Outer Limits meets War Of The Worlds meets The Twilight Zone in this novel of alien suspense. This book has elements of all three--Outer Limits for gore, War Of The Worlds for alien terra-forming the earth and Twilight Zone for the surprise finale.
In War Of The Worlds, it's the germy atmosphere that killed the aliens--human patience would be our greatest quality while waiting for the microbes to perform their job. In Day Of The Triffids, salt water killed the evil, poison plants, though plain water accomplished the trick in Signs. Numerous times exceptional old fashion warfare provides optimal results, though frequently we lose.
The people in Cry don't have a magic solution against the invaders, though they're able to find something the aliens avoid and that's liquor. This makes a pleasant day for alcoholics! Drink and earn a pass over on one of the alien's drive by searches, stay sober and turn into a disgusting blob.
If aliens destroyed our world by terra-forming and changed the entire ecosystem where the world is imperceptible to humans and there isn't a large amount of oxygen left for the few survivors--extreme sadness would permeate all humans. Then to find out that the aliens turned our bodies into a bloody...... This review is from my blog at: http://somanybooksssolittletime.blogs...
Starts with a bang, ends with a whimper. Strange things are afoot in the small town of Finleyville. Unearthly storms come at night, and people are dying in a horrible way. Where the bodies lie, trees and plants that are not from this world spring up, changing the atmosphere. All around, cities and towns are falling to the the alien force. The only way to stay safe is to stay hidden, stay quiet, and stay drunk. Results: this book started out very well, but I can't say I cared much for the twisted ending. Still, it's worth reading.
I love Jackie's writing style. I find it to be really engaging and the characters are so very well written. I loved Rita lol. An old drunk lady who is pro at canning surviving the end of the world? Honestly, I liked all of the characters, even Randy's high maintenance ex-wife. I also enjoyed the entire premise of the story, mysterious storms, creepy noises, the need to stay silent....I have 2 children and a smokers cough...we would be screwed lol. and, of course, then ending surprised me. It wasn't the "happy" ending I expected...
It was his turn to go. Forty-three days since it all started, and they were hitting the bottom of the barrel with supplies. Randy didn’t mind going. In fact, he preferred to be the one. He was faster and more agile than Grant, who was pushing sixty. Grant made the first trip out. They were good for a while, but as time moved on and nothing changed, the supplies dwindled. A week beforehand, Grant went out. He returned with little news and lack of hope. What was out there? Randy was about to find out.
I love this authors books. I found her quite by accident but I’m a fan now.
This is a sci-fi, apocalyptic story. Twilight Zone meets Independence Day. So freaking good. The characters are written perfectly. I adore most of them, but that is in any book. And alcohol..😂😂 That’s all I can say on that. You have to read it to understand what I’m hinting at. 🥃🥃
Buy this, today in the new year. And weekend is coming real soon. On to the next book.
This was an interesting book, though with some editing issues, particularly with punctuation. The buildup of the mystery of what was happening was quite good. I'm not sure that I believe that governments of the planet could hide the knowledge of extra-terrestrials, build bases on the moon and develop advanced technology and keep it all quiet. Still, the alien attack was unique and I enjoyed the story up until the very abrupt end. It felt unsatisfying and didn't do the story justice.
Wow. This book/ I read it straight through. Suspenseful, scary, has my mind racing in a million directions. The author has the biggest imagination ever! I’ve read 10 of her books so far and each is so different from the other. I’m hooked. I need to know more about YOU Jacqueline Druga!
A different kind of apocalypse. This could be right out of "The Twilight Zone." Definitely one of Druga's more imaginative works. I definitely recommend it to anyone who's getting tired of the usual zombie/EMP/pandemic fare. A good standalone story with a resolution that will not disappoint.
At first, I was a little hesitant to read this because I didn’t know what to expect. But I needed to read something different from my usual. I love this plot, the characters, everything about this story! 10/10 from me.
She really led me on a wild trip ... from an alien invasion to 'all ye who enter here, be lost' ... then BOOM! The grand finale in just a few pages. It would've been a truly fantastic sci-fi novel, with rich narrative descriptions and a few hundred more pages but I feel like the story was just stopped far too soon. Expand the story! That's the only reason I gave it just three stars ... it ended too soon.
This was an awesome book! Stayed up later than I should have two nights in a row reading it. The ending was a little strange Reminded me of one of the old classic Twilight Zone episodes. Having read many of Druga's books, I have to say, it was not at all what I was expecting. Virus...plaque...bombs...definitely. This? Nope...didn't see that coming.
Overall, really enjoyed this. I love Druga, and am so, so glad I stumbled upon her stuff. Definitely recommend.
After a strange storm people start dying but a group of people discover why. The story is then over pretty quickly. It feels like an introduction to a book or series and almost like an overview. This has a lot of potential to be fleshed out and a follow-up of if they choose to live, escape or fight. Worth a very quick read though.
Not my kind of story. I don't care for alien invasions, zombies, fantasy type end-of-the-world stories. If I can't imagine it actually happening, it's not for me. The ending reminded me of a Twilight Zone episode that I saw [maybe not the Twilight Zone, but I saw it somewhere!]
