In 57 BC Julius Caesar began his six year campaign to conquer Gaul. At the front line of all the bloody fighting is Darius, a Roman centurion. Unfortunately for Darius his path is continually blocked by a venomous rival. Darius also pays a price for an unlikely friendship that develops between himself and an allied Gallic warrior. It is this friendship that ultimately forces Darius to choose between his devotion to Caesar, which is his path to success, and the barbarian whom he comes to call brother. The setting is war but the drama is the human condition; ambition, loyalty, and betrayal all clash in a climatic conclusion on the battlefields of Alesia.

Excellent. It takes a few pages to build up steam and then it was a page turner. Expertly researched and a lot of fun.
