Graves' Disease And Hyperthyroidism: What You Must Know Before They Zap Your Thyroid With Radioactive Iodine

Rate this book
Graves' disease is one of several causes of hyperthyroidism. In this book, Dr. Zaidi, a leading endocrinologist, describes how to accurately diagnose and treat Graves' disease as well as other causes of hyperthyroidism.

The medical treatment of Graves' disease has not changed in over 50 years. Sad, but true!

The standard, usual treatment with Radioactive iodine is a superficial, myopic approach. It almost always makes you hypothyroid (underactive thyroid state). Then, you need to be on thyroid pills for the rest of your life. In addition, radioactive iodine does not treat the underlying root cause of Graves' disease - autoimmune dysfunction, which continues to smolder and easily erupts into another autoimmune disease.

Anti-thyroid drugs do not treat autoimmune dysfunction either. They provide only temporary relief. Often, symptoms return once you stop these drugs.

Surgery also does not treat autoimmune dysfunction. It often leads to hypothyroidism as well as many other complications.

Over the last ten years, Dr. Zaidi developed a truly breakthrough approach to get rid of Graves' disease at its roots - autoimmune dysfunction. His patients have benefited tremendously from this approach. Now, its time for you to learn about this ground breaking discovery.

Dr. Zaidi reveals what really causes autoimmune dysfunction that ultimately leads to Graves' disease. His revolutionary treatment strategy consists of five components: His unique Diet for Graves' disease (including original recipes), the link between Vitamin D deficiency and Graves' disease, the connection between Graves' disease and Vitamin B12 deficiency, how Stress causes Graves' disease (and Dr. Zaidi's unique strategy to manage stress) and the Judicious use of Anti-Thyroid drugs.

Dr. Zaidi also explains: What are thyroid antibodies? What are the tests to diagnose various causes of hyperthyroidism? What causes Graves' eye disease and what is its proper treatment? How do you accurately diagnose and manage Graves' disease during pregnancy?

A worthwhile read if you have Graves disease . This at least gives you a second opinion on ablation. The concepts are repeated quite a lot and at times seem a little airy fairy but I think there is truth in the concepts. I am definitely going to try diet and exercise as well as supplements before I permanently kill an organ from which there is no recovery

Great overview of thyroid function, hormones and causes of global vitamin D deficiency.
Dr. Zaidi is insistent that the main causes for autoimmune diseases are worrying/stress, high carbohydrate diet and vitamin D deficiency.
He provides another way of treating thyroid that includes surgery only as the last resort and he oposes to both that and especially iodine radiation because people are left to deal with lifetime side-effects.
Instead, he treats his patients with high doses of vitamin D, change in diet and stress management with added anti-thyroid drugs for more serious cases.
I recommend this book thoroughly because it’s refreshing to see someone relies on laws of nature and balance instead of aggressive treatmants that offer easy solution at first but leave you worse than before.

He makes a strong case for not treating your disease the way that Western medicine recommends, and supports his theory of what to do instead. It is very straightforward and easy to understand, even without a wealth of background knowledge. The biology is well explained and includes some images.

Very informative

I recommend anyone who has Graves’ disease and love ones read this book. I was going to do the Radioactive Iodine treatment until I read this book. But not now. Get the book and leave your reviews.

If you have Graves' disease, I highly recommend this book. I found that my doctor was pushing me towards RAI, regardless of the fact that I have the beginnings of the Graves' eye disease, and without doing any antithyroid treatment first, which some doctors recommend to lessen the chance of a thyroid storm as a result of RAI. After reading this book, I knew the right questions to ask. She admitted that the antithyroid treatments have at least a 30% remission rate, which I think it pretty good as opposed to automatically taking a dose of high radiation and zapping a body organ. On reading this book, I found that I am pretty darn close to Dr. Zaidi's typical Graves' profile, with a vitamin D deficiency and a lot of stress. Now, maybe the suggested lifestyle changes, diet changes and antithyroid meds won't put me into remission, but then I can always do the RAI later. I am very thankful that I read this book!
