Every woman can accentuate her God-given beauty using the hidden treasures of the ancient Scriptures.
Ginger Garrett reveals how every woman can accent her God-given beauty using the hidden treasures of the ancient Scriptures-where every scent and every act of beautification had spiritual and emotional significance.A woman's longing to present herself as physically beautiful is universal. Beauty is extolled throughout the Bible as complementing God's plan for women's lives. There are currently no books that examine the beauty practices of biblical women, the plants and products God created to accent their beauty, and the spiritual roots of feminine rituals.Beautiful women abound in the Queen Esther, the bride of Solomon, Delilah, Rachel, Sarah, and more. Their beauty was a gift from God, and God also supplied the many foods, spices, and oils that perfected each woman's appearance. In Beauty Secrets of the Bible, Ginger Garrett helps readers accent their God-given beauty using these secrets.Women who read the book will understand the essential oils and fragrances mentioned in Scripture (and why they are making a comeback) and will be able to create a regimen based on all-natural ancient products and techniques. Beauty Secrets of the Bible gives readers what other beauty books the knowledge that a woman's unique earthly beauty is indeed a blessing from God that can be cultivated.

This is my first review at Goodreads, and, I guess, first book review ever.
"Beauty Secrets of the Bible" appeared in my life a year or two ago, as a Christmas present from close male friend. I was surprised, and embarrassed a little - does he think I'm not beautiful enough, or I should change something in my appearance? Now, looking back, I want to smile: I couldn`t know then that it was meeting with the most unusual beauty book in my life.
To be frank, I skipped the first part, wishing to get practical advices. First impression from reading made me turn a little sceptical. Olive oil? Milk? Are you serious? But something inside me whispered : "Come on, why don't you try?" I tried. That made say "Wow" when I looked at the mirror after honey face mask and coconut oil for hair. And this "Wow" appeared almost every single time I tried something new from Ginger`s book. Of course, some of recipes weren't perfect for me, but made me start to search in right, natural way. My skin and hair were just grateful for such care.
After realizing, what a wonder this book is for me from the outer side, i returned to first part. And was happy, because week or two with this meditation topics changed my self-esteem in a better way. I finally found acceptance of myself, of my flaws, shapes and colours. Nature is wise.
"Beauty Secrets of the Bible" was the best Christmas present, that I could have. And it deserves to be seen and read by all girls and women. I believe in this so much, that it made me write this review in foreign language (yep, I'm ukranian, and writing this was a true challenge. Excuse me my mistakes)
If you are looking for present or just want to change something in your care - you should read it!
I have used the facial cleanser recipe (oatmeal, almond meal, dried goats milk) for years and it has kept my skin clean and healthy. The author is positive and encouraging. Non-judgmental.
I received this book through the post yesterday, after ordering it from Amazon, and already, even though I have not yet read it from cover to cover, I have found it to be a beautiful blessing in my life. I read the devotionals for day one and day two and skimmed through and read parts from each chapter. The beauty advice found within the pages of this book is healthful, wholesome, natural and full of common sense. For instance, Ginger recommends making the commitment to NEVER GO ON A DIET AGAIN! What a lovely promise to nurture yourself with. In fact as a book as a whole, I feel peaceful when reading it. I would compare it to giving my soul a spa treatment! My fear around food seems to dissipate, as I feel these are messages God wants me to have, along with all His daughters who seek true beauty from the inside out.
I began using the food principles of eating MORE food (fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean protein) rather than less, and using food (olive oil) on my face rather than shop-bought products that are full of chemicals, and already my husband has commented that I look healthy! That's not even a full day of incorporating this new approach! Amazing. I'm also loving the sections about the history of women and weight loss, which to me is fascinating and enlightening, and the way Garrett really connects us to our ancient sisters of the past.
I am also enjoying the way she weaves Holy Scripture into the format, reminding us that, yes, God has given all foods for us to eat! Something I seem to have forgotten or over-looked in my quest for health, beauty and regulated weight. I had even bought into the lie that some foods are sinful, and some saintly, and that somehow, God was judging me based on what I ate or failed to eat. I had turned my Heavenly Father into the diet police :( . I had also separated my search for beauty from my relationship with God, feeling it was self-centred, self-indulgent and forbidden. Now I'm starting to return to the the truth that GOD IS BEAUTY! He is the Author and Creator, of real, forever Beauty, the wholesome kind that I'm after. And because I am His child, made in His Image and Likeness, I am beautiful by birth-right! Life-changing stuff. Not only that, but I have been made beautiful again by being forgiven and found.
I also have the sense that I am returning to something, rather that trying something new: returning to a place of peace surrounding food, health and beauty, returning home to be at peace with myself and my Creator :)
Beauty is at the heart of every woman--our ideals of beauty, how we feel about ourselves, and how we perceive others. Ms. Garrett has included 28 short devotionals about different aspects of beauty. I have not finished reading them all, but the ones I've read are very powerful. The last half of the book deals with beauty topics (skin, hair, fragrances, etc.). These sections explain how our ancient mothers cared for themselves and how we can implement their beauty secrets to create a natural, healthy beauty regiment. I already use a number of all-natural beauty products, but this book has inspired me to continue to expand my collection. If this book interests you, you would probably enjoy "There's lead in Your Lipstick" by Gill Deacon. This book takes a blinding approach to the chemicals that we lather, spray, swipe, and massage into and onto our bodies.
This book was okay. I went back and forth between rating it a 3 or a 4. I went with 4 because this information was much more relevant in 2007, when this book was published. We have come a long way in 13 years. Due to consumer pressure, companies are making a better effort to put healthier products in the marketplace. Books like this probably helped that revolution happen. The main message of this book was encouragement to make healthy choices all around.
I've had this book forever, and it's amazing. A great deal of my lotion and fragrance recipes came from this book. I only use a handful of the daily rituals but it's sort of situational, too. Great read and reference book for healthy alternative lifestyles.
The book started with a 28 day devotional looking at the definition of beauty. The beuty care portion was a little outdated, as many of the topics covered have happened as the author suggested they should. I am still considering if I want to incorporate some of Ginger Garrett's homemade product recipes into my skincare.
I love this book! I sat down and read it in one day. Although I’m going to go back and take my time to read through the 21 day devotionals. I loved it! There are so many healthy tips and recipes and I’m so looking forward to making them!!
I really like this book. Created several of the cleansing recipes for myself. I let a neighbor borrow it and unfortunately she let someone else borrow it and so on. Word to the wise, don't let others borrow your good books, give them the ones you don't want.
Valid points, good info but written almost as a college paper. It was originally a magazine article. Part one is a devotional. Part two is the book. I enjoyed the recipes. Simple but useful.
This is a wonderful book. I would have given it 5 stars but some of the information is outdated now. (More about this below.) I was very encouraged by the devotionals and will incorporate many of these affirmations into my life. Her writing is refreshingly catchphrase- and hype-free. There are good recipes for preservative-free and nourishing beauty products. If you are willing to make small batches of skin care and properly store them, this is the way to go. Of course, there are many more safety and health conscious brands on the market now. Thank God there has been a consumer movement since this book was written. Other changes since publishing: Ginger Garrett's website no longer has information to host "Beauty Secrets of the Bible" parties, some of the companies in the Resource Guide are no longer in business, and there are many more companies that provide safer cosmetics. What seems to be timeless is the Environmental Working Group (EWG) that rates products based on safety of ingredients and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (which has helpful guides on ingredients). I use both these websites regularly.
I really liked this book. It was different than I expected. The book starts out with a 28 Days of Cleansing devotional, which I liked, and then goes on to tell "beauty secrets". There are recipes for moisturizers, healthy snacks, etc. An interesting read.
*I did not get this book for review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
This is great book. I use the natural products that she talks about and there is nothing like it. My skin has never looked so good. Even my husband notices. And all of the products are natural and are found in your grocery store. Wonderful read!
I absolutely loved this book. I would recommend it to anyone trying to avoid chemicals, parabens and revert to a more natural approach to skin and beauty care.
