1840's Alta California is on the verge of revolution. The Mexicans struggle to keep their gracious life-style, the Indians have sworn to defend their tribal heritage. Both are doomed by the inevitable war with the colossus to the east. America is determined to reach the shores of the Pacific. In this turbulent land comes John Clinton Ryan, an adventurer, a seaman, a man who must learn the ways of the vaquero if he is to survive.
First of all I have to say I liked this story and I recommend you read it.
BUT, as a life-long heavy reader (averaging 200+ books a year); minor spelling errors, words missing in a sentence, homophones (Polk instead of poke, etc.) all combine to aggravate me to throw my tablet across the room. Thankfully, I have it in an industrial strength cover.
Having no idea of how much of an effort or cost it takes to publish a "book" v2.0, I'd still do it.
Most of the books are ok. Lots of action, chases, gun play, and few curses. Not being a Spanish speaker, many terms and titles for people made it hard for me to keep people and places straight. The story about the grizzly was the one I enjoyed most. Would be good to know how things turn out for Billy and the ranch.
Enjoyed reading these books about Clint Ryan. I felt we was left hanging about Client's ranch and the safety of his friends. Also about whether he married the young woman he kept thinking about. Hope there's another book to tie up the series. Love reading this author's books.
