In a very real sense this is the book I learned mathematics from.

Oh, sure, I then went and got a degree in the subject. But this book is where I *started*. I did a lot of the exercises, learned some really idiosyncratic techniques which helped for getting a different perspective on how to approach stuff, and generally it got me thinking in a lot of the right directions.

It's a Schaum's outline of course, so it's more a general discussion plus a large number of questions than textbook, but it's still a great book.

Stay away from this book, or at least the third edition. It contains good mathematics but the absurd amount of typos makes it useless. They used some kind of scan-to-text software but it's a real mess.
