Someone close to our protagonist Dr Shekar has died at the Preeti drug testing centre. The state of the art facility managed to cover it up. This sets Dr Shekhar on the hunt for those who were responsible. He joins Ishwari wellness clinic, the parent hospital of Preeti drug testing centre, in the hopes of finding evidence to expose the founder and chairman Dr Ratnam.
Our second protagonist Preeti Ratnam is a young computer science student. She is smart, fierce and heir to huge fortune. All these doesn't shield her from all these nightmares of the images of the blood soaked man. She might have killed someone and gotten away with it. She doesn't know what to believe, she doesn't know what is fact and what is imagination. Driven by guilt and fear, she suffers a great deal. To make it worse there is no one in her life who could help her with it. Until Dr Shekhar.
Together both of them face a dark past threatening to unravel everyone involved.
We also have characters like Dr Ratnam and Dr Nandini, whose motives are ambiguous. Are they unwitting pawns or true masterminds behind everything wrong in Preeti's life?
This quick paced mystery, is full of schemes, twists and turns. As we read further and further, new questions are raised as soon as old ones are answered. Every character is so secretive and mysterious and looks like they have their own goals, good or bad.
This book also explores mental health and the stigma it still has in society. The lives of doctors, those who care for their patients and those who are corrupt. It also discusses ethics and technical aspects of the field.
I loved the interactions between all the characters. Their ideals and goals clashing with each other. The investigative parts of the story is also well written and deductions are intresting. I liked legal aspects of the story as well.
On the flip side, I wish there were more Preeti's POV chapters. I also didn't feel complete closure with the ending. I felt there are still some parts of the story that are left untold.
Overall It's a good whodunit mystery thriller that manages to keep the reader wanting for more.
P.S: The backdoor pilot to the character Rajiv Suri is also very interesting. I hope to see more of him in the future.
