4+ stars. I love the Virgin River series, the stories work for me on so many levels. While each book has a unique hero and heroine, and some are more entertaining than others, we can always count on visiting with many of the town folks from previous books, hanging out at Jack’s bar, and seeing what Preacher is cooking for dinner. I honestly feel like the main characters are real, three-dimensional people that I consider friends. Crazy, I know, but I think that is what appeals so many readers to this series.
In Hidden Summit we meet several new characters, including Connor and Leslie, the H/h of Hidden Summit, Katie (Connor’s sister, and heroine of the next book) and her young kids. There is a new guy name Walt who rides a Harley, and I think we’ll see more of him too. We also meet up again with Nora Crane, the heroine of the upcoming Sunrise Point. You will remember her from ‘Bring Me Home for Christmas’ as the young mother abandoned and alone in a broken down home with no heat, refrigeration or food.
Connor, aka Danny, is hiding in Virgin River in the Witness Protection Program. He witnessed a brutal murder by a powerful businessman in Sacramento, and soon became the target of death threats. When his family’s Hardware store burned to the ground, Connor and his sister separated and both went into hiding with new identities. Connor takes a job with Paul Haggerty working construction, and soon finds himself undeniably attracted to the new office manager. To his own surprise, he finds himself going out of his way just to see her.
Leslie desperately needed a new start away from her cheating ex-husband and all his drama, so she leaves Grants Pass, Oregon to take a job in Virgin River with her old friend and co-worker Paul Haggerty. Emotionally beaten from years of trying to please a husband who only focused on himself, she finds life in Virgin River to be the best decision she ever made. While not ready to start a new relationship, she can’t help but find Connor’s charming antics at wooing her utterly irresistible.
The romance between Connor and Leslie was so utterly charming, I just loved them. These two sold me 100% that they belong together. They had me laughing and smiling quite a bit, and when things got steamy – well, they got steamy! Robyn Carr’s books are not centered around sex, but when it’s appropriate she doesn’t close the door either.
The story unfolds with Connor getting ready to testify, and his struggle with not being able to tell Leslie his true identity. As his feelings grow and he realizes he wants Leslie in his life forever, the struggle gets deeper. I won’t tell you how it was resolved, but I will say I thought it was done perfectly. This is how a great couple works out issues.
Leslie’s ex-husband is quite a clueless character, and makes several unannounced (and unwelcomed!) visits to VR in hopes of keeping a friendship with his ex. Through this we learn why Leslie needed to escape Grants Pass, and why her self-esteem was so low. To see her give her ex just what he deserves was great to watch! I loved how she got her backbone and wouldn’t cave under the pressure.
While we see many of the VR regulars, this story was nearly all focused on Connor and Leslie. There wasn’t much of a story arch for other characters, just a few introductions. I can’t wait to read more about Connor and Leslie to see how they are doing. The ending did leave me wanting more. Overall, another great read for Virgin River fans.

One of my favorites from the series! No over-the-top drama from these two, (other than two crazy exs!) and they both needed a normal, loyal person in their lives. There was some great fire between Leslie and Connor! Robyn Carr doesn't make every page about sex, but what she does write is usually super hot, in a real-life sort of way.
I was thrilled when Leslie stood up to her ex-husband, without the help of any man, and I was pleased at the way Connor dealt with his ex-wife. Boy, did she have some nerve at the end!

Hidden Summit es el libro numero quince de la serie Virgin River creada por la autora Robyn Carr y tiene como protagonistas a Conner y Leslie, dos nuevos personajes.
Esta novela tiene una trama un tanto diferente a las de los libros anteriores, no es una gran diferencia o un cambio muy brusco, solo pequeñas diferencias que hicieron que la lectura me pareciera mas interesante, en mi opinion fue un gran acierto, ya que asi la saga no te parece tan repetitiva, algo muy comun en las series tan largas como esta.
La historia de Conner y Leslie no es la mejor de todas pero es entretenida y rapida de leer, aun no se muy bien que es lo que me gusta tanto de estos libros pero creo que en parte lo que atrae a tanta gente es que son muy sencillas, sin tramas rebuscadas o giros inesperados, son simples y a veces lo simple es lo mejor.

4 ½ stars – Contemporary Romance
This is a great addition to the Virgin River series. I really enjoyed the romance between Conner and Leslie, and the inclusion of several key players, including Jack, Brie, Mike, Paul, Preacher, and Dan, as well as some new characters, showcased some of the strengths that have made this such a great, longstanding series. I’m looking forward to Katie’s story next in Redwood Bend, and I have high hopes for Nora finding her HEA in Sunrise Point.

I LOVED this book! The town opens their arms only like Virgin River folks can and soon he is a member of the community and has his eye on a gal who just happens to be new too.
Leslie has some issues she needs to let go of mainly her ex-husband who just can’t seem to get why she doesn’t want to his be best pal.
I loved this book, I loved the characters I loved the drama free environment. I can’t wait for more.

Audiobook: Narrator - Therese Plummer
I’ll listen to anything by this narrator but especially when it comes to the Virgin River Series. She doesn such an amazing job of really bringing the characters as well as this little town to life.
It’s been a while since I’ve listened to anything from this series and I was sooo ready to dig back in. And what a great book to do it with. This has two characters that were absolutely perfect in my opinion. I loved that despite being broken and hurt in the past, they were both capable of trying again even though neither thought they’d ever do so.
I have to admit that when Leslie’s ex comes around, not causing your usual drama which was refreshing, I found myself laughing at the way she handled him. The drama Connor is facing is dark and rather scary but it really doesn’t kick in until closer to the end. Of course the reasoning for that is completely understandable.
This has several of the friends from Virgin River, obviously, but this book didn’t rely on the past books to carry it. I do believe it could be read as a stand alone. However, if you feel you should read a previous book, read book one and meet Jack because he’s pretty much in every book and he’s a hoot sometimes.

Not bad. Between 3.5 and 4.0, I think. This was the second book in the Virgin River series in a row that Carr has focused almost solely on the main couple. Unfortunately I felt that it caused some padding in the form of repetition in this case. The characters kept telling the same information over and over. To different people, of course, but it was still the same thing being played out again and again. We actually could have used a couple of side stories in this one.
But I loved Connor and Leslie. I loved that they got together and had no calculated temporary break-ups. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt and "tidy", but overall it was a decent installment.

Not one of RC's standouts, but still very entertaining with some hot moments and a little suspense. Two new and very likable characters come to Virgin River, each have had life changing experiences, and manage to fall in love. Expect to see Jack, Preacher, Brie, Mike, Dan Brady---even Noah...all the usual suspects (but no Mel). Full review closer to release date.

Another good, solid romance in the series! I'm enjoying the journey. And while this one didn't give me the warm fuzzies as much as previous books, it's still an opportunity to visit with the wonderful people of the small town called Virgin River. Just what I needed at this moment in my reading life!

4.5 stars. Loved it! Classic Virgin River, and not only to we get a few new fantastic characters, we had plenty of our old favorites, most notably…Jack! I really enjoyed the relationship that developed between Connor and Leslie. They had similar history with exes and therefore they related to each other very well. Leslie was funny, determined and wicked with a fire extinguisher, had no fear taking matters into her own hands. Connor had it for her bad and he heated up the sheets with her pretty quickly, the boys got skills! He was a protective brother, uncle, and I found him to be very humble and oh so sweet!
As always Jack’s bar is the hub of the community and it’s always fun to visit and hear what he’s got to say. He doesn’t always give the best advice, but I love hearing the boy talk. Of course where there’s Jack, Preacher’s not far behind, always true to character, quiet yet lethal. I can’t get enough of them. Brie was Connor’s contact while he was awaiting trial, so it was nice to catch up with her and Mike too.
I was disappointed with anticlimactic conclusion to the story. There was so much build-up leading to the trial that I thought that we might see a heroic ending involving Connor and the VR alphas, but it didn’t play out that way. I love a good man hunt!

This book made me want to move to a small town...
As a rule I try to read books in a series in order, however this book had a river on the cover... and it started with a H, I'm sure all my reading challenge obsessed friends will understand.... anyways, reading this book out of order did not change how much I enjoyed it... now I am intrigued to read more books in the series, to get the backstory on some of these amazing characters... this book was about Connor and Leslie, both are running from their past, both for very different reasons... loved Leslie, she had a lot of sass and spunk, I especially loved some of her interactions with her ex-husband, her extremely odd ex-husband.... Connor is a good guy, with a big heart especially when it comes to family, he is just got out of a bit of an odd situation himself... together they definitely worked, and because this is romance you probably already know they all live happily ever after.... now the debate do I go backwards or forwards in the series??? The next book is about Connor's sister, and from what little I saw of her in this book I'm definitely interested in reading that...

Another great addition to the Virgin River series. I enjoyed the newcomers Conner & Leslie's story. There was sizzling steam between these two and my only complaint was the quick ending.
As always when I finish a VR read, I find myself wanting to visit and stay awhile with these old friends:)
Thank you Robyn Carr for the mention of a very serious and deadly food allergy, peanuts. I lived my life unaware of the dangers of food allergies. I had no idea what families suffered and endured. Now, having a four year old grandson with this disease has changed everything! It only takes a very tiny portion of peanut protein to cause severe sickness and death.
The doctor's motto has been imprinted on my brain and it is one that we live by --- "Peanuts are poison and the only antidote is an epi-pen"
There are so many children and adults who suffer from food allergies. Thank you Robyn for helping bring awareness and education!

Robyn Carr has a formula in these books. One big, strong, handsome man is lonely but may not realize it, and ready for love but certainly doesn't know it. One sweet, good-hearted, petite and beautiful woman who wants a man that is ready for real commitment. They both find themselves in Virgin River - often with friends in common The rest is history. They fall in love, and start planning their future children. The books are sweet, cozy, warm. Nothing here will surprise you, but they will entertain you. You get what you are hoping for here. Good people who fall in love.
My biggest complaint about this series is that because each volume involves a new romance, the characters I really care about are virtually nonexistent in the future volumes. I would love if there was more follow up on the characters who are already in Virgin River.

Another entertaining installment. I adored both Conner and Leslie. Thankfully, there was no over the top drama. As always, I enjoyed seeing old favorites and learning more about new characters.

Please note that I gave this book 2.5 stars and rounded it up to 3 stars.
Ack. I don’t know what to say. This was kind of the beginning of the end of my love for this series. This book had a really ludicrous plot and the resolution to it was kind of laughable to me. I did love the female lead, but the male lead, no, not even a little bit at all.
Leslie Petruso moves to Virgin River to get away from her ex-husband and his new wife. She knows Paul Haggerty due to her working for his father, and she ends up going to work for Paul as his office administrator in Virgin River. The many reasons why I loved Leslie, because she goes after her ex twice in this book, and both times had me howling with laughter. I have had that whole let’s be friends after being dumped by a guy before. I wish I had went after him with a fire extinguisher. I also adored Leslie’s older parents who are still out there doing what they can to enjoy their lives. Leslie’s mom’s comments about her ex had me laughing too. Honestly anything just dealing with Leslie, her family, and ex worked. I did have a bit of a problem with Leslie in the end pitying her ex, he was and is an ass.
Conner Danson…boy oh boy nope. I don’t want to spoil for potential readers, but I have no idea why this was in a romance book. For a minute I thought I was reading about a Lifetime movie that I could have sworn had the same plot. And Conner and his comments about women to himself…ugh. I just didn’t like the guy at all. He has a tie to another Virgin River character (Brie) and I hated their scenes together. He acted like an ass and I wanted Brie to kick the crap out of the guy. I also hated that most of the story deals with Conner lying to Leslie, but she gets over it in like two sentences.
We are introduced to Conner’s sister Katie who will be the star of the next book and also we get a lot of looks at previous characters from the series.
I don’t have much to say unless I spoil the book, but Conner’s whole story-line was the main reason why I just gave this 2.5 stars.

2023: My verdict stands.
Normal slop for this series with the added insult of resolving the perilous situation for the hero with a simple, ridiculous twist that makes everything come out okay. And I don't consider that a spoiler, because this is Robyn Carr's world, where inevitably, that's how these end.

This is one Virgin River book I was ever so slightly hesitant in reading, unlike the previous books in the series the characters in this installment were both completely 100% new to the series and Virgin River. I love that we usually have an idea of at least one of the characters in the books are like before we get into them so things were a little different. Not in a bad way though, it was nice seeing some new blood in Virgin River.
As always Robyn Carr did a really great job in creating both Connor and Leslie. Both are new arrivals with no long term plans for staying in the quaint little mountain town and both are trying to escape some pretty rough situations and neither counted on falling in love with each other or the town. There's Leslie, office manager extraordinaire, trying to get away from her weirdo ex-husband and Connor, who is in Witness Protection after witnessing a crime and coming forward. Strange circumstances brought them to Virgin River, and while they didn't seem like they'd work at first I really did come to like them as a couple.
Connor was very sweet. He would literally give the shirt off his back to help someone and he has the biggest heart. However, he's no pushover and gives Leslie just enough resistance so that she can't always have her way (though she gets it pretty often where he's concerned). He's funny and charming and while I thought at first that he was a bit too much of a goody goody I'm pleased to say you don't want to cross him.
Leslie, was a great character as well. After the muck up of her marriage to a complete idiot I can see why she wanted to pick up and move on. I just wish that she stood up for herself to her ex-husband (whom we meet) much sooner than she did and as much as I liked her I felt that sometimes she over thought things and got in her own way too much and that kind of detracted from the story.
I enjoyed seeing the usual cast of merry characters and hanging out at Jack's Bar again felt like I was coming home and having a nice catch up with some old friends. I enjoyed seeing everyone again and I loved how they extended the classic Virgin River welcome to both Connor and Leslie who needed some good folks to have their backs.
This Virgin River installment had more twists and turns in it than the usual ones what with Connor being a witness to a murder and Leslie being harassed by her ex but it was a refreshing one nonetheless. My only complaint with this one is that I wish Leslie wasn't the forefront of the story and that Connor was. Leslie as much as I liked her character was a bit too woe is me at times and that detracted from the story a bit.
I would recommend this one to fans of the Virgin River series who haven't read it yet and to new fans. Each story is self contained and a little bit of backstory into the town and its inhabitants are always worked into the books so if you want this can be read without reading the previous books. If contemporary romance with a great setting and wonderful characters and lots of laughs are your thing pick this one up as soon as you can!
As always Robyn Carr did a really great job in creating both Connor and Leslie. Both are new arrivals with no long term plans for staying in the quaint little mountain town and both are trying to escape some pretty rough situations and neither counted on falling in love with each other or the town. There's Leslie, office manager extraordinaire, trying to get away from her weirdo ex-husband and Connor, who is in Witness Protection after witnessing a crime and coming forward. This book was a delightful addition to the Virgin River series. As always, it was wonderful to have glimpes into the beloved characters of the previous books in the series. The two main characters in Hidden Summit were both likeable and had me rooting for them from the beginning. The storyline was interesting and entertaining, and I'm so glad that Netgalley gave me the opportunity to read and review this one.
Leslie Petruso is trying to recover from the breakup of her marriage, and is not successful when her newly remarried ex keeps turning up wanting to play the role of her best friend. She decides that a move to Virgin River to work for Paul Haggerty, whose family has employed her for years, is the change of scenery she needs. She's not looking for a relationship, but quickly meets Connor Danson and is immediately attracted. Connor Danson is in a very difficult situation. He innocently witnessed a murder, and by coming forward with what he saw, has become the target of a dangerous man. It is heartbreaking to Connor when the law enforcement officers who are trying to protect him separate him from his only family, his sister and her young twin sons. He is certainly in no position to fall for someone, but meeting Leslie puts a crimp in his plans to lie low and wait to testify. As Connor waits and worries over the safety of those he loves, he becomes closer to Leslie and fears what her reaction will be to his situation.
Hidden Summit was a wonderful story. I loved reading about the developing relationship between Connor and Leslie. They were both great characters, and it was nice to get to know some Connor's sister, Katie, too. Several Virgin Rier regulars turned up in small roles, and as always, it was wonderful to hear about them. This latest Virgin River installment was another hit for me.

I just love this series, it is like comfort food for me. Hidden Summit just moseyed along, nothing earth shattering, but it wasn't boring. I haven't read a bad book in this series, they are all just so cozy and good. I have noticed in the last 4 books that they are starting to get a little more tame with simpler story lines as the series goes on, but tame is still good when it comes to VR.
I thought the H&h were good people that you could identify with, both came from bad relationships and arrived in VR to escape their previous lives. They weren't looking for love, just peace. Leslie was a pleaser and had a crazy ex-husband that killed her self esteem, but wouldn't release her from his life, so she left. Connor was such a noble, good guy. He was the type of person you hope your sons grow up to be. He was a hard worker, took care of his widowed sister and her twin boys, and witnessed a murder by accident. He stepped up to testify, even though he was threatened and his family business was burned to the ground. He moved to VR under witness protection until the trial. I listed him as a beta hero because he was so kind and gentle, but towards the end I could see the Alpha coming out it him as he stood and took care of what was his.
My only criticism was the ending; it was pretty abrupt. I had 4 pages left, just hitting the climax, and thinking this can't be it. There were so many things unsettled and they were sort of left unsettled. I mean of course there was a HEA, but how did the town react when Connor returned, what kind of job did he have in his future, what of his sister...and many more. I know there are two more left in the series and I am sure, from past experience with the series, that all things will be answered.

Sadly, this was my least favorite Virgin River book. The writing was so jagged and rough it was hard to keep track of transitions. There were so many transitions that I just had to laugh at. They were absurd. The hero says something like "let's go be romantic" to the heroine, and the heroine says, "Let's have fruit and waffles for breakfast tomorrow." Seriously?
I wasn't really fond of the hero either. He came off as rude and angry in the first chapter, then as kind of a big lug dumb construction worker for the 1st half of the book. He does get a little better as time goes on, but he never really proved himself as this great hero.
I'm just really, really hoping that the next 2 new Virgin River books are good!

I adored this Virgin River series installment. In fact, Leslie and Connor’s story, will go down as one of the more memorable ones for me. Each of Carr’s books in this series has a formula to them for sure, but what I enjoyed about this story, besides the budding romance, was the fact that the climax of the secondary plot was unique and surprised me. I didn’t anticipate some key scenes near the end and that was refreshing. Connor and Leslie both come to Virgin River for a fresh start, one by choice and another by force, but what I love about this series holds true in Hidden Summit - the slow build up of the romance, the in-depth, spectacular character development and the small town togetherness. I love how this town rallies together to help their own. I always love how Carr dives into each main character’s past and shows the reader what experiences make up who they are. Part of the fun in taking the journey with each character as individuals and as a couple. The trope is an interesting one in this one, and I loved reading about how Connor comes to terms with a situation that is beyond his control. Brie plays a big part in this installment and readers get a glimpse into Dan and Cheryl’s relationship. Even though Dan and Cheryl didn’t have a full book written for them, it was nice to see them happy in life. A definite gem for me.

To me the Virgin River books are a bit like comfort food, you know what you are going to get, they make you feel good and you always come back for more. This is the 17th book in the series but Robyn has reinvented it by infusing it with new characters, which allows new readers to jump right in, even if you haven’t read the other books.
Hidden Summit is the story of Conner Danson. After an unfortunate event where he ended up the only witness of a murder he enters the witness protection program and the DA sends him to Virgin River to lay low while they wait for the trial to start. He has to leave everything behind, including his sister and twin nephews and get a new job working for Haggerty Construction. Needless to say he isn’t happy about it.
On the other hand we have Leslie Petruso. After a bitter and humiliating divorce where she was forced to make nice with his ex and his new pregnant wife, she decides that she’s had enough and moves to Virgin River to work for -you guessed it- Haggerty Construction, whose owner, Paul Haggerty, is the son of her boss and an old friend.
Conner is the first to notice Leslie but at first he thinks that she’s having an affair with Paul which he thinks is for the best because a romantic relationship would only complicate things even more. He feels strongly attracted to her and the feelings are mutual so they end up together. But their lives are anything but normal, Conner’s life is at risk, as well as everyone’s close to him, and Leslie’s ex is back to cause trouble, so they have a difficult road ahead of them.
I will be the first one to admit that at one point I considered quitting the series, but then we started getting new books that focused on new characters instead of the old ones. Is not that I didn’t like the original Virgin River cast, but it was getting old. For the past six or seven books things have been different in this town, and I’m very glad, not only because the new characters brought new life to the series, but also because it’s easier for new readers to get into the series without having to read the previous books. A series with 17+ books can be daunting for any reader.
Hidden Summit was interesting because the main focus of the book was the leading couple. The town and the secondary characters are part of it but they don’t overshadow Leslie and Connor’s journey and love story. I also liked the fact that they were adults that knew what they wanted, so despite having a somewhat short courtship the romance was believable.
Both Connor and Leslie were very likeable. I found a lot of similarities between them: they were family oriented, lonely, focused and hardworking people. It was almost a match made in heaven because they were perfect for each other.
The ending was very surprising. I think that a lot of people will have issues with it because in a way it was anti-climactic. I actually liked the fact that Ms. Carr didn’t go the predictable way, but I think the ending was rushed and almost too easy. This wasn’t a romantic suspense but if you’re going to add a touch of suspense to the plot at least make things more difficult for the characters.
There’s also the fact that Conner jumps right into the relationship despite numerous warnings from the people trying to protect him. He knows how dangerous it is to be close to him but yet he doesn’t have any qualms to pursue Leslie.
If you’re a fan of the series you will be happy to know that most of the beloved characters from previous books like Jack, Brie, Mel, Preacher, Mike and Paul have cameos and even secondary roles. So the touch of nostalgia is there but if you are a new reader you won’t find it confusing at all.
Overall this was a lovely book, with the familiar style of a great author and a strong addition to the series. A must read if you are a fan and a good place to start if you are new to Virgin River.

I will admit that I went into this one a little leery. The main couple of the book were people that we haven't meet before and in past books those haven't always been my favorites of the series. I think because they seem like such outsiders and we don't get to see the past characters that I have grown to love. But those favorite characters really helped the story line and the characters blend into the community.
I felt so sorry for Connor, he tried to do the right thing and got is life taken away. He was so angry and bitter at the start that I honestly didn't think that I would warm up to him or like him at all. But as he discovered who he was without the past weighing him down Connor grew into a great guy and took to life in Virgin River.
Leslie, like so many others who have come to Virgin River, came to escape. Granted she was in a crappy situation and the new start was just what she needed. I hated her ex-husband right from the start for his actions to Leslie, as the story went on I started to feel sorry for him as he was just pathetic. I loved when Leslie finally found her back bone and stood up to him with a little help from her friend, the fire extinguisher.
The relationship between these 2 was great. Neither was looking for anything and were brutally honest with each other and themselves with their expectations for what was happening between them. I loved how they both realized how the town would take an active participation with their relationship and how they each slowly integrated themselves into the community.
The one thing that I hated with this book was the ending. It was so abrupt. It seemed like we were missing more, I wanted to know the town's reaction to Connor and why he left.

Very good book. When he came to Virgin River to wait to testify, Connor was so angry at everything that had happened to him. Leslie was happy to be there because it got her away from her ex. Connor went to work for Paul and rediscovered his love of working with his hands. He also started to get to know Leslie. She found that the more time she spent in Virgin River the more of her old self she got back. Her self-esteem had been very low thanks to her ex. There were several times he showed up in Virgin River, trying to convince Leslie that they could still be friends. I loved the way she dealt with that. She and Connor didn't intend to fall in love, but the more time they spent together, the closer they got. He was even able to tell her why he was there. I loved seeing characters from previous books.

Gotta love RC! I won't go into it, as there are a lot of great reviews already on this book (not to mention I only have my iPhone right now), but the ex-husband alone made it worth my while...What a narcissistic nut job - LOL! A lot going "out" there, but definately NOTHING penetrating the void between his ears! Of course RC wove a great story as always ... But the Ex deserved an honorable mention!

These books are the perfect "getting into the holiday spirit" type of read. They have a quaint, almost Hallmark-movie type feel to them that leaves me feeling uplifted. That said, I don't think I'd have the patience to read them, as they're not as couple centered as I prefer in my romances. However, I've loved listening to them as I go about my day.

I love visiting Virgin River! Robyn Carr never disappoints and I enjoyed this tale of two wounded people reaching for a second chance.

This was another good book by Robyn. I am still enjoying this series and like to get to know the new characters while still keeping tabs on the old ones.
