With blood on his hands and a knife beside his bed, Leo can't remember what happened last night.
But he remembers her. Jessica... if that was even her real name. He remembers their date, and afterward going back to her place. He remembers the strange music she played, the distinctly foul drink she made him, and the numerous occult keepsakes decorating the walls of her apartment…
It’s coming back to him now. But the more Leo recalls, the more he wishes he might forget.
The gothic manor. The deranged family residing there. He can still hear their chanting. He can still feel their cold hands upon his body, and their dark magic worming its way into his mind. He remembers what they did to him. Worse – he remembers what they made him do.
And tonight... they’re going to make him do it again.
Abe Moss has been writing horror stories for as long as he can remember, and hopes to never stop. He loves creature-features, psychological horror, supernatural horror, cosmic horror, you name it. With each book he writes, he hopes to try something a little different. The possibilities are endless and that's what he really loves about storytelling. He hopes you'll enjoy his stories, too!
From page one, this story had me hooked. The initial introduction to the MMC had me speculating on just who Leo would be as a character, some hidden side of him that only comes out at night. Little did I know that I wouldn't be too far off, but not in the way I was thinking. Leo's whole world is turned upside down. Every time I thought this is it, Leo will finally be free, another twist and turn would unfold. The story was fast paced, keeping me wanting to read more and more. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a suspenseful, terror-ridden, multi-coven plot.
Wicked Was The Night by Abe Moss was hands down my favorite book this month! I picked it based on a random Kindle recommendation, and to be honest, that gorgeous cover! 😍 But it had me hooked through the nose from page one! It starts out almost fever dream like, but you are quickly immersed in a secret world of witch societies riddled with ancient feuds and age-old curses. Further complicated by love, spells, and family secrets. I could not put this book down! I will definitely be reading more Abe Moss!
This book started out very interesting and scary - I was relating to the main character very well - but then the story took a big turn and it turned into something else. And that was OK as I read fantasy too.... But I really didn't care for the endless feuds that are the center of this book. Its just not my thing really.
Also on page 299 Leo (the main character) is told that he just needs to "show them who he is". Well I don't understand how he can do that when HE doesn't know who he is. And that is the main reason he was chosen at the very beginning for the role (A victim) because he is so uncertain about everything. And he doesn't know anyone. That makes him easy prey for the others in this story. Because he is that way. Which means he has no idea who he is or what he wants. Because of how he was raised. And I don't mean he is just an orphan. You can easily be raised by your birth parents and still not know who you are if their desires override yours. And I think that is where Leo is. He is scared to do anything or try anything and he is a bundle of anxiety. Which is why I relate to him. But he should have trusted his instincts at the very beginning and gotten out of there. You have those instincts for a reason. Of course then there would be no story.
I read the entire book but the plot didn't actually hold my interest too much. There was too much strife. And the big reveal near the end didn't do anything for me either. I know this book is very popular but it doesn't hold my interest.
I think I find the basic premise in here kind of weird. Like why are they all in that one town? I don't get it.
Wicked Was the Night is a must-read for anyone who enjoys both T.J. Klune and Jeremy Robinson. This is the perfect eclectic blend of cozy fantasy and dark horror.
The first 100 pages of this novel are wildly unique and interesting. Wicked Was the Night has one of the most memorable and thought-provoking introductions I've ever read.
I was provided an ARC of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Leo went on a first date and his entire world was turned upside down by the end of the night— and not at all in the way that dating app enthusiast hope for.
Somehow, he found himself tangled right in the midst of a tangled web woven by a couple of rivaling witch families, and the results are…
Well, I’ll let you pick this dark and wildly intriguing page turner up and learn the rest on your own.
There’s a lot going on in this book, and you’ll struggle to tear your attention away from the story within.

I liked this book, even though it isn't what I would typically go for. I'm not big on magic in my books - no hate towards it, of course, I just don't tend to seek out plots that revolve around witchcraft or magic. The book popped up on my Kindle Unlimited recommendations, and I was interested in it because of the horror elements (and the pretty high ranking on here).
I will say, the plot didn't really hold my interest. As fun as can be, I did kind of get frustrated with how quickly things were happening and how many characters and intertwining ideas I had to keep in mind. The characters would have an idea, the idea would fall apart, they would somehow stumble into another idea, and then have to run away and there were never any lasting consequences. I do think that the book would have benefited from being longer, but I don't think the rapid pace was too detrimental to my enjoyment.
The characters on the other hand? They made the story for me. .
All in all, this is a book that I was surprised to like as much as I did.
3.75 for wicked was the night. I think I started off on the wrong foot believing it truly to be a horror read but it was more fantasy/paranormal to be frank. So when it had a bit of a genre change as the story unfolded, I struggled to reset myself. Though it presented some splatterpunk-esque elements, I don’t know if horror was the right way to sell it, and the synopsis was a bit misguiding in what I was about to find.
The writing did take some time to get used too as the start it was a bit clunky. Very “and then, and then, and then.”
It honestly reads at time like a sequel in the series (I had to check several times to confirm no this is a stand alone,) and then at times I feel it would have been perfect for the debut in a series for it to be expanded upon. The ending seemed a little rushed and too tied up with a bow.
I think if you go into it thinking it’s more of a gritty paranormal/fantasy you may enjoy it more.
I absolutely loved this book. It had the exact amount of horror, gore & witchcraft that I was hoping for. It snared me from the first page. I loved the pace, the descriptive narrative & secondary characters. It’s about these feuding clans of witches that control the city. It’s a long standing feud, especially between the elders. The youngest in the clans just want it to stop. The elders are contracting this vile terminal illness & no one knows how to stop it. Enter Leo Miller, a null, a sock puppet one of the families decide to utilize to even the playing field. What happens on this fateful night is horrifying & fulfills a destiny for Leo that he never saw coming…I highly recommend this book.
This story started off a little slow for me. Trying to learn all the covens and their powers, along with the characters. About 1/3 of the way into the story, things really started getting good. The battle between the witch families was intense. A little bit of a reality check on various ways of thinking we are raised with even today. It's so easy to assume things about others with or without knowing the full details. Lots of action, characters (although only a couple of main characters) and some horrific moments as the battles continued. This is a different kind of book from Abe Moss, but still an intense read. Enjoyed learning about the characters and their coven's powers. Satisfying ending.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Abe Moss leads us on yet another wild ride! In a small town, unbeknownst to Leo, there is a war raging between several covens of witches. It has been going on for many, many years. Leo is new to town and finds himself smack dab in the middle of all the chaos. Is there a way to end all the hatred? Or will the old ways win? What an interesting take on witches. I greatly enjoyed the story and the characters. The ending was a little abrupt, so I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that there might be more to come from this tale. Abe Moss is just getting better and better with every novel he writes. So do yourself a favor and read this book! Highly recommend!
Abe Moss- hands down, my most favorite author.... another great read! I love the initial confusion of "WTH is happening to this poor man??" Lmao 😂. By the Light of His Lantern, also Abe Moss, (my most favorite book EVER) had me feeling that way- I love it! I loved all the characters & was pleased with how they came together. Made me think of how the world is today (on a much bigger scale, obviously) & I hope younger generations will see the uselessness in racism/religious hatred & learn to get along. I had cheesy expectations for the ending- I'm glad I was wrong LoL. Overall it was a fast paced & well written story & I was happy with the ending!
I simply love reading Abe Moss' books! I'm always so captivated from the first chapter and can't wait to read it all!
This book was a little different from the spooky ghost story "Restless Ones" and the crazy ride of "Morsels" but captivating none the less. I honestly felt like I was watching a movie unfold as I read and I love that!
This story kept twisting and turning and kept me guessing. The MMC & MFC are both very likeable and you can really feel their emotions. The book started off as a date gone wrong and transformed in to a lifelong fued between families that caused chaotic conflict throughout the book.
Abe please keep writing so I can devour everything you dream up!
Leo is new in Rook's Landing and his date with Jessica leaves him disoriented. He wakes up all bloodied holding a knife. Why can't he remember anything and why does he have no control over his body? He finds the town strange and it is rumoured that the town is controlled by witches - and the covens are at war with each other. Will Leo survive their machinations or will he remain a helpless pawn in their game of power? An entertaining and enthralling book with fantastic world building and well defined characters. I enjoyed reading this page turner.
This book was so good. The night started out well with Leo having a date with Jessica but when he wakes the next day there is a bloody knife by his bed. As he slowly starts to remember things, pieces of the night coming floating back to him. He remembers occult memorabilia on her apartment walls. Slowly with horror he realizes what had happened and the horror of knowing that it was going to happen again. Abe Moss writes this genre so well. Every book has mystique and supernatural elements that draw the reader in. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
Leo fairly new in town working from home has a date with Jessica. Along with uneasy feelings about her, about the whole date and she talks him into her home. It's nightmare's fright.. I love the Author And Moss for his addicting books I can't get enough of. I like the fright, the uncertainty, the terror, th unknowing what is on the next page you turn. If you like Terror, Mystery, Fright, you will love this and Abe Moss's other books too.
I enjoyed this book! In the beginning, I was a little confused (but I think it was my own mind wandering around in other worlds 😂). If I was Leo, I know I would be losing my dang mind! This book has many twists and turns to always keep you wondering. It is also quite fast paced and written in third person. This is only my second horror book I’ve ever read, and I’m ready to read more and see what else Abe Moss has between the pages of his other books!
I absolutely loved loved this book there were so many twists and turns;I didn’t know which direction it was heading one minute you think you have figured out nope wrong indeed never seen a lot of the twist that we’re coming and if you love horror as much as I do and watch and read enough of can guess easily what will happen but not with this book it was a hard one to figure out and kept me on edge every bit of the way it was hard to put down :)
Wicked Was the Night is another solid horror story from Abe Moss. It’s a quick, easy read with a great eerie vibe that pulls you in right from the start. I really enjoyed the buildup and creepy atmosphere throughout. My only minor complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed—it wrapped up quicker than I expected. Still, it was a fun and suspenseful read that horror fans will definitely enjoy!
This was a solid read. This is the first time I have read back to back books by the same author. The premise of this story was intriguing along with the dynamics. The writing style is great and so is the balance of the supernatural and horror elements. If you are looking for an epic ending, you won't find that. Other people have disliked the ending, but I think it is fine.
I really enjoyed this horror/dark fantasy book! I’ve never really read anything horror and I’m glad this was my first. Written in third person. No spice. There’s some gruesome content, witches with dark magic, faced paced, twists! It was a great horror adventure for me!
Abe has quite an imagination and I always look forward to reading his books. They are unique. I cculdn't put it down, but didn't want it to end. Highly recommended. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Have read several Abe moss books now. All of them have been good stories in there own right. Wicked was the night is the best so far .Great storyline fast paced action good characters and lots of blood. Hope there's a sequel
I've read everything Abe Moss has published and I mark my calendar every time a new release is announced. Wicked Was the Night did not disappoint! Hope that this great group of characters continues into a series.
Having loved every word of Into The Dread Void, I was highly anticipating this read! It did not disappoint. It is dark. But it is good. And it is pretty hard to see where it ends up from where it starts. It’s a wild ride!!!!
If you like the hyper feminine vampire type books and tv series you’ll dig this. Miss is a good writer, I just don’t get much out of this type of stories.
