What I love about Chakras for Beginners is that it's both beautifully-written and spiritually meaningful, AND, it has practical suggestions on how to clear and open each chakra.

The chakras can be a complex system, and Pond clearly knows his stuff because he's able to fine-tune suggestions and descriptions in ways that are easily accessible, yet spiritually rich.

Though I've read many books and taken an intensive, year long class on chakras, Pond's book remains one of my favorites! This book is a gift to the senses and to our greatest well-being!

For a person who really isn't into the whole chakras, meditation, yoga whole get up, I must admit it was a good read. I thought that I would go into this book fighting everything that the author believed in. I was very defensive. But I must say it a pleasant learning experience for me. Do I believe EVERYTHING that was written in the book? No. But the general idea of it all is life changing for me. Teaching me to be a more positive, balanced, and calmer person.

Seeing as I have an older copy of the book, consisting only of 161 pages, I can only comment for my copy, though it has the same ISBN as the version pictured.

It's a bit of a dry read, one I was sorely tempted to skip to the 'good' parts, the section on the chakras, and even some of those were dry reads, actually I found the whole thing a dry read, but it's good info for someone looking for info on the subject. I haven't tried the exercises yet so I can't comment on those or the meditations. Still, it's an okay book.

A lot of folks might think a book like this is too wacky and New Age-y for them. But truly, it offers a clear, logical way to approach various aspects of spirituality and personality. Even if you don't really believe in chakras, it helps to imagine each segment of the soul according to colors. This book helped me sort out some messy stuff going on in my head. I can't promise it will do the same for everyone, but I'd highly recommend trying.

I have to say this was an eye opener for me... To see things from a different perspective... Looking at emotions as a form of energy that can be translated into stages of life, growth and development... I like the little insights into this middle eastern knowledge with a few christian view points... I feel enlightened already from reading this... makes me feel like maybe I'm not so far off the mark from where I should be at physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually... Gives me hope! ;)

This is the first book about chakra that I read. I'm very satisfied with the way the subject is presented here. The author also kept an open mind of the many different ways readers might approach this subject, which is refreshing. It is not patronizing, rather encouraging the readers to find their own way of understanding and working with their chakras. Definitely a book to be kept for a long time.

This is a great introduction to the seven chakras (or inner energy) with practical spiritual exercises, visualizations and meditations.

The techniques offered in the book will teach you to shift your focus away from the problem mindset and focus on realigning with the inner energy that is causing an imbalance.

Great for anyone looking for balance in their lives.

An excellent and readable guide for understanding the rudiments of the Chakras. Told in plain english. no steeping in mysticism here. Pond is quite eloquent.

I have the 2001 third printing of the original 1999 edition, which has an alternative cover than the one shown here on Goodreads.

When I read a religious book (and make no mistake -- this is religious), I rarely wonder if the author actually believes in what he's writing. However, I've got a feeling even David Pond didn't believe the bullshit he excreted here.

Why? The university he received his Master of Science Degree in Experimental Metaphysics, Central Washington University, asked him to help develop experiments to study metaphysical stuff like the chakras. He refused, because, as he explains in his preface, combining science and metaphysics would be "folly" as they "have different premises."

This tells me two things:

1) He's worried the University will take his degree away
2) All degrees from Central University of Washington are now worthless, since they'll give a piece of paper to anyone that pays them enough.

Proof of your claim is kind of important. The scientific method is the best tool we have of distinguishing fact from "folly."

I'd read the book the first time when I was a Wiccan/Pagan and had to learn about this for my religion. Even then, I was having a hard time with it. I mainly read this to know what the heck other books were referring to.

Fast-forward many years later and I'm an atheist. I thought I'd give this another go to see if reading it could clam down my anxiety attacks. It is written hypnotically, with phrases like, "Unbalanced Expression of Transcendence" (p. 90) However, it does rely on meditation. Although meditation helps many people, I am not one of them. In fact, I'm one of the few lucky sods where meditation makes me worse.

You could use this book to play mind games to help calm you down. Just don't believe any of it is true.

Simply said, you must let go of harmful behaviour that you are holding on to. Essentially, you depersonalise the issues by detaching yourself from them. As the saying goes, to experience harmony, let go of your need to be right.

Fear had its say in all the choices you make. Until you have developed the Witness; the capacity to discern the quality of your imaginary experience is not present. To practice the use of your spiritual will, you must first develop the capacity to discern the impact of your imaginative wandering on your energy field.

The measure of balance is found within you. Read your own energy.

Some people encounter specific entities in the imaginary realms that embody their own fears. These are akin to the nightmares of youth.

The ability to remain detached, while still being involved, gives you wisdom and insights into the meaning of life.

The unknown world is far more vast than the known world, and to become a visionary in consciousness you must be willing to enter into the vast unknown.

Há uns tempos que queria ler um livro destes; achei que este se adequava a alguém como eu que nunca teve a experiência de meditação ou algo do género. E não me enganei!

This was an interesting book because I’ve read about energies flowing through people through “the untethered soul” so I wanted to learn more about it. I though the book did a good job of explaining the different chakras. I didn’t agree with everything and I felt like there was a weird mix of relating to ideas on a very realistic, communal events based aspect and then it would bring in bigger spiritual ideas that weren’t really expanded on. But overall I enjoyed reading it and learning about chakras. One specific quote that I pulled was “All that unites furthers, all that separates hinders.” I also though the visualizations in the book were really good and helpful for understanding why we have certain problems in our lives and how to work on them at different levels of our being.

I was awakened to broadening my horizons as I read this book. I enjoyed the read and was like a sponge to take in the information to help take the steps to learn to balance my Chakras. It is definitely a great reference to have when needing to take time out for meditation and learning what to focus on. I have started to take the steps to making me more balanced and in tune with my surroundings

WOW! I read this book nearly 10 years ago and I still use what I learned in it multiple times weekly. Usually I like to read a lot of books about the same subject but after reading this I felt truly satisfied - it was both beginner friendly and a deep dive all at once! A decade later Im now hoping to read another book by David Pond seeing as how much this one influenced my practice! Thank you!

I can't recall how this book came to me, but it has been one of my go-to wisdom books for years now.
I feel like I've been able to use Chakra energy in my writing practice and my daily life since I first read and integrated the insights and practices found in the writing. Of course, since we are all just moving energy, this book may or not apply to you in the same way it has for me.

This is exactly what it says, a guide for beginners. I'd been interested in chakras for some time, and this book aided me in understanding and beginning to unlock my chakras. I really enjoyed the breakdowns of each individual one and the meditations provided for them. Great read!

I found this book at a $5 used bookstand, and I’m so glad that I did. I wrote all over the pages and really interacted with it. My sister and mom read parts of it with me, we all loved it so much.

"beginners" is a really gentle term to describe what this book is for. this is more aimed at the completely uninitiated, those 100% oblivious to alternative faith ideas. as a novice, what i would call a beginner, i found this book increasingly harder to follow as it went on. in discussing the higher chakras, Pond becomes very vague and fluffy, to the point i had to read passages several times over before they would stick in my head, if they would at all. not an author i'll look to again, not a book i'll probably ever go back to.

For such a small book, I am surprised how repetitive it was. Example: "Everyone has chakras. This inclusive statement should relieve those of you who are concerned about whether you have all of the chakras or not." Yes this book is for beginners but if we are reading it, I'm sure we understand the function of a sentence. Clearly that sentence isn't for people who believe they have chakras. Also I understand that all religion is connected, but chakras are not mentioned in Christianity. David Pond makes many references to Jesus, God, heaven, prayer, so it just becomes a little muddled.

It speaks about 7 different energies our bodies have - what they mean and how we can work through them when they are blocked. It taught me how to meditate and it helps me turn inward and listen to God more clearly. One thing I do not agree with is that the book says Jesus is only a prophet and not the Son of God. I can still take the truths in this book that I do believe coincide with my beliefs. It is just a different way of looking at spirituality - a new perspective.

This is a good introduction to the chakras, which figures prominently from anything having to do with Ayurvedic medicine to Yogic philosophy. Like anything philosophical in nature (particularly New Age philosopy), it is a slow read and I often had to reread paragraphs to fully grasp what the author was saying, and even then wasn't positive what the author was really saying. A useful chart and some guided meditations focusing on each of the chakras could prove useful to a limited audience.

Chakras were my last "new age" holdout until I read David Pond's astrology books and loved his warm,down-to-earth style and saw he wrote this book. If you want to know what chakras are about in a way most people can relate to, then this is your book. His essays at the end are intriguing too and his meditations/exercises? Not cumbersome and not freaky at all. :)

surprisingly compelling, even now, although at the time i knew practically nothing about the subject. it's still a reference i use in my practice. i especially enjoy the phrasing of certain critical themes related to moving energy in the body.

This book is a great beginners guide to understanding chakras. I still refer back to it and reread it. It's a very quick read and I also used tabs to separate each of the chakras.
It is a beginners book so it doesn't go into depth regarding the other chakras but covers the main 7.

A wonderful guide for beginners that describes clearly what the chakras are and how to work with them. Some guided meditations are given to help the reader work with each chakra. Very basic but still requires some time to read.
