Hard hat in hand, Jared Weldon goes undercover, but the answers he finds at McKenna Construction leaves him drowning in passion -- and hard up against a killer...
Hardcore, fast-car-and-wild-women bachelor, Jared Weldon, is sure McKenna Construction is being underhanded. That is the only way the company could be under bidding him and edging his company to bankruptcy. He goes with his twin and business partner to a roadside bar intent on milking information about R. McKenna's practices from the man's crew. Before he can make the first connection, a woman catches his eye and he ends up in a bar fight with her ex, but not before he steals a forbidden, roll-on-the-bar-floor kiss from her and comes close to having the best five seconds of his life. Little did he know, as his hard Irish luck would have it, he was holding his competitor in his arms.
In the three years since her divorce, Rocky McKenna has kept her nose to the grindstone and dodged any and all emotions or physical entanglements with the opposite sex. She has more important things to do in life. Despite setbacks and tragedy, she has worked hard to make McKenna Construction thrive during difficult times. But now, her body is clamoring for more and Jared's masterful kiss is the spark that ignites her suppressed passions.
The day after the kiss Jared hunts Rocky McKenna down at the jobsite she outbid him on. He isn't even sure what his is going to say, he just knows he has to see her again. He shows up in time to save her from being seriously injured by an "accident" on the job, but is slightly injured himself. He is sure someone is out to kill her. Rocky takes Jared for medical help, and he decides he'll use the guise of his older brother's security company and convinces her she needs his bodyguard services.
Rocky is sure her life isn't in danger, but she can't resist having more time with this man who has swept her off her feet. The meeting of their passions, and Jared's intense love making, take her to new sexual heights and opens the door to her solitary heart. But more "accidents" occur and it isn't hard Irish luck at work. Suddenly, as people around her die, Rocky and Jared are in a battle for their lives as they race to uncover the deadly secrets lurking beneath the surface of her seemingly normal life.
Both Jared and Rocky are in for some hard lessons about life and love, but will they discover the treacherous murderer in their midst too late to survive?
Also goes by Jennifer St. Giles and J.L. Saint. This bewitching Georgia Peach is anything but ordinary. She’s a mother, nurse, thriller writer, award-winning paranormal/romance/contemporary author, passionate patriot, event planner and more! She’s also home schooled three children and is the Vice-President of a charitable foundation which helps women and children’s causes and in her spare time she writes screenplays!
J.L. in her own words:
Under a barrage of nagging by BFF’s, I’ve been told my bio was boring, not at all a reflection of just who I am beneath the surface, which is a compliment…I think. So, I promised to rev it up a bit. Thus the reason why I’m sitting here staring at the computer screen with nothing but crickets in my brain. I’m totally into making up wild and interesting stories with a lot of heart thrown into the mix, but telling people about myself isn’t so easy. What can I tell you about me?
I don’t play video games or watch horror because I can’t take the heat, but give me a kickass thriller every minute of every day and I am there. Be prepared for a Hoover Dam meltdown if you’re with me and the movie is sad. So, to avoid disaster, I love romantic comedies.
Never coffee. Always tea. Never beer. Always champagne. There’s more, but hey, gotta save some secrets until after the first date, right?
I grew up in Miami. Went to nursing school in Georgia, where I now reside. I raised and home schooled three great kids. I wrote for nine years before I sold a book, which made me a firm believer that a person should NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE UP ON THEIR DREAMS.
I remember my father’s remark after a particularly scandalous story about one of my ancestors, a story that involves a conspiracy, treason, betrayal, murder, and execution, a story that after a drink or two in the bar, I might be enticed to share. Anyway, what my father said was, “You can’t keep a good man down.” And I kind of see that in myself. Not that I am necessarily good, because the definitions of moral words are often relative, but I do persevere, and I am resilient. Nothing in life has ever worked out the way I planned for it too. In many areas of my life, I have yet to reach the level I thought I would, of where I envisioned I would be, but I haven’t given up. I won’t give up. I continue to work hard and do everything I can to help who I can and to make my dreams come true.
Besides great kids, family, and friends, that perseverance has so far garnered me a USA Today Bestselling tag and twelve plus books on the shelf in a number of genres (contemporary romantic suspense, historical suspense, paranormal suspense, and contemporary romance). I’ve won a number of writing awards, two National Choice Awards, three Maggie Awards, a RT Book Club Reviewer’s Choice Award, the Daphne du Maurier Award, the Marlene Award, and the Golden Heart Award to name most of them. I work with several amazing women in a charity to raise money for a shelter that helps abused and homeless women and children. I’ve revived my nursing career after a long hiatus, have renewed my license, and will find the right job for me.
I know there are many more great things ahead.
I write romance because I believe that when you boil all of life down to its essence, if you take a human being to the very core of his existence, then you will find that what matters more than anything else is to be loved and to give love.
Life is all about choices and to pull from one of Erich Fromm’s quote, I choose to create and to love rather than destroy and to hate.
I hope you enjoy my stories.
Go forth, dream, believe, create, inspire, and love,
Jenni (J.L. Saint, Jennifer St. Giles, Jennifer Saints)
3 Stars...barely! It didn't pull me in the way I hoped it would!
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, but for some reason, this didn't have the same appeal as Wild Irish and Smooth Irish. I was looking forward to Jared's book and enjoyed his character, along with his twin James in the previous books. I can't quite put my finger on it, but if I had to say, two things didn't work for me. Jared's relationship with Rocky lacked chemistry, they connected immediately in the story, but I just never felt it. Jared is also injured when he jumps in harms way to protect Rocky. He has a pretty severe injury, and as it was written, was in a lot of pain, but that didn't stop him from screwing Rocky six ways to Sunday...REALLY?! I was having phantom pain for him. OW!! No, didn't work for me!
The other thing was the mystery that surrounded the attempts on Rocky's life. It was all so confusing and drawn out...boring...ZZZZZZZZ! I found myself skimming just to find out who the killer was. The action towards the end was good, but the ending itself did not leave me satisfied. I will definitely read Jared's twin James' book, and I hope the author brings the story back to the family and the brothers, which is what drove the first two books, rather than the suspense.
This book came as a surprise to me because even though I have read the other two books in the series, they were pretty much average for me, this one worked better. The hero and his twin run wild and their construction business isn't doing so well. Their chief rival is another business which he learns is being helmed by the heroine. He meets her before he knows who she is and is attracted to her. Then he appoints himself her bodyguard when "accidents" start happening. Of course his lie stretches out for a long time, she thinks he is a security person when he is not. She has plenty to deal with, a psycho ex, dead uncle, sick father and secrets about her parents past. The suspense sub-plot was a bit far-fetched for me but I still ended up liking the book.
HARD IRISH is the sexy third installment in Jennifer Saints Weldon series.
Jared and his twin James are hardcore playboys, so much to the point they are nearly bankrupt. When they show up at the baptism of their nephews, hung over and barely able to complete their part of the ceremonies as Godfathers, Jared realizes something needs to change. He blames McKenna Construction for the downfall of Shamrock Construction. His first course of action is to find out how McKenna is stealing jobs from Shamrock. Jared decides to snoop around MC to find out their secrets.
Rocky McKenna has her hands full dealing with her father’s recent stroke and subsequent hospital stay, not to mention trying to keep McKenna Construction in business. Now things are happening around and to her that are changing everything she grew up believing.
A chance encounter in a bar leads to a passionate kiss between Jared and Rocky, a kiss that rocked both of their worlds, only they didn’t know who each other was. Jared finds out that Rocky is the R. McKenna running McKenna Construction, he goes to her job site to apologize for the kiss and find a way to check out MC. While there a suspicious accident happens and Jared finds himself going undercover in a different way, instead of snooping around MC for ways to steal their business back from MC, he is going undercover to save her life. In the process Jared lies about who he is, he tells her he works for his brother Jesse’s security company, not Shamrock Construction.
The chemistry between Rocky and Jared is scorching hot and the emotional connection fast and strong. I will never look at biscuits and honey without having a momentary hot flash. Jared gets caught up in his desire, the need to protect Rocky and the lie he told. The mix of suspense and conflict is nail biting. When Rocky finds out about Jared’s lie she cuts him off, his first attempt at winning her back is sweet and sexy!
Overall HARD IRISH is a good read. The sex scenes are super hot and descriptive. Rocky is a strong female brought to her knees by secrets from the past and Jared is just the strong man to help her deal with it. I have to be honest and admit the end was a bit abrupt and rushed for me, they didn’t say I love you. The ending felt more like a happy for now not a happy ever after. I enjoyed seeing the Weldon brothers and parents. I hope we get James’ story and more about Jared and Rocky.
I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Rocky has been running her father's construction business for several months since his stroke and brought it back from the brink of bankruptcy. She has just won a coveted bid on a new construction site and Jared from a competing construction company is convinced she is getting the bids by using illegal laborers and poor grade construction materials. He goes to the site to get some answers and both he and Rocky barely miss getting crowned by a large planter from six stories up. And the near misses keep on coming. This was an okay read with a lot of editing issues.
Exciting, interesting, and history of the war and struggles of the Irish.
Exciting and interesting from the beginning. The struggles of a woman trying to turn her family 's business around. Murder seem to be chasing her and her new love. The mystery of her Irish background, the struggles of the war in Ireland.
Could not put it down. It kept you guessing at every turn. Wonderful suspense. The proofreader should be shot though. Lots of typos and errors. Other than that a fun read. Loved the plot but I like things left to the imagination not all the graphic sex. I skip over those parts.
If you are looking for romance, family dynamics, murder, and mayhem this is the perfect book. The only bad parts were the bad characters because they are so believable. Join Rocky and Jared on their journey to forever. You will not be disappointed.
I enjoyed reading Jared and Rocky's story. It was more in-depth than than just a sex filled story, although yea, that was good too! There was a touch of very interesting history, forgiveness, stubbornness, hope and of course love. I'm definitely going to read James story, cause who doesn't love twins!
3 stars - due to errors There were grammatical errors and twice the author used the wrong character's name. I understand an occasional error - no one is perfect, but there were quite a few and using the wrong name is a big mistake which detracts from what was a good story.
Not a bad book, but over the top in coincidences and so unrealistic. Terrible editing. Not very likable hero. So many things just didn’t make sense. First book was Best.
He’s a twin, one of 4 brothers. He’s an builder that’s lost out on some jobs and investigates his competition. She’s a beautiful, smart builder that grabs his attention and then needs his protection.
This was a wonderful story... Very sexy, very sweet and very scary at times. Greed can make some people do nasty things to others. This was a really good read. Enjoyed it thoroughly!!
Exceptionally well written. A few mistakes here and there. Not to worry. The storyline is well written. Love, bombs, a big dog, a crazy neighbor and Irish luck. You will love this book
Enjoyable. The mystery of her mother and father was very compelling. I was on pins and needles. However, I found the eroticism a bit too much for my taste.
Ah, the twin. I guess its a twin thing, leaving the two youngest Weldon brothers for last. I was hoping this could be an two for one deal, as in both brothers falling at the same time, but alas, it isn't. This story has much more action than the previous two, but it still has a great story. Its somewhat a coming of age story, or maybe a coming to Jesus story, but reading Mr. Jared Weldon fall, and hard, is fun.
Although the female character had about the worst name ever for a girl, I really liked this book. A lot of drama and mystery to this one. I always love a giant female character, and 6 foot tall Rocky is definitely giant. Jared was sexy and honestly, I apparently need to read the Kama Sutra, because I just can't picture some of the things they were doing. WOW James got a little whiny, I really hope his story is better than he acted in this book
I really enjoyed this third book in the Weldon series! Enough suspense to keep me on edge a bit, especially waiting for the blow out when Rocky finds out the truth about Jared...and just hoping she handles it how I feel she should! Great Romantic suspense, I'm really hoping I'll get to read James' story next.
I have read this book twice now! It is such an intensely sexy & edge of your seat suspenseful read! I have loved every second of Jared and Rocky's story! I highly recommend the Weldon Brothers Series, this book and this MUST-READ Author!!
LOVE the Weldon boys. Hard Irish was just the right mix of naughty and nice. Intrigue, sex, romance, and even a history lesson all rolled into one. I have enjoyed all the Weldon Brothers, but I do believe that each book gets a little spicier and each brother gets a little sexier than the last. Which leads me to ask, when can we expect James' story?
Good mystery, okay romance. Not as good as the first two, but still enjoyable. I though the chemistry between Rocky and Jared was good at first, but when it got down to it, it sort of fizzled, but picked up again near the end, so all in all I would call it okay. Still hoping for James' story.
