What others are saying about WRITING TIME! . . .

Was I surprised to find Mike Dellosso actually quoted me in the very first page of his latest e-book, Writing Time!: “I could write a book if I only had time.” Problem is, Writing Time debunks that personal little myth and does so in a way that inspires attainable change and shines a professional’s practical light on just how to overcome that age-old excuse. Add in a little humor and Writing Time could just be the fuel you need to finally start, AND FINISH, that first book!

Mike Dellosso packs a huge amount of practical ideas and information into this ebook. The greatest gift of this piece, though, was the honest way he plowed through the typical excuses that people use to avoid writing. As I was reading I could easily picture him sitting across from me sharing his writer's heart and encouraging me to move beyond the roadblocks so that I could experience the success and joy of writing. I recommend it for everyone wanting to take the "plunge" into writing. You won't be disappointed.

Great little book

Mike seemed to enjoy sharing his passion of writing. I can relate to the fact he was called to be a writer and how he has to arrange his day so he can write. Excellent quick read.

I downloaded this book during a free promotion period. It's a very quick read (33 pages per Amazon). I found it a little like reading a series of short blog entries, with ideas provided in very broad strokes. The main advice I saw on actually making time to write is to get up early in the morning and write then. To finish what you start, he mostly says to figure out why you're writing and set deadlines for yourself. To set deadlines, decide on a deadline, then figure out how many words your novel needs to be, and how many words per day that works out to. To make sure you hit your deadlines, set up some sort of small punishment for yourself and have someone hold you accountable. I think he implied editing will take a month (which means he writes a lot tighter and/or edits a lot less than I do).

It's not a bad little guide, worth it if it comes up free. But Dellosso certainly doesn't offer any shortcuts (and in fairness, I don't know of any easy ways to write a book). Instead, I took the book to say "Writing is hard work, but figure out a reason to write and make yourself make the time to do it." It's not bad advice, but it may disappoint people wanting easy answers of how to make time to write.

I always enjoyed creative writing in school and have been kicking around the idea of writing something. If you're like me and you're not even sure why or what you'll write about yet, this little book is great! It's a quick read that's narrowed down to the most important things to consider if you're thinking about writing. It's a perfect little tool....or compass to help point your feet in the right direction and give you a gentle push forward. The rest is up to you!
