069- Essays Composed during Illness-Shi Tiesheng-Essay-2002
Barack

—— "I opened a book and a soul awoke."

" Essay in the pain", first published in China in 2002. An essay collection. It discusses some eternal topics in life, such as life, destiny, love, faith, etc.

Shi Tiesheng, born in Beijing in 1951, died in 2010. In 1969, Shi Tiesheng returned to Beijing from the rural Yan'an in northern Shaanxi for treatment of lumbar and leg disease. In 1971, the back pain worsened and he returned to Beijing to treat the disease again. In 1973, they began a wheelchair career. In 1981, he went home to convalescence due to kidney disease and began to write.

In 1998, Shi Tiesheng was diagnosed with uremia. Representative works: "Me and the Temple of Earth", " Essay in the pain ", "Reminder Notes", "Ming Ruo Qin Xian"

If we look at this world in a wheelchair, what does she look like? If we have experienced going to the countryside and going to the countryside, how will our views of her be affected?

The youth of a generation is like a mottled sun, sprinkled on the ground, separated from each other by the leaves above the head, most of them are not connected, and some are just related because of one reason or another, they are entangled from beginning to end.

What is love? Yes, we all believe that sex is not just love. But subtract sex from it, is love still love? of course not. That cannot be separated. So, what is love? There is a large part of our lives, and, inevitably, we walked through in our imagination. Imagine it on an occasional but necessary network knot, as if looking at stars over a distance of tens of thousands of light-years.

The past, the past life, is divided into two types. One is unaware, they are all gone, and even talking about them is no longer possible. Another kind of life that is realized is that it really exists, and then it is preserved as a carrier of meaning.

If you do not tell a person where his destination is, he may give up after walking 10 kilometers. But if he was told where his destination was, he might be able to stick to 100 kilometers. And those who do not know where the endpoint is, but can still insist on 100 kilometers. What kind of tenacious willpower and firm confidence should this have?

No matter what the starting point of such firm confidence is faith that wants to continue to live. Still pious to faith. This is an extremely huge spiritual force. He may not be able to overcome matter. But he can guarantee that he will not be destroyed by matter.

The greatest resistance one can make to the suffering in fate. Probably just keep on life and struggle. As long as he is alive, suffering cannot make him succumb. And when he loses his life, suffering can no longer impose his will on him. This may also be a certain degree of victory.

My friend D likes the game The Sims. D used to kill the villain in the game for some time. I find this interesting. I did not like this approach, and I tried to advise D not to do it.

If there is a certain kind of will that is beyond the soul. Isn't the individual in humans similar to a character in the Sims for the player? Not to mention that the player cannot feel the heart of this virtual character. Even if he felt it, would he have the slightest pity on this virtual character?

Perhaps for gamers, only the same existence as he can be regarded as a kind in his mind, and it is worth his sympathy, compassion, and help. How can he regard the virtual character he created as life?

Similarly, if God exists. Will human beings or other creatures do not count as life in their eyes? It is similar to something made up or a standardized product. How could he have similar emotions for his creation? I don’t think so.

Le Bon described the fanatical emotions of the group in the "The crowd". Groups that come together can exert tremendous building power, but they can also produce shocking destructive behavior. It is usually produced with a clear leader, but its development can easily exceed the forecast of the controller. Even the controller himself may be infected by this huge power, and alienation may occur.

So, in the end, is it the people who control the new will that arises from this group? Or does the latter control the former? This beast-like will was first subordinated to the leader. Later, by influencing the leader, he gradually revealed his true intentions.

What our souls are looking for in life is the connection with other similar souls. It would be unbearable to lack such a connection throughout life. So, we can't live alone without family, friendship, and love.

Sometimes I can’t help but imagine that there are many players in a certain place, they start this game of Sims, the soul is sealed into a mortal body, and a reincarnation begins. When his body perishes, the system will play the wonderful picture of this game for him at the end of his life. Then the soul returns to the bodies of these players. A game is a reincarnation.

Or we can also say that the most important things in life are two things, which are attribute and spiritual attributes. Matters are limited, and without them, we cannot survive. But they are also limited and basic. The soul is not necessary, but it is important, which is probably as important as the salt in food.

Without salt in the food, you can fill your stomach, but it tastes like chewing wax. The soul is not satisfied but only survives in a pure material. That may not be a joy.

Perhaps the focus of life is not on the destination but on the process of pursuing the destination. When we arrived at our destination, we either felt it was not as good as we thought. Either think it's better than expected now, but quickly get used to it or even get bored. Perhaps it is the happiest only on the road towards it with confidence?

Achieving each goal is like an outpost on the way before reaching heaven. We were slightly satisfied when we arrived at the outpost and set off again before this satisfaction has declined. No matter how long our lifespan is, we will never reach the ultimate place. Die in this steadfast pilgrimage full of confidence. Perhaps it is the greatest happiness humans can have.

The physical body does not pursue spiritual things. It does not need freedom or dreams. It only needs water, air, food, and sex. But I think that people live not just to meet the needs of the flesh. This is one of the significant differences between humans and beasts.

Even though many healthy people do not have physical defects, we do not have this kind of disability psychologically, just to varying degrees? We are always worried that our actions and behaviors will not be appreciated or appreciated by others. It seems that Handan is learning to walk, gradually forgetting his inner voice. It seems as if his entire life was born to gain praise from those around him.

The so-called rare confused. We sometimes cannot control ourselves to think about these issues. I'm thinking that if we don't have the urge to think about these issues from the bottom of our hearts, we may live more comfortably. Although the search process can occasionally receive some gifts, most of the time struggled with contradictions.

What a painful consciousness of struggling consciousness is for it. In a house about to catch fire. It’s so sad to be woken up but unable to get out.

I am very interested in such computer software. People always lack enough enthusiasm for their own lives but are interested in the lives of others instead. Therefore, with the existence of human beings, the desire for stories will not disappear.

Due to physical limitations, we may not have visited many places, many things have not been experienced, many people have not communicated. But wherever the soul is, there is no border. From ancient times to modern times, it travels 100,000 miles. Our soul can be included in the entire universe.

Taking a step back, even our self-righteous spiritual power is an illusion. That is, what I think so is that the creator who created me wants me to think so. But if this is both a foregone conclusion, then a non-negative face is also a fact, and a positive face is also a fact, so why not actively face it?

We have been searching for the rest of our lives, some people know what they are looking for, some people think they know what they are looking for, and some people do not know what they are looking for but believe that they can find it in the future. critical.

If one's life is filled with work. After finishing work every day, he enters the trunk at night. I just want to drag my tired body to sleep. How is this kind of life different from farming? The night is coming, the material is far away from us, this time should be the time when the soul power rises and the freedom spreads.

One can only evaluate the behavior of another person, but he cannot evaluate his heart. When we artificially create deities and make false gods perform priesthood to evaluate people's hearts, it is easy to generate power.

Freud further divided "I" into id, self, and superego. The desperate self seeks satisfaction and pleasure. The ego is the individual's perception of his existence. The superego evolved from suppressing instinct requirements.

The god in the author's eyes represents infinite and absolute. The gods in "King of Light", "Chronicles of the Earth", and even "Mythology of Ancient Greece" are more like people with powerful forces, and they are still limited.

The flesh is material, such as physical fitness, strength, and health. The spirit also depends on the material, such as good or bad memory, strong and weak insight, and chaos, and a clear mind. But the soul is immaterial. The soul of a person with a strong body and spirit may not be noble. The soul of a weak and mentally chaotic person may not be humble.

What is the basis of judgment for the superiority of the soul? What is the significance of soul cultivation? For the previous question, I think human beings are not qualified to judge. One can judge the strength of another person's physical quality and spiritual strength, but he cannot judge his soul.

So only you know what your soul looks like. As for the latter question, I think that our pursuit of the soul is to find a way out of the material limitations. Mankind awakened from ignorance and realized that he would suffer suffering and death. How terrible this ability to predict the future?

If we don't have this ability, we can live like a beast in peace and contentment. However, we do not know whether it is lucky or unfortunate, we have this ability to predict our destiny. It makes us shrouded in the shadow of misery and death all day long, worrying about its negligence. At this time, we can only turn to the soul.

We need some kind of power higher than material to comfort our horrified heart. So that when we know the ending of the story, we can walk toward it without turning back.

Science enables us to understand the physical world that imprisons souls. Art is our attempt to explore the possibility of transcending the material.

I think life may be like a wave. Throughout the ages, individual individuals, like water molecules shaking on the spot. The interaction of water molecules forms a ripple, but the ripple itself is not a water molecule.

I have seen some proponents of creationism use the strangeness of nature as an argument to prove the existence of God. I can hardly judge right from wrong. But I know that nature itself deserves to be called a miracle. As for whether it came from the interesting hand of God or the unconscious probability theory, it is difficult for me to judge.

Perhaps the pursuit of GDP as the country ’s first task may not be correct, but the problem is that this is a vicious circle. As long as some countries do not take this as their first goal, it will lag behind other countries and suffer unfair treatment.

And for the country that has become the first, it must ensure its leading position through more powerful material strength. So, where will this economic arm-race ultimately lead mankind?

There is a Tiesheng Hall in the school. I initially thought it had anything to do with Shi Tiesheng. Later, after inspection, it was discovered that it was built by the alumni Qin Benjian of the 1938 and Sun Yuying and his wife to commemorate Mr. Sun Tiesheng, the father of Ms. Yuying.

This book uses a lot of space to discuss issues of faith, divinity, and God. I don't know whether Shi Tiesheng believes in Christianity, but at least I can see that he quite agrees with the teachings of Christianity.

When I read the Old Testament and the New Testament, I was confused. God draws people with miracles and scares them with punishment. Is this any different from the power in the world? Obedient to me, I promise glory, health, and wealth. Those who do not obey me will be destroyed.

Then the believers obtained in this way, whether it is to redeem the suffering of this life, or to pursue the kingdom of heaven after death, or to escape the punishment of the judgment day. Isn't this all like a bribe lured by interests?

The author has also considered this issue. He believes that true faith is not greed for benefits or fear. True faith pursues a path, firm confidence, and the other side that cannot be reached.

Christianity's view of God is similar to Laozi's view of Tao, Confucius' view of man, and Sakyamuni's view of Bodhi. These ultimate meanings are extremely vague. The believers firmly believe that it exists, but at the same time it is not any real thing. It transcends time, space, and individual.

This reminds me of the theory of the constant speed of light. The special theory of relativity points out that no matter what inertial frame (inertial frame of reference) is observed, the speed of light propagation in a vacuum is a constant and does not change with the relative movement of the light source and the reference frame of the observer.

The ultimate truth pursued by Buddhism and Confucianism, and the God of Christian belief, are invisible and intangible, and cannot be directly defined in words. Humans can only describe it laterally, but all the description is not itself. It's like a blind man touching an elephant. Those who have not seen the elephant can only speculate on the whole picture of the elephant through a description. But each description is not like itself.

Sometimes I can't help but be confused. Everyday life is exhausting. Why do we have to spend precious time and energy to think about these things that are not helpful in real life? Even if it can bring some psychological comfort, isn't it a thing where the input-output ratio is too small?

That being the case, why don't we just be purely physical people, and think about these questions that have no answers, neither satisfying the appetite nor obtaining assurance? Where did this restless seed come from? How did it sprout?
