Brock Holloway has it all -- money, friends, a bitchin' car and a promising football career. At least, that's what people see. Inside, though, Brock is fighting for something he knows he can never have: Unconditional love. As the child of Aphrodite, he is worshipped, admired, wanted - but never loved.
Zack Duran is a wolverine shifter -- and not a nice guy. Zack's shifter side is always in control, often making him heartless and unfeeling. When Zack is assigned to guard Brock Holloway, his tactless wolverine tendencies become even more prevalent and Zack has to fight his shifter personality AND his genuine feelings for the beautiful football player.
A near tragedy shakes him to his core, and Zack can no longer fight the feelings he has for Brock. But giving in to his emotions may come at too high a price. A startling secret charges Brock with the nearly impossible task of taming Zack's beast. Is he up to the challenge? Can Zack give him what he needs? And with danger working overtime, can they finally be together as they were intended?
I have been blessed in this life to not only have parents that support me, but kids that do as well. I grew up in a loving but "Old School" French household. My parents worked for the airlines (TWA) so I was able to see a lot of Europe as a kid. I moved to Seattle Washington at the age of 22 and stayed there for twelve years before moving to Alaska for a little over two. Fairbanks, AK was one hell of an experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back! I spent a little over a year in South Carolina before moving back to Arizona. I then left for Kansas for five years and now reside in Arizona. I've been connected to the military in one way or another for over half my life and wouldn't change a thing about it. Writing has become my full time job and I've never been so happy doing a job I love and being able to do it in my jammies. I plan on writing until I dry up and die. Hopefully, that won't happen soon!
Brock Holloway is great at keeping up appearances. From the outside looking in you would see a successful football player with money, friends and the ability to get any guy he wants into his bed. The view from the inside is completely different though. Brock is lonely and vulnerable, he is abandoned by his adoptive parents and while he can get any guy he wants, they only want sex, they can’t give him the one thing he craves more than anything else... Love.
Zack Duran has been tasked with protecting Brock, much to his dismay. Brock is beautiful, smart and funny. But he sleeps with anyone that smiles in his direction, and it infuriates Zack. The wolverine shifter already struggles with keeping his beast at bay, and when he sees Brock lowering himself and allowing men to just use him and then toss him aside, it makes Zack even angrier. He refuses to admit or accept that he is falling in love with the sexy, blonde Olympian.
Forced to work together by the bosses, James and Wayne, Brock and Zack slowly become more comfortable with each other. As they get to know each other they learn that they aren’t so different after all. Both have lost their parents, both are alone and vulnerable, and soon the mutual attraction takes the lead. They will have to learn how to express their feelings and not keep things bottled up if they stand a chance at a future together though. One wrong word from Zack could send Brock spiralling back to his old ways. And Zack still doesn’t know how to control the beast that fights him for control every day. What if he lost that control and hurt Brock? Could he live with himself?
I’ve been waiting for what seems like forever for Brock’s story. He has been a secondary character for several books now, starting with his relationship with Nik and his friendship with the shifters. I had no idea just how wounded and fragile he was, which is a testament to Gasq-Dion’s writing. Brock is portrayed as the man whore, beautiful, confident and oozing sex appeal. When you get a look inside him though, you see a completely different picture. One of loss and hope and disappointment, to the point of suicide. It added a depth and reality to the story that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.
Then there is Zack, the loner wolverine shifter that was taken and abused because of his genes. His very DNA is so unstable that the team fears Zack won’t be able to control himself. There is one thing that can bring him back from the brink of insanity though, Brock. Their connection is complicated, strange and endearing, and it’s the only thing that will save them.
I have to say that this is some of Sandy’s best work to date. While her books are always amazing and she has this ability to weave multiple characters and storylines and not leave the reader confused, this book was reminiscent of the early days in the Assassin/Shifter series. While all her books are a love story at heart, sometimes you get a glimpse into the raw actuality of what some people have to survive in order to find that love. My favorite stories from this group of characters are Wyatt and Preston (An Ignited Passion) and Scott and Tristan (Pleading The Fifth). What these three books, stories have in common is the way the characters fight with everything they have and risk it all for the love that they share. So, thank you Sandy for going back to the basics with this story and giving us a gritty love story in the end.
This is a must read for fans of Assassin, Shifter, Paranormal and that hard earned Happy for now. If you are new to the Skull Blasters world I suggest starting at the beginning, at the very least, start with the first Olympians book.
*Review based of ARC copy given in exchange for an honest review*
Hmmmm... *happy sigh* loved this one! Surprisingly these books never get old, even after hitting over 20 books in the Assassin/Shifter series. They just keep me hanging for more!!
Brock is a manwhore who has everything, of all the Olympians he's one of the few who got adopted by decent parents, tons of money, and the best of everything. But apperances can be deciving, all those men he has been with only wanted the prize of bedding him and weren't looking for a relationship. His parents might have looked great when people were around, but when they were alone they ignored him and made him do everything for himself, and the money might have been nice but it never gave him the love he wanted and needed.
Zachs life wasn't pretty, he was captured and experminted on for years. It made his wolverine side more dominate which when he came back into the regular world makes him seem like a big a$$whole. When he is assigned to Brock his wolverine comes out full force and is determined to piss off and upset Brock at every turn.
When things in the war takes a bad turn and one of them is almost lost both are forced to confront their feeling and figure out if they could be just what the other needs.
This is a stroy I've been waiting for. These two guys are definitely ones I've wanted to see behind their masks and now you finally get to see them!
Brock is a lover with Aphroditie as a mother of course that's the way he is, but what you see in stories past was his arrogant facade while he was hitting on everything in the vicinity. Inside al he wants is closeness, love and comfort from someone and that's his true nature just waiting for someone to see and help come out.
Zach has always seemed like a giant douche because he just pops out whatever comes to his mind. I loved seeing the why behind it and learning why he is the way he is.
Another great addition to this series I enjoyed seeing even for to the storyline and its characters and seeing who might be getting their story next.
I have been waiting for this book for so long. Ever since they first met and the whole "you smell like jizz" thing. This was bit of a let down. I mean the scene that lead to depress Brock and whole suicide attempt just seemed overly dramatic. What I mean is will 12 years old pills be that effective anymore? I think I would have accepted it more if his power was empathy. In the previous books Brock is portrayed as a carefree, sexually active college football player. His character development didn't seem right. The whole he really just want to be kiss and love because that what all people who display ho like behavior want. But the thing that I have issue with is this whole shitty adoptive parents that now is becoming a recurring theme. The bad guys are all seem to have the same personality but different names. The fact that these kids that were giving up by the god or goddess parent is easily welcome into their children lives again is hard fact to shallow. I'm also over the whole gang going to Cuff n Stuff and putting on a performance for their special boo.
What I will say is that I like Zack and his development. He is the right match for Brock. I understood where his caustic personality came from. I think I would have like to see him interact more with the guys and see how they influence him to being the man he is today.
Overall I have a love and hate relationship with this series. I would probably continue with this series but worry about keeping up to date. I would only recommend this book only to longtime Sandrine's fan.
Many moons ago I picked up a book called A Marked Man. Someone had been raving about it on my Facebook page so off I went to purchase it. I hadn’t realised at the time it was the first book in a very long series called Assasin/Shifter! I was addicted; there are currently 23 books in that series and I have loved every single one of them. Keeping up with the world building and characters alone must be a full time job for Sandrine!!
Off the Assassin/Shifter series comes the 12 Olympians. These books have a lot of the old characters and host of new ones that are demi-gods, you quite literally get twice the fun! Strange Addiction is book 4 in the series and the story of Brock and Zack.
Brock seemingly has everything he wants or needs in life. Money, prestige, good friends and an endless revolving door to his bed but he is lonelier than ever before. What he really needs is someone to hold him, someone to kiss him and someone to love him. What he actually gets is cold mechanical sex that just increases his loneliness and leaves him unhappy. He may laugh and joke with his friends about being a man whore but in reality it hurts. Even his adoptive parents don’t seem to love him, packing up when the going gets tough and leaving him more alone than ever.
Zachs life has been a bit of nightmare and it is only now through the help of the Skull Blasters team that he is learning how to socialise. Captured, detained and experimented on for years he is snarky and cold and has no time for his new young charge and his whoring ways. His DNA was altered whilst in captivity and he is in a daily battle with his wolverine side to keep it under control.
Neither of these men shows their true personas to the outside world and definitely not to each other. The whole time they are having naughty thoughts about each other they are at the same time hurting each other with their nasty words and actions. They go backwards and forwards in small steps until the night it all becomes too much for Brock and his actions could have dire consequences for the rest of the Olympians and the team. The one it hits most though is Zack and he has to admit, against everything that his wolverine wants, that he is falling for Brock and can’t imagine living without him.
When they finally sort their heads out and get together they are as cute, hot and bad assed as all Sandrines men. There is also another dormant problem of Zach’s to sort out but love will conquer all as we see the next demi god find his soul mate.
This book touches on a sensitive subject that can leave families and friends devastated. Remember no matter how bad it seems at the time, tomorrow is another day.
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
To appreciate this book you need to have read the previous three in the series. To fully appreciate the series, you might benefit from reading the Shifter/assassin series which introduces many of the characters.
Just as each book advances the main plot, we also get the bonding of another couple. Here, mostly we get back story, rather that a major leap in the removal of the rogue elements, but we certainly get a moving romance. It was clear in book one that Zack and Brock were affected by each other, although not in a good way. But as the story unfolds, it becomes clear what barriers are in place for this pairing. The fact that sex does not equal love or caring, is a fact that Brock, child of Aphrodite has learned, but cannot escape. Zack has been subject to experimentation, and fears his animal has overall control. The set up enables the author to give us another passionate storyline.
This author doesn't have the most well written stories but there is always an entertainment factor to them... In all her series and I've read lime 30 of her books. In this one... I didn't get either thing witting or entertainment and I didn't like the MCs.
I am so addicted to this series! The assassin/ shifter series never fails to deliver an intense, incredible story that grips you from page one. This one is so much more because it deals with difficult situations with amazing compassion. Suicide is a huge factor in this book, and having had to deal with this subject in my own world, I was concerned how it would play out. Sandrine has gone above and beyond in how she expressed the facets of it. I knew this book would be awesome, but it exceeded my expectations. Brock is the son of Aphrodite, and as such, men lust after him all the time. All he really wants is to be loved, yet all others want from him is sex. He isn’t even loved by his adopted parents. They showed him off when it suited them. They already were disgusted by him for being gay. Being a demi-god was one more thing they could not accept. They didn’t even tell him they were moving. He happened upon the house as they were leaving. Zack is a wolverine shifter, but he doesn’t want Brock to know. He is assigned to watch over Brock, but because of the things that were done to him in captivity, he says all the wrong things when he gets flustered. Zack is part of the team ever since John freed him in Siberia. But Zack is extremely damaged from what was done to him. He and Brock have trouble getting along at first. Brock spends a lot of nights getting laid as he hunts for the love that is missing in his life. The one true friend he has is his roommate Jordy. Zack begins to realize that he has feelings for Brock when his jealousy gets the better of him. Brock’s ex, K, isn’t who he says he is and tries to manipulate Brock. He almost succeeds in destroying him. Because of the things that happen, Brock and Zack become much closer, yet Zack is always afraid that he will hurt Brock because his shifter side is stronger than his humanity. It takes the entire team to help these two figure out what matters, but will it be in time to save one of their own? And will the Gods be able to help? We get to know much more about who Brock and Zack really are in this book. I love that with each new book we find out more and more about all the members of the teams. This installment is a must read for anyone who is a fan of this series! It is an incredible story that also has some important lessons in it. And for those that think life is too hard and isn’t worth living? You especially should read this. Life has a lot of twists and turns, and it is not always easy. But stick around, or you might miss some amazing events. Grab a copy and settle in for a whirlwind of an adventure. And if you are just now learning of this series? Start at the beginning and fall in love with these characters, you won’t regret it!
As a story this is silly as usual but entertaining enough. However, in regards to a message about suicide it completely fails in my opinion.
Not only does that situation develop in an extremely heavy-handed fashion, but . Making someone who is suicidally depressed feeling even worse about themselves is the wrong way to deal with the situation. Beyond that, the way things play out here is just too easy. All Brock needs to hear is that people love him, yay. His OP mother loves him, despite all the evidence to the contrary and the rich mythological history showing how little the Greek gods cared for their offspring.
Argh, I am doing it again. I wonder why, even knowing how silly these stories are, I always start trying to take them seriously after all. It’s sheer instinct, I suppose. Very misguided.
Anyway. Within the parameters of this series, this still is a nice story, if completely ridiculous and mushy. I guess I’m just not in the mood for all these past, present and future couples being mostly the same kind of teenage fantasy.
Brock just wants someone to love him for him. So far he's only found guys that lust after his body because he's the son of Aphrodite. But Zack is different. Zack sees him.
I just love this series. I don't have enough words and gush for these guys. The shifters, assassins and olympians that Sandrine has created a world around are just the most wonderful there are. I can't get enough of them!
This book is very emotional and may be triggering for some. I loved it even though it made me cry more than once. Just read it snd you'll understand all the things.
I think reading out of order was a bad idea. I get the gist that the 12 Olympians are supposed to stop something, or protect the world from something....not sure what though. This is MY FAULT though, because I'm sure that if I had read the first 3 books I'd already know that info.
I also feel like I'd enjoy the side characters more if I hadn't read out of order.
I connect with Brock. Zack's character interested me. The experimentation that was done of him and others. His dual shifter sides. I'd like to find out more.
I think I should go back and start at the beginning.
Another great add to the series. Brock Holloway and Zach Duran were a surprising story for me. These two haven't been my favorite characters so I wasn't excited to read it and just wanted to get it over to go onto the next. I am SO happy I was wrong! This was surprisingly sweet and heartbreaking at the same time. Just wow, I did not think I could like them and I do now! Great Job Sandrine, can't wait for the next.
I read this one out of order ~ I'm not quite up to this stage, but it really didn't matter since I'd already met all the characters (through to book 22).
I enjoyed the conflict that both MCs experienced in fighting and then embracing their attraction to each other. Our bad guys pop-up throughout the book but they are much more a side-plot than a solid focus. SGD really focuses on the pairings and their trials to make together. IMHO one of her better stories.
My Review ~
How would you feel if there was no one in your life who really knew who you were? Really wanted to be with you just to be with YOU? That's how Brock Holloway feels every day. While he has the appearance of being the man-whore, the party boy who has everything. He's uses sex, random hook-ups to cover up how alone he feels, even surrounded by all his friends. Just once he wants someone to see him, to hold him like they mean it, to kiss him and know that they're kissing him and not the son of Aphrodite.
Zach Duran is still almost half wild after being experimented on, and locked away for so long. He has almost no social skills, definitely no filter on his thoughts to words, and he's not used to being around so many people all the time. He's also been appointed as Brock's Guardian. But can Zach control himself long enough around Brock to actually be an effective Guardian?
The relationship that develops between Zach and Brock is there almost from the start. However Zach's inner shifter fights him and every time he feels something for Brock he lashes out at him. Brock ends up thinking that Zach thinks he's a whore and hates him. While it's not an insurmountable task to get Zach's wolverine to accept his emotions and feelings for Brock, it's not easy either. Eventually they figure out that they are attracted to and have serious feelings for the other. Of course this IS an Assassins/Shifters - Twelve Olympians book..so you KNOW that it's just not going to be an easy romp into a relationship.
Zach and Brock are pretty much perfect for each other. Brock is outgoing, sweet, and eager to find that person to spend the rest of his life with, that actually wants HIM. Zach is not sociable, a grouchy ass, and hasn't ever had a relationship since he was locked up and experimented on. While that all sounds at cross purposes, Brock brings out the best in Zach, in all forms. And Zach gives Brock the stability and solid arms he needs to feel surrounding him.
This is particularly important because Brock, due to the nature of his abilities, suffers from depression. He doesn't believe anyone wants him, needs him in their lives and it seriously isolates him. His family that raised him, also didn't help this because while they were okay with raising an weird child, they didn't want a GAY weird child. They made sure to share that with him, too.
I enjoyed watching surly, grumpy Zach turn into protective, loving Zach. Watching Brock soak in all that affection and love, and also acceptance of just being him is wonderful. Holy hot shifter/Olympian sexy times ya'll!! Brock and Zach almost literally burn the up the sheets in Strange Addiction. While yes, there is the fun sexy times, this story isn't just about that or even Brock and Zach's relationship. It's about learning to trust yourself, trusting those around you, and realizing that you can be loved for yourself and not for WHO or WHAT you are.
Both Brock and Zach are damaged by their pasts and to be able to show those vulnerabilities and become whole again shows great storytelling abilities from the author. As always I loved the newest story but this one left a bigger impact because of the characters vulnerabilities. I look forward to the next books in the series.
This is the fourth book in the Olympian series following Lux Ex Tenebris and I do not recommend this as a standalone. We were introduced to Brock Holloway way back when, as the man loving football player that didn’t seem to turn away any man that paid him attention. At first glance he seems to be shallow, self centered, a man who has everything within his reach, but underneath all of that is a man who is in pain. Finding out he was the child of Aphrodite only made things worse. He longs to find someone that will love him for who and not what he is. His adoptive parents after only giving him money instead of affection; throw him out as soon as they found out who he is. Finding out his guardian is Zack Duran the man who once told him he smelled like he rolled in jizz, well that was the icing on the crap cake.
Zack Duran, wolverine shifter aka asshole, we met him when he was rescued in Siberia and went to live with the two alphas Jonas and Jackson. After suffering abuse that he won’t allow himself to remember, Zack’s wolverine runs the show. The wolverine is cold, callous, and doesn’t allow Zack to get too close to anyone. Since the shifter’s DNA is so unstable, some of the team worries about his ability to control his wolverine. After both James and Wayne say that he is to guard Brock, Zack becomes infuriated. Every time Brock goes off with another guy, he gets angrier and doesn’t want to face that he may have feelings for Brock.
Brock and Zack collide at every turn. Brock trying to hide how everything affects him and Zack being as abrasive as possible makes it extremely difficult when they both don’t want to give in too easily. Fortunately fate always has a strange way of figuring things out. A troubling event occurs that forces Zack to face his fears and admit his feelings for Brock.
This book has more of a love story that is reminiscent of her earlier works. Although the danger is certainly present, it focused more on the love aspect and the development of what is to come. Of course we still have all the favorites peeking in for example Nikolai, Elijah, and Jaxon. We also get to see more of Jordy, Brock’s roommate, and what his story could be. I had been looking forward to their HEA for months. I immediately fell in love with Brock so long ago and for him to finally get his story told pleased me to no end. We get to see the layers pull back and see how caring and even fragile he is. All Brock ever wanted was to love and to be loved unconditionally for who he is. I adored seeing Zack grow into someone who could be that person for Brock. We get to see Zack’s inner struggle with his feelings, and how he overcomes his very DNA to love Brock. Although I would have loved more action, I do understand why it was written this way. Faithful fans will not be disappointed and to the newbie’s out there please do pick up this series from the beginning.
A copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review. Please visit www.lovebytesreviews.com to see this and many more reviews, author interviews, guestposts and giveaways!
WOW! Once you get into these books you will not want to come out!!! What an amazing concept. So very different!!! Took me back to early high school and greek mythology but in a great way! So far there are four books out in this series and I can only assume there will be twelve total books since there are twelve Olympians. I read all four for this review so let me talk about the others first.
Books 1&2 are sold together on Amazon. Book one is Justice & Skyler’s story, Justice For Skyler. Justice is a werewolf and Skyler is the Olympian. Let me stop here and save you some of the issue I had. There is an Assassin/Shifter series that is huge (23 books) and it would save you some confusion by reading that series first. They sorta go together. I didn't and really was a bit lost through the first 8-10% of this first book in the Olympian Series. It didn’t last long, the author does a great job of bringing you up-to-date, just expect slight confusion - just push through it because this series is fantastic!!!
Book two is Jaxon & Elijah’s story, At Year’s End. Jaxon is a werewolf and has been in love with Elijah since Elijah was 16! But he kept his distance. He wanted him to have his time in high school. To live and have a childhood. Jaxon felt it was wrong to have a relationship with him before he was eighteen. He had to watch him from a distance for a long time. However, Elijah’s birthday is coming up and Jaxon can’t wait any longer. Elijah has to be his.
Book three is Killian & Stone’s story, Lux Es Tenebris. Killian is a shifter & werewolf with powers. Stone is the Olympian. Killian was caged for his entire childhood and escaped confinement only to live pretty much homeless. He has no social experience, wasn’t held or loved at all and really doesn’t know how to react to humans. Stone takes this as he’s just an asshole until he learns more about him. Stone is very scared he’s going to hurt Killian since his power is dangerous.
Book four is Zack & Brock’s story, Strange Addiction. Zack is a shifter/wolverine and Brock is an Olympian. Zack is scared to death that he’s going to hurt Brock because he can’t keep his wolverine in check. That part of him is very dangerous and uncontrollable.
There is action, fighting, relationship drama and serious hot sex in these books. But it’s not just sex….they all belong together-mated. There’s visits from the Olympian’s parents (gods) and really dangerous fights with rogue werewolves. There’s even hints of mystery about who and what powers and each demi-god or Olympian has and how they can channel it and control it. It’s really fantastic!
I can’t wait till the rest of them come out!! The concept and story along with crazy interesting characters makes for a fantastic book! I’m now am a huge Sandrine Gasq-Dion fan!!! Loved!
I really love this series so much and the dynamic of friendships formed since the first book of A Marked Man. The Olympians is a spin-off series from Assassin/Shifter series and Sandrine has managed to work in a third series that will have characters from this series to make guest appearances. This is the Santorno Series and I really can't wait for more on this particular series. Sandrine is a very talented writer to be able to combine so many characters and keep it all in order. In Strange Addiction we finally get to meet Brock Holloway and Zack Duran. On the outside it looks like Brock has everything he wants and is happy but nobody knows how much he is suffering inside. He craves love and attention but it seems the guys that sleep with him are only attracted to him because of his looks. After they use him then that's it. He is so lonely and feels hopeless and takes extreme measures to take away his pain. I cried for him because nobody should feel like this and it broke my heart that he thought he was so alone. Zack is not as hard ass as he acts. He fights his feelings for Brock very hard but it's not his own feelings he has to deal with he constantly he also has to fight his inner wolverine shifter who is fighting him the entire time. Zack was more wolverine than human but he fought as hard as hell to take control of his wolverine side for Brock's sake. One night Zack's true feelings come out when he had to save Brock's life. This was the turning point for both of them. The love that grew between them became stronger every day. I only wish there was a little more background on Zack but that's just me. If I'm not mistaken Zack never had a chance to submit to Brock when they made love if you know what I mean. A little TMI I know but I was curious as to why he was not able to have his chance:) You will enjoy this book and love all the characters in there. Of course my beloved Nikolai makes an appearance and is funny as hell. Nikolai is my favorite character out of all the series. The things he says are so unfiltered which why I like him so much. Can't wait for the next book in either of the series that Sandrine has. She is a great writer and I look forward to her next book.
Brock and Zack are two in a large family of Olympians and Shifters. Their relationship starts out quite rocky, as they are learning about themselves and each other. Zack is attracted to Brock, but due to jealousy, an emotion that is unfamiliar to Zack, he belittles Brock on a regular basis. Brock believes that Zack is the epitome of rude and annoying.
While Zack has come from a past that he cannot remember, he knows that he is dangerous and tries to come to terms with the fact that he has no past - or at least one that his mind has blocked due to the trauma he suffered. Brock is the son of Aphrodite and has always wanted someone to see him for what he has to offer, not his looks. Brock has lived his life with almost no physical or emotional love. He had unfeeling parents, was bullied for being gay and went through life looking for close physical contact by sleeping his way through people. Zack must learn to control his inner beasts in order to ensure that he will never hurt Brock. Brock, for the first time in his life, has someone that wants to be with him for who he is, not because he has power over them, as the son of Aphrodite. Together, they learn that love is worth fighting for.
While a war is swirling around them, Brock and Zack must figure out if they can let the feelings they have for each other come to the surface, or if it is safer to keep those feelings hidden. This book had more of a sci-fy feeling than the other stories. Zack is essentially raised in a laboratory. He is tortured by scientists to see if they can bring out Zach's hidden shifter forms.
I enjoyed this story and really enjoyed how protective Brock became over Zack, despite Zack being the protector. I thought that the author did a good job at incorporating the other characters from the previous books in to the story as well. All of the characters are supportive and want the best for each other.
This series is pretty great too. I would recommend this series if you enjoy shifter stories and paranormal activity.
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
It is so hard to want something so bad that you settle for a taste of what could be. I have been there and it is a dark murky place that allows you to not question anything just as long as you get your fix even if it is just for a moment in time. Brock has learned from an early age If you just put together enough of those moments, maybe just maybe the lie you live can be enough to survive on. This carousel lie is one he can’t seem to stop, long enough to grasp how out of control his life has become. Being young and living life on the edge just to prolong the lie and keep enjoying the euphoria of empty high points; moments where he can forget the loneliness and pain. Life as he knows it has irrevocably changed forever, no turning back the hands of time where fate has placed one infuriatingly- sexy-frustrating-mouth-watering-judgmental-watcher on his new found odyssey. Zack is unexpected and makes Brock want to care. Why he tries, baffles him and disheartens him at the same time. Whenever Zack looks at him with disappointment, Brocks world is rocked. Zack has never lived a life of ease and has his own freaking issues to contend with. Protecting Brock is a pain in the …well it is just a big freaking pain and one he questions all the time. Watching this barely a man make one bad choice after another is hard. He does not only need to protect him from the real monsters of the world he has to protect him from his own inner monsters; which one of the two will win is up in the air. Unwittingly he has the power to destroy whatever good Brock has in him, and some words can hurt more than a heavy hand. What is a man to do when his Prince Charming does not want you to be his Cinderfella? One man fears to open his heart and life to another; and the other man only wants to open his heart and his arms to someone who can truly love him. Will these two ever get their heads out of the sand long enough to see the wave before it leaves.

I was introduced to the world of Sandrine Gasq-Dion a few months ago when I read one of her Assassin / Shifter books. I loved it so much I made it a mission to read them all...then I found this series lol. This is the fourth book in The 12 Olympians series I have read. I am in love with all of these characters and their stories are incredible. The author really knows how to get inside your head and make them all a part of you and not just characters in a book. I always get lost while reading her books and I enjoy every second of it.
We first met Brock way back when in the Assassin / Shifter books and the first impression we get is of a man whore. The more we learn about the people in the books though gives us a little bit of a better look into their lives. Looking at the good looking guy who everyone wants you would think he has it all, when really all he wants is to be loved. This book finally tells his story and it was more than I could have imagined, there is so much going on here that just makes you want to give poor Brock a hug.
We were also introduced to Zach a bit ago and his problems were astronomical, when the two get together it makes for a seriously good read. I love the connection to the Gods, and how we are learning more about the kids powers. The story is really coming together now and I'm hanging by the seat of my pants lol. Overall this is an excellent read and I'm rating it in at 5 hearts! I cannot wait for the next one....no seriously, I can't freaking wait!!!
The 12 Olympians series is a spin-off of the wonderful Assassins/Shifters series. The shifters have been brought in to guard the 12 demi-gods, who have been threatened. In Strange Addiction, we see the pairing of the son of Aphrodite with a wolverine shifter. Both are instantly attracted to one another, but the son of Love's active social life creates friction. Brock is searching for the love he was denied at his human parent's home, while Zack is searching for a sense of who he is. When they let their shields down, they find what they need in one another's arms.
This was a different type of novel than I was expecting as it centered more around the internal conflict than the external battles the assassins/shifters are usually engaged in. The Titan threat and fight scene were muted compared to the war of words between Zack and Brock, proving words can be weapons that hurt. But words also have the power to heal as Zack sets out to show Brock how he feels about him. The tenderness shown is incredible, especially having been exposed to Zack's gruffer side for most of the book. The book opens with a litany of names and who they are coupled with, so the book can be read as stand-alone. But the cast can be overwhelming. As much as I liked seeing some old favorites. I wish she would have streamlined it a bit. We did get a few first glimpses at some budding romances for future novels, which was fun to watch unfold. And some questions from the past were answered, allowing the story arch of the series to unfold, too.
Brock is the son of Aphrodite. He can make anyone lust for him, but what he craves, what he needs, what he has never had, even from his adoptive parents, is someone to love him. He wants the relationship, not just another meaningless hook up. The one person that seems to draw him like no other is Zack, but Zack seems to hate him and acts like an asshole. He can't figure out why he's "the one", but he is. He just hopes he can get to the real Zack before it tears him apart, all the while he and his group defend themselves against the Titans and their rogue army. Zack has issues with emotions. While he was in captivity they altered his shifter side and it makes him a little unstable. Selected to be Brocks Guardian, he finds himself battling his shifter side because his shifter dislikes the feelings he is having for Brock. Will he be able to gain control of his shifter side or will his shifter win, destroying any hope he can have a future with Brock, and destroying Brock in the process? This book was amazing! I absolutely love the series. I started book one and didn't stop till I was finished with this one. I can't wait for the next one to come out. I definitely recommend this book. This series is seriously addicting.
This is our Fourth story of The 12 Olympians and it was another outstanding installment. This was the story between Brock and Zack. Brock who feels that no one can truly see him is hiding all his pain in meaningless sex. This young man who seems to have it all, unraveled. Zack his guardian, who is fighting his own demons from his past doesn't understand why he is there until it's almost to late. These two men save each other from a world of private pain and misunderstanding. I thought this was a beautifully written story about how our own misconceptions about ourselves can lead to dangerous territory. Sometimes we don't see how others see us and how much we are loved. This story drove that point home and it was remarkable. I thought this was dramatically different but still what we have come to love about our Olympians. The relationships between all the characters and the fun was still very present. I loved this story. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS AFFORDABLE SERIES!!!
This is one of those books that make you wish there were more than 5 stars available. It's the fourth books in the 12 Olympians series and in my opinion the best so far, don't get me wrong the previous 3 books in this series as well as the Assassians/Shifter series they originate from are all amazingly fantastic books in their own right, but there is just something about Brock & Zacks story that just reaches out and holds you from the first chapter. It's more than just a work of fictional writing, it's also a message letting you know that you are not alone in your struggle, that no matter how bleak things may seem at the moment, there is hope and a helping hand around the next corner. Now I'm off to start re-reading the first book in this brilliantly written series with, A Marked Man.
Another cute story by Sandrine Gasq-Dion. I really wished the characters didn't fall in love so soon in the book though. The bulk of the story was them spending time together which made for a very simple plot. This series is extremely large and has pretty much reached its limit of originality. Basically the same story is retold over and over again. Also, Gasq-Dion really should put in a list of who's who at the beginning of each book. There are too many characters now it is very easy to get lost with the names.
With that being said, I am soo invested in the cast I cannot stop reading the series now. Even though the last few books were just okay reads, I must find out what will happen with the others.
