365 Saints: Your Daily Guide to the Wisdom and Wonder of Their Lives – A Delightful Year of Meditations with Practical Suggestions and Surprising, Witty Sayings
Let the Saints' lives guide and touch your life each day!
The life of a saint is the life of an ordinary person lived well. And that's the life readers will discover in this delightful and often surprising collection of words and wisdom from saints throughout the ages. A lovely and inspiring gift book, 365 Saints illuminates how the saints actually lived, detailing their hopes, fears, joys, and sorrows, as well as their lesser–known idiosyncracies and saying. Witty and wondrous, simple and sublime, 365 Saints offers a full year of meditations and practical suggestions for emulating the saints today.
This was an interesting daily reading book, and different than what I expected. I thought it would provide more of a short biography of 365 saints, which it did not. Rather, it was a series of 365 lessons on daily living, sometimes simple, sometimes thought provoking, that seemed to only very peripherally connect to a particular characteristic of the given saint for the day While I thought that was fine, I did wish that there was just a bit more biography on each saint's life. As a non-catholic, I was not familiar with most of the saints only briefly mentioned...
This was a unique approach to the saints. The author often highlighted one facet of a saint’s character, which wasn’t necessarily a positive attribute, and used it to show the reader that even the saints weren’t holy all the time. Thoughtful questions were provided with each entry. A very worthwhile read.
This book is a perfect introduction to the Catholic saints, I read this book as designed one saint a day beginning on Jan. 1, 2019 and finishing today 12/31/19. This year I will re-read this book, taking notes on the various wisdom of the saints and looking for saints I want to learn more about. I highly recommend this book.
The book was ok. It isn't a biography of the saints as much as it is a guide for us on how to live based on the trait of a saint or what their lives may have represented. Good words of wisdom for each day but the book wasn't what I thought.
There was a hymn I used to have to sing in chapel at school:
I sing a song of the lives of the saints og God, patient and brave and true; Who toiled and fought and lived and died for the Lord they loved and knew, And one was a soldier and one was a priest and one was slain by a fierce wild beast. They were all of them saints of God ---and I mean, God helping to be one too.
That may be a combination of two verses, but you get the idea!
An interesting and well-written book covering a wide variety of saints. The Saint a Day format gives you enough information about each to be a starting point if you want to find out more about a particular individual.
I try to read it daily, since that is its purpose (Thus the 365 Saints hilighted). I wish it provided more insight into the lives of the Saints, but it's more focused on the reader instead. This book can be enjoyed by anyone of any denomination.
