FROM AUTHOR'S WEBSITE: I'm a native of central Maine, and grew up on a small farm with a wonderful mom and dad, three sisters and a brother. Most of my books take place in small towns, many of them in Maine.

My husband, Jim, and I moved to his birth state, Oregon, for a while after we were married, but decided to move back to Maine and be near my family. It allowed our six children to grow up feeling close to their cousins and grandparents, and some of Jim's family have even moved to Maine!

Our children are all home-schooled. When Jim retired from his vocation as an editor at a daily newspaper, we moved from Maine to Kentucky.

I've always loved reading, history, and horses. These things come together in several of my historical books.
Another longtime hobby of mine is genealogy, which has led me down many fascinating paths. I'm proud to be a DAR member! Some of Jim's and my quirkier ancestors have inspired fictional characters.

For many years I worked for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel as a freelancer. This experience was a great help in developing fictional characters and writing realistic scenes. I also published nonfiction articles in several magazines and had several short stories appear in Woman's World, Grit, and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.

I would like to start by saying that each book is a little bit better than the one that comes before. I think that this is partially due to how I feel about each of the female characters. I did not like the narrator of the first book, Elsie

There was too much going on with this book. First off, the first book in the series is the only one to not have a list of study guide questions. After reading the other two stories I would look at the discussion questions, and I did not personally feel as if it added any depth to the written story. Secondly the characters would take so long to question the information they had discovered. Its like you were just fooled a couple of chapters ago, who would you think is messing with you now? Thirdly for a series that is supposed to be a Christian romance, there is very little talk of how God in the first two books. God is only talked about in passing i.e. "Lord if this is your will I know you will watch over us...". The third book focuses on how God can change peoples and how they deserve not to be judged.

If you enjoy lots of happenings, American History, covered wagon traveling towards the west and lots of intrigue and romance then you will enjoy this lengthy tome, which I nicknamed my "bible". It's actually three books in one. It is an inspirational novel that I will definitely lend out to my church friends.

Though I usually enjoy stories centered about crossing the prairies, there was something off with the telling of this story. The narrator did not feel "real". Her character didn't ring true. There was too much that happened too hurriedly and everything works out from one sentence to the next. The characters felt wooden. "Oh look, there is a bad guy"! "Oh my, you got him"! "Now my Lady, can I help you with your corset?"

I really enjoyed this series of books. The original premise is a bit different, but these were a lot of fun to read. The characters were fun and I enjoyed the details the auther included regarding the trails west - she even mentioned the Utah War which is not something that is commonly covered when discussing the west. From England to Oregon and back again.
