With a fresh new look and added content, DK Reader Level 3: Star Wars®: The Story of Darth Vader follows the life of one of the greatest villains as he rises to power.
Level 3 is for children able to read on their own. The stories are exciting and captivating in order to develop the child's own desire to read. More text and more complex sentence structure are presented, with information spreads to help develop the reader's general knowledge. The choice of subject widens to match the broadening of children's experiences and interests.
This is not really my review but was dictated to me by two 4 year olds I read with often. I decided to keep their five star review instead of downgrading it to three stars. Anyone interested in reading this book is probably going to find Trey and Paxton's tastes more relevant and helpful than mine.
From Trey: I like Star Wars 3. I like that part when Anakin gets in hot lava. And I like the part when Obi Wan gets in a fight with General Greivous. And I like the part when Anakin and Obi Wan gets in a fight with Qui Gon Jen.
From Paxton: I like the part when Qui Gon Jen and Obi Wan fight Darth Maul. I like the part when Darth Vader gets in hot lava.
The Story of Darth Vadar drew my son in so fast I suspected the Force was at work. He really enjoyed the very bright, colorful and clear photgraphs-before and after reading the book. He read the book in a couple of sittings as it had to compete with learning to ride a bike for the first time. He reported to me that this book was "like a movie in my head". This is something he experiences with the books he likes the most. The story begins when Darth Vadar is just a little boy, Annakin. It takes you all the way to his death and conversion back to the,uh, I forget the word, the "good side"-I'll have to ask Thomas what the proper term is. Thomas will also right a review on his own Goodreads page but until he's a little more eloquent in type, I will continue these mom-reviews. This book is a level 3 but I would have assigned it a 4 or 5 rating. A younger kid would enjoy it because of the great photo-illustrations but the reading won't be comfortable for anyone less than the AVERAGE 3rd grader (ish). My son is a 2nd grader but likes to read so much that he went from Bob Books (fat cat sat, etc) to level 2's in one school year. That's seems pretty normal to me but some kids learn to read slower or faster and it really doesn't indicate much about their future of reading. I try to provide him with books for his pleasure which usually means the reading level will not be as challenging as story is good. I strongly believe in this approach for young boys. I don't wanna be one of those old biddies who ruins reading for kids by forcing them to read Milton in the 3rd grade. So, my Thomas has all the Darth Vadars and Captain Underpants his gross-out loving little boy heart can handle!
Evelyn (age 8) says "I love this book because I like Star Wars and the battle in Star Wars. This book is very interesting, and my favourite character in Star Wars is Princess Laya and I like the Jedi's. This is a really good book, I recommend you read this book, instead of watching the movie, maybe you should just read the book because the book is fine for little kids."
Alice (age 5) says "I like this book because only Princess Laya is in Star Wars and she's my favourite and I like the travel bit that's a baddy or good guy. I like this book, it's the best book, you should read it much. Some people haven't readed it, it's a really good book so if you want to read it, read it because its about Star Wars and that's the best".
Evelyn reminded Alice that she hasn't even watched Star Wars.
Nichola/Mummy "I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea what was going on in that book".
it is comix. i dont really think it is good for old people. But it is OK. it was is really quick book. I dont like books like that because it´s to much pictures. And short story. I read books like novel, detective story. like Verne or something else. But yea it´s was Good. It´s book for young people. I take this book because i need to try it.
Unlike Mutige Helden this was much more of a story, telling the downfall of darth vader. I did find it harder but was at least able to follow along because I knew the story, and learned lots of new words. Like the other one I'm going to read it many times till I've learned all the vocabulary words.
Obvious and simple minded hahaha. Could very well be a summary of Star Wars or a simple guide when you want to introduce your friends Anidalala land without sounding like a total maniac like me.
1 star off because the passage saying that Sidious tells Vader that he's Luke's father could misinform general public. Sidious did not tell Vader, Vader wasn't ignorant of the fact either. Actually, they hinted at each other that each of them knew but was modest about it because they each would attempt to find Luke in order to get a new apprentice in order to whack another in the back because that's what Sith Lords do.
Finally! A book of Darth Vader that's accessible to kids and easy to understand since it fills in pieces in the Star Wars six-ology of his life as Anakin Skywalker, his mistakes, his broken spirit and ultimate triumph over himself thru the love of his son Luke. It clears a lotta stuff up and I do appreciate the story even better, tho' ultimately it should be about the shared journey of Luke and Darth on their discovery of each other and themselves.
This is a great book for beginner readers who want to learn more about the world of Star Wars and most importantly, Darth Vader. Filled with great stills from the movies, the reader will read about Darth Vader from the beginning to his demise and rebirth. A great book for reluctant readers and anyone wanting to learn more about the world of Star Wars.
Darth Vader wasn't always Darth Vader. Once he was Anakin. Basically this book just tells you about the characters and what happens in Star Wars. It doesn't really say what they said, just how they felt and things like that.
I liked this book because it is about Star Wars.
[read and reviewed by a 7 year old, typed by his mama]
This book suffers from too much information syndrome! Instead of being a great story about Darth Vader it is almost encyclopedic in the way it describes Anakin's journey to the Dark Side. My boys lost interest and they love Star Wars.
Everything that little Darth Vadar fans need to know in easy reader format. Ahhh, can you say happy little 1st/2nd grader? Only complaint is the easy reader paperback format falls apart way too quickly.
Pretty lame, but my nephew will love this. It goes through the entire (as of yet) Star Wars saga to help explain Darth Vader and his milieu. This will be a little above his reading level, but I think he will work hard to read this because he is interested in the subject matter.
Kids this is perfect for you! You can read it in like ten minutes or less and it has some games to play, I mean, who doesn't want to know if you would be a Jedi or a Sith? Fun book.
