A short, shallow book. Contains a nice amount of info and myths, but really no development or philosophical thoughts are put into it by the author. I was a little bothered by the organization of the stories, for many of them are repeated in different phases of the book. Anyways, it's a nice place to go if you're searching for an ensemble of greek-roman myths and curiosities.

I have been extremely lazy and busy that it took about a week after I finished a certain book and then coming here to write what I think about the book; I don’t think that’s an admirable thing to do, but what can I do when all laziness and the temptation to procrastinate mix together in a bowl that is me? Anyways, I think this was the last of the Crash Course series that I have in my collection, and by far this was the least disastrous experience that I had. The Psychology 101 was horribly boring that I don’t think someone majoring in Psychology themselves would have enjoyed the book; the Religion 101 was a bit better but lost it touch comes the last chapter, it felt like the author wanted to quickly wrap things up; this one was an incredibly nice read from the beginning until the end.

It was easy-to-read, entertaining and definitely educational. If you’re a big fan of Greek and/or Roman mythologies, then I think you would like this book. Even though this was definitely was just a tip of the iceberg for all Greek and Roman Mythologies, but for those just newly venturing into this theme, it sure is a nice place to start. Almost, if not all, the Greek mythologies mentioned in this book were definitely something that I am already familiar about, but since Greek mythologies have a lot of dimensions, it means that one story can have a multitude of different details, so it can still be entertaining.

If for some reasons, reading about mythologies that you already know bore you, fear not, because this book is not about telling the mythologies with simpler words, it is about the aspects that may or may not be known to most people. For instance, the book talks about the significance of the three virgin goddess (Hestia, Athena and Artemis) and how it was considered important way back in Greek (spoiler alert, it’s not because virginity is considered a pure aspect of a female). It’s interesting to learn something new, even when you thought you were already fluent in a certain topic. Definitely a recommend piece, especially if you like a nice bedtime story, then go and pick this book for a late night reading before bedtime.

This was a relatively good book for someone looking for a simple, easy to read, and comprehensive take on Greek Mythology.

The text gives you some perspective on how massive the universe of Greek Mythology is and how dense the stories are.

One could argue that a 101 summary of the topic could easily be searched on Wikipedia. This being said, the organization, although far from cohesive, is complied in a relatively understandable narrative. Which made it a refreshing read, despite the author repeating themselves for context in certain chapters.

There were several times while reading which in where I had to reread sections just to reacquaint myself with the storylines and the values of the characters featured in other stories.

Nitpicking aside, it didn’t disturb my reading enjoyment and would recommend this one to anybody looking to grasp a basic take on the subject of Ancient Greek mythology.

I read another book on classical mythology yesterday and this book pretty much had the same information, much word for word. But it was information and interesting. This book also had some illustrations and photographs in it which I enjoyed.

love love love it. It could’ve had more Roman myths, it was focused mainly on Greek which I was already more or less familiar with. Still, gotta love it!

It was a really informative book and there were a lot of interesting facts but the book was focused more on characters instead of myths. A lot of myths and characters were skipped or sketched. Most of the book was about Greek mythology and there wasn't as much information as I thought about Roman mythology.

A book is very good indeed. I had nostalgic aura around me while reading the book as I had studied these mythologies in BA of English language and literature. The book touches upon briefly mainly all the Greek mythology and few notable mentions of the Roman mythology. It is a light reading book.

Quickish read, very brief on detail (as an introductory text should be). It is amazing how much of this stuff one already knows through osmosis in modern media.

I can't say I was blown away by the style (and do get annoyed when authors repeat something they have already said earlier on), but wasn't really looking to be energised by the narrative. Still would have been nice if it had been edited!

The content was fine, the coverage is mostly Greek, with a couple of Roman chapters at the end (suits me, Roman;s huh, what did they ever do for us?), and bizarrely out of place chapter of myth in modern media - a weird place to put it in the middle of the book and completely irrelevant in the context of the subject as presented.

But interesting for a bit.
