living, even as a model in New York. Jonni’s fiancé, Trevor, is the perfect accompaniment to her glamorous city lifestyle.
Gabe Stockman, however, is decidedly different. After meeting him again at her parents’ ranch in Kansas, Jonni is suddenly filled with doubts and uncertainties. She faces a difficult choice: the elegant, well‑mannered man she is engaged to, or the earthy, vital ranchman who believes that Jonni belongs in the country—and in his arms.

Any book where the H first gets the hots for the h when she's only 14 (and he's 29!!!!), and four years later is too wimpy to tell her how he feels, and then the h - who put him in big brother zone - comes back to the family ranch after modelling in NYC for six years with the OM/fiancé, whom she's been seeing (and sleeping with) for two years, then sneaks around for hot kissing/fondling sessions with the H (excusing it by telling herself it's just a fling before marriage, and for all she knew, her fiancé had done the same thing), then they both don't feel guilty when they're caught (instead, they blame the OM/fiancé for catching them) and then, to top it all off, the H seems to enjoy very much beating the crap out of the OM/fiancé (after all, the guy prefers the city to a ranch, likes to sleep late and isn't sure he wants children, therefore he deserves to have the crap beaten out of him) when meanwhile he's the one who tried to seduce the guy's fiancée.....
THAT BOOK'S WORTH LESS THAN ONE STAR AND NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN!!!
This was my first Janet Dailey, and it was fun. Lots of forbidden kisses and tumultuous moments in a barn. But these Harlequin Presents are not my favorites…I just happened to get 100 of them for a few dollars. So here we go, reading our way through them. I saw them described as soap operas and it’s a very accurate description. I prefer the Harlequin Romances because they are softer and have more of the romance building. But I am still going to read them and hopefully, enjoy them. This was one of the better ones and I truly enjoyed the story and writing. Hopefully I will enjoy the majority of these Presents novels, but I know there are a few fall-in-love-with-the-hot-kidnapper plots in there. I’m not excited about those.
Jonni was a model. She was born a cowgirl and left to pursue a career on modeling. When she was younger she had a crush on Gabe, the ranch manager. Now six years later, she is engaged to Trevor. The two guys were as different as city and country. Gabe loved her for years. Jonni had to go through many emotions to figure out what she really wanted…
I just read the book, and to be honest I would have fallen for the fiancé and not for the Hero. It's a funny story though, I had laughed a lot when the hero warned the fiancé about the creaking piece of wood in front of his room and his possible attempts to sneak into the heroin's room at midnight.
One of my favorites. This is one of the books that got me hooked on romance novels.I said romance, not F---Me books. It is sweet, and in its own old fashioned way, erotic. Two men wanting the same woman. The one alpha male has loved her and been waiting for her to grow up.The other...the smug peon that thinks he's an alpha male.

You can't take the country out of the girl. Jonni is a Kansas ranch girl at heart but she has been a very successful model in New York City for the past 6 years. She thinks she's in love with a very sophisticated man and they've become engaged. Going home to Kansas to introduce her finance to her parents puts her decision to wed in jeopardy, when she see Gabe the manager of her parents ranch. A good little love story.
