The books starts out by talking about the seven major chakras, their etheric body location, and their corresponding physical body location. From there the book goes on to outline how they relate to the migration of etheric energy in the human nerve system. According to the book a healthy body/mind is when this energy moves through the various chakras in a certain order relative to the personality type. The charkas are as listed; Root, Sacral, Solar, Heart, Throat, Brow, and Crown. These energy centers, or portals, are gateways that receive a type of multidimensional life force from the higher dimensions. This substance is vital if life is to exist in this world. All things have their version of a chakra, from plants to planets. The next section details the traits a person develops as their chakras are opened, as well as what a person is lacking when his or her chakras are blocked and not functioning properly. When the chakras are open and receptive you have a balanced psyche, and when unbalance you have dysfunction and depravity.
The number of the chakras, seven, reinforces the mystery behind this most sacred number. The seven rays, or the seven spirits (Dhyan Chohans) before God also hints at its historical relevance. These rays or spirits correspond to the seven major personality types, Politicians, Teachers, Ministers, Artists, Philosophers, Writers, and Scientists. The text covers these personality traits, as well as their abnormal perversion when unchecked by prudent character development.
The book does well in describing what happens when one or more of the chakras are not flowing productively. One example the book gives is that of an ineffective throat chakra. When energy is not flowing properly, the results can be an inability to express ones self, not just in voice but also in any artistic endeavor. Another example the book gives is that of a block, or clogged solar plexus chakra. This type of person tends to put the needs of others before themselves, and they may be insecure and have not yet realized their self worth. By opening these energy centers, a more assured connection to a person's larger identity can increase psychic communication, and allowed the life force to flow unimpeded. Individuals such as Sadidthra the Buddha, Jesus the Christ, Muhammad the prophet, Guru Nanak, Zoroaster, and a host of other personalities that founded major thought systems, had these chakras opened to a large degree. When these energy centers are open and flowing optimally, there is virtually no difference between the soul and its fragment personality.
One interpretation of the chakras is that of the seven seals as spoken of in the Bible. Each opening of the seals was allegorically alluded to as a different wave of humanity. These different waves represent different types of consciousness manifesting as governments and the different challenges they face. This includes changes in the views of sexuality, technology, nation aggression, social migration, and all the other concerns facing an on going developing culture. Very often tribulations can accompany the changes that are necessary for growth, and these are the conflicts that we see throughout history, its all about who and what controls thought. The old must yield to the new in this perpetual cycle of becoming, because the only thing that is permanent is change. The book further goes on to talk about the different types of chakra healing such as, acupuncture, crystal healing, music healing, and hands on healing. With the crystal technique, one is to ware or place the appropriate crystal on the body to bring the chakra into alinement with the crystal's vibration. Remember crystals are the highest state of life in the mineral kingdom, and their vibrations are of a pure quality.
As to the hands on method, when a competent practitioner understands the concept of energy centers, and can feel the correctness of subtle energy patterns, they can unblock these eddies, and allow a flow that is more conducive to good health and well being. The concept of sound healing is explored such as the ideal that each chakra has a musical note associated with it, and by sounding that note you can produce a sympathetic response in the corresponding chakra. This is why music can have such a profound effect on a person. Depending on the vibrational tone of your being, different music can heal at the molecular level. When these notes are sung , spoken, or played on a instrument, profound trance like states can take place. This generation of sound/energy waves, is also the "science" behind other metaphysical phenomenon. There are also foods that stimulate the different charkas because of their inherent energy/vibration. By having a diet rich in these types of foods, your chakra energy can be enhanced.
The book then goes on to talk about the different types of meditation techniques involving color breathing. Each chakra has a prescribe color that loosely denotes its energy range. As you inhale you are to imagine a particular color imbibing your body. The color you meditate on corresponds to the chakra you are seeking to enhance. The author does well in outlining the basics of these techniques in hopes of stimulating further interest.
There is another technique that the book talks about, and that is to hold thoughts that corresponds to the various chakras, such as integrity, kindness, fortitude, forgiveness, etc. When this is done, the corresponding chakra expands, and vibrates in a way that makes it easier to have that thought/feeling again. Additional affirmations to stimulate the different chakras, and awaken the energies associated with them are listed. The text does talk a little about the living energy of Kundalini. It is well expressed in this book as well as others I've read, is that the premature awakening of this life force should be sincerely avoided. There are many prerequisite skills that need to be developed, and their true awakening must be done with "full competency". Ordinary chakra enhancement methods are safe and encouraged.
In the normal course of evolution, there is a natural awakening of these energy centers. What are called psychic powers are the results of this process. As in any system of development there are those who propel themselves ahead of others by their curiosity, fortitude and perseverance. These people become the pioneers who show a way by their presence and actions. When this is done en-mass, a tipping point is reached, and an new age will be ushered in. When these chakras are open to a practical degree, astral travel becomes 2nd nature, and the higher worlds become your extended playground. In future generations, this phenomenon or skill will be taught at the elementary school level. This book could be used as a source to develop a curriculum to begin to explore that possibility now.
Three companion books to this one are; A handbook on chakra healing, by Kalashatra Govinda, The Chakras, by C.W Leadbeater, and The Seven rays by Ernest Wood.
A very accessible and worthwhile basic experiential guide to chakras and working with their energy. Definitely a good resource for personal exploration but the scholar in me was rather frustrated by the self-referential bibliography, which listed as its only sources other works by the same author, published by the same press.
I use this book for reference a LOT, it is well organized and well written. Gives you the whole outline of what each chakra does and how you can support the energy in each chakra. Its great for someone who is just learning about chakras and as a reference if you want to look back and give information to clients or friends. Eventually I will remember every single page of this book :)
In my quest to find the perfect book regarding chakras, I came upon this one through a recommendation. The search continues. While it's not a bad book, it's not great either. It does have a lot of good, applicable information and it's an easy read. It starts by introducing the subtle energy system, discusses the functions of the chakras, and then gives a detailed section of each chakra. It concludes with a section on chakra healing. Each chakra section gives the qualities and attributes, influences, info on how to access it, meditations and a questionnaire. What I didn't like was it came across like there was a lot of pointless filler, but maybe someone else may find it of use.
New age non-sense. Chakras are actually mentioned in the Vedic texts and have a space in Buddhism and Hinduism, but this book follows the theosophical path of taking bits and pieces, recombining them, and then claiming ancient lineages that flow from pre-history through India, Rome, Judaism, and non-descript Christianity. Stuff like this gives a lot of non-mainstream spirituality a bad name.
This book is wonderful so far. Have gone through the first chapters on energy, basic chakra functions and their connection to the physical, emotional and mental bodies. Very thorough yet easy to understand.
Take your time going through the other chapters as they include physical associations, meditations and indepth questionnaires for each chakra. Treat it as a workbook for self-improvement.
Easy to read with great pictures. Loved seeing the Chakra symbols and colors accompanied by actionable knowledge I was able to immediately implement in my practices
Beautiful introduction to peace of mind. If your looking to understand how the mind, body and universe are all connected and how you can get closer to enlightenment, pick this up! This has literally helped me on my darkest days. That's what books are for, shed light on the dark and unknown path of life. I use this as a reference guide to enhancing spiritual journey and I have recommended this book to others, hoping they will find that same guidance. After all we are here to learn and help one another.
Wonderful color layout and in-depth exploration of the chakras including: age of resonance, associated shape, glandular connection, color, musical note, type of music, element ,aspect of intelligence, sensory experience, essential oil, crystals.... And much more for each. Also has archetypes, influences, how to access, affirmations, meditations and questionnaires for each chakra. It's beautiful and a hard copy is only around $20.
This book is what it is, a beginners guide to differentiating the Chakras. It tells you how we bottle up our energy and gives us meditations that are geared toward helping us release our inner energy. It is very repetitive and basic which was, in a way, what I was looking for. I would have given 5 stars if it had given a little more info on positioning for meditation, but I suppose that wasn't really what the book was supposed to be about.
I read this book for two reasons. I wanted to learn more about Chakras after I had a Reiki treatment at a spa and I wanted to figure out what the heck yoga teachers kept referring to in yoga classes. This book and learning about Chakras was totally fascinating for me. It has definitely taken yoga to a totally different level.
Simple and direct with only a few pages to detail the Chakra framework, this book was an excellent introduction to the field. I have benefited greatly from organizing perception and self-awareness based upon these centers of power.
nevr knew much about chakras, but this book is really accessible, & laid out w/pretty graphics too. think i'm gonna start paying attn to chakras & their uses frm now on....the info seems pretty sensible--especially when combined w/other holistic practices. hope to learn much more.
What a GREAT book! Filled with Illustrations XL sized book/Pages New to the System, Very Impressed - It covered so much!!! Loved how all the information was organized, a clear and descriptive read.
