The Greek Warrior

Rate this book
July 1801. Not long back from Copenhagen, Courtenay is given command of the Hercules, another 74 gun ship of the line and sent on blockade duty off the French coast, where he falls foul of his old enemy Spencer-White, who accuses him of fighting under French colours. An old friend comes to the rescue to prove otherwise. The Peace of Amiens is signed, but rather than be thrown on the beach, Courtenay is sent on a mission to the Barbary Coast of North Africa where he effects the rescue of one of his enemies. Following this, Courtenay is sent with his ship as an 'Observer' to the French invasion of their island of Saint Domingo. There he plays a cat and mouse game with the French who seize the Royal Navy sloop which patrols the Islands. Courtenay is faced with the awkward situation of getting the sloop back, then, on his way to Antigua, he is faced by two French ships who are determined to stop him, even though they are not at War.

Multiple editing mistakes.

Swashbuckling adventures of a royal navy captain who always wins and who is unfairly oppressed by a powerful noble and navy family. They constantly change orders and official documents, send stupid commands, and, worse, send assassins to attack or kidnap his family.

And in every single book, the hero resists the attack, and the hero does nothing, at all. No counter attack, no killing members of the evil family. Just does nothing. It is boring by this point.

Average

This is just another dull read. Surely to God Spencer-White will not keep getting commands and foiling Giles at ever turn. I for one am sick of reading about how they keep terrorizing him and his family and how Giles doesn’t have the Balls to do away with them. Give me a break!

Fun story. Poor editing.

The series is entertaining with plenty of swashbuckling action. The author begins a more serious attempt at character development. The book is easy to read and the pages turn easily..

Another good story in the series

The story is well told. The inordinate number of errors in the grammar is distracting. I hope a good proofing editor can work on these otherwise good books.
