Matchmaking with a Mission

If Jasper Chase won't trouble himself to find a new governess, Evangeline Fairfax must find her employer a wife. That way, his children will be well cared for once she leaves to start a charity school. Jasper reluctantly agrees to a matchmaking house party with one condition-that Evangeline give him lessons in courtship.

Devoted to improving conditions at his mill, Jasper unwittingly ignored matters at home. Only now, as Evangeline teaches him how to win a wife, does he realize what it means to be a true father and husband. And if this independent young woman would just say yes, her plan could have the perfect ending...

Setting: Vale of Eden, northern England 1817. Had a spiritual
component.

5 girls met at a charity school for clergy daughters, which
provided insufficient heat, meager food, & shaming teachers.
Think Jane Eyre. All 5 eventually became governesses. This
was friend #5's story. Evangeline wanted to open/ supervise
a new/ improved charity school in a new locale.

Jasper, widowed cotton mill owner, lived in Vale of Eden w/
his 5 children, spent weekdays in Manchester and came
home on weekends. Why did wealthy Jasper resist hiring a
mill overseer in Manchester? He took for granted governess
of 6 yrs, Evangeline (Eve). His MIL & Eve planned a house
party for him to meet eligible women. Both leads demon-
strated their strong wills.

I liked that the Christian leads didn't act perfect or have all
the answers. This story had more angst than bk #1 and
didn't feel as emotionally satisfying. Jasper narrowed down
his bride search to 1 woman, before he realized his love for
Eve. Jasper should've let this woman down gently & with
more diplomacy.

Also liked the old-fashioned aspect of the story, where the
H refrained from kissing/ grabbing the h. Until he admitted
his love. Jasper said too many times "I reckon," which
seemed out of place. All 5 friends reunited at the end, all
were happy & felt blessed.

Ok, so here's the thing, I really wanted to like it, I really did. It's a good standalone that's 5th in a series, but really, it doesn't have that "hook".

The writing was good, I just wish there was more drama. I have another book in this series, and I'm hoping it's a bit more exciting.

I loved the children! They were so adorable. This is a good wind-down book since there really is no underlying plot that has you on the edge of your seat. It's an enjoyable story about realizing what you truly want and not needing to sacrifice yourself to get it.

"The Gentleman's Bride Search" by Deborah Hale 2014
(The Glass Slipper Chronicles #4)
Evangeline Fairfax was asked by her friends to start a charity school. She had told her employer, Jasper Chase, that he needed to find a new governess but he wasn't listening. So with the help of his mother-in-law she planned a house party (Bride Hunting Party). When Jasper finds out what is planned for him, he agrees only if Evangeline will give him some lessons in courtship.
Will Jasper see Evangeline as more than a governess? Will Evangeline give up her dream of opening a charity school? Will both need to compromise and change?

Today I finished the fifth story of “The Glass Slipper Brides.” Although there are only four titles listed for this series, the account of two separate governesses is included in the first book of the series – one novella and one novel. I have written detailed reviews of each of the previous books in the series, so there is not much to add here. Suffice it to say that each book in the series kept me involved and interested from beginning to end. I highly recommend Deborah Hale as an author to seek out if you enjoy Regency Romance.

This review is for books 1- 4 in the series. This is a clean romance series about a group of young women who after facing hard times in the past meet their matches and fall in love. Their stories are heart warming and engaging. I finished this series very quickly and enjoyed the reads. I will have to look for more from this author.

This was so good! The whole series has been, really. I had to stop for a while because I knew there was going to be a rough spot close to the end (and there was!), but I got through it and loved it.

The Gentleman's Bride Search

A very well written story with a plot and characters that keeps your interest. The five friends forced to attend a school for orphans of clergy go on in life to have successful marriages.

Finding love for the second time around.

Although this is the last in the governess’ finding husbands, I liked this story best about Jasper, a man of business, that realized you have to become vulnerable to find love, again.

A good ending

I am not a big fan of cliff hangers, but each story in this was encased as it’s own. With the cast of 5 ladies at the center of it. I will read these stories again and again.

Excellent!

Overcoming extreme adversity takes courage. Trust is necessary as is faith in ones own strength. There comes a time to let go to some extent and follow ones heart. It can be wonderfully rewarding to do so!

Deborah Hale's book entitled The Gentleman's Bride Search is the the fifth story in the Glass Slipper Bride collection. I reviewed the fourth book, The Duke's Marriage Mission, in February of this year. There are five books in this series, and each book follows the life of one woman--five friends in all. The other three books are The Captain's Christmas Family, The Baron's Governess Bride, and The Earl's Honorable Intentions. All five books are set in England during the early 1800's.

This book follows governess Evangeline Fairfax who comes to live at Renforth Abbey. For the past six years, she has been caring for Jasper Chase's children--Matthew, Owen, Rosie, Emma, and Alfie. Her goal though is to open a school for underprivileged children. Children like her who grew up in an school where she was mistreated, starved, and unloved for so many years. If it had not been for her close circle of friends, it is quite evident that her survival would have been grim.

Jasper does not understand her dream, because he wants her to stay and continue to be his children's governess. After all, why would she leave his children in order to care for others? Doesn't she know how much his children need her? After the death of their mother, Miss Fairfax had been a shining light for each of them--with the ability to pull the children out of their grief. In truth, Evangeline had come to be a comfortable part of their home. How would they survive in her absence?

Evangeline's plans to leave Renforth Abbey are constantly put off. Mr. Chase does his best to come up with excuse after excuse--reasons why she must stay. As time progresses, Evangeline realizes how much time she is losing in regards to building her school, and she knows her circle of friends are counting on her--her circle of friends who are already married, which is something Evangeline vows never to do. Marriage does not interest her. Her independent spirit would not allow it.

Jasper continues to think of ways to make Miss Fairfax stay, until Evangeline concocts another plan--the marriage plan. Miss Fairfax and Jasper's mother set their minds to find him a wife and a mother for his children. Evangeline feels this is the perfect plan to guarantee her escape into the life she believes the Lord has called her in to. However, both Evangeline and Jasper Chase will find themselves in situations they never considered as Miss Fairfax starts to envy the woman who will care for her children.

Will Evangeline leave Renforth Abbey or will Mr. Chase stop her? How will the children respond to this great change in their lives? And will the various women who come to Renforth Abbey--in the hopes of courting Jasper--be disappointed or vicious? Find out in this last book in the Glass Slipper Collection! I highly recommend it!

#5 Glass Slipper Brides

A great conclusion to this series. (I haven't actually read the first 2 books in this series, although they are on my list of books to track down!) I have really enjoyed getting to know this group of friends as they have overcome the struggles of their pasts and forged towards a bright future.

It was nice to finally get to Evangeline's story and find out more about her. I loved the interactions she had with her charges, her care for them and the responsibility she felt towards them. She didn't just up and leave them to start the charity school, much as though she wanted to get started on her new mission.

I also enjoyed the hero. He was a gentle, conscientious man. I loved that Deborah Hale's hero for this story was a cotton mill owner. That brought a different and very welcome flavour to this Regency story.

I also enjoyed their gently unfolding romance. It was very nicely done.

I also love the front cover!

#0.5 The Wedding Season Much Ado About Nuptials\The Gentleman Takes a Bride by Deborah Hale ~ Rebecca's story is in Much Ado About Nuptials, and is where the story of the school friends who become governesses starts. As it is in with another story by Louise M. Gouge and shorter than the others in the series, it is not advertised as being the start of the Glass Slipper Brides series.

The Glass slipper brides have all found their happily ever after and opened their school for young children. Evangeline has been trying to get Jasper Chase, her employer, to find a governess to replace her for several years. She finally decides to find him a wife and get herself out of there to open the school she and her friends have planned. The house party that brings several single ladies for him to chose from does not make Jasper happy. But when he spends time with Evangeline and learns why her school is so important to her, he decides he needs to do everything in his power to get her accomplishing that goal. Until he realizes that somehow, love has snuck up on him.

This whole series was very enjoyable.

Take one stubborn governess and one stubborn widower and prepare for a different kind of relationship! Only is a business kind of way, did Evangeline and Jasper have a relationship. When he came home for short visits from his mill, she helped him catchup with five children and their growth, needs and cares. And he thought that was enough...since he felt he was a social promoter of the poor in the town where he worked. But God had something more for him. Something more for the children, and definitely something more for the governess. But the Match-Making party didn't really accomplish it...getting to know each other is where love was found.

Nice little story. The heroine is governess for 5 children of a widowed mill owner, the hero. She's been trying to quit so she can go run a school for orphaned clergymen's daughters, but he won't even look for a new governess. So, with his mother-in-law's connivance/ help, she invites a bunch of women to visit so he can pick one to marry. And in the process, of course they come to realize who his perfect match really is. The story is low key and pretty slow-paced, but it's a good read. I liked it quite a bit.

Deborah Hale finisher the Bride Series saving the best for last. Ms. Wilcox would leave the home where she had spent the last 6 years and start the school that she and her girlfriends had dreamed of starting for underprivileged girls. Would she have a hard time leaving her charges that she had raised since their Mother's death as her own or is it really their Father that is so hard to leave. Read and find out.

Really enjoyed this last book in the Glass Slipper Bride series. This story is about a handsome mill owner who has five children. His governess has been with the family for six years, but has a dream of running a girl's school. She devises a house party to try to find a wife for her employer to take the sting out of her leaving, but it doesn't go quite as she expected.
