Gordon Kerr was born in the Scottish new town of East Kilbride and worked in the wine trade and then bookselling and publishing before becoming a full-time writer. He is the author of numerous books in a variety of genres, including art, history, true crime, travel and humour. He has a wife and two children and lives in Hampshire and—when he can—South West France.

This book is the most poorly written and factually incorrect book I have ever read. Fraught with spelling errors, incorrect dates: Otto Von Bismark for example shown born 1771, married 1847 and left office in 1890 (he was actually born 1 April 1815 – died 30 July 1898). Garibaldi he writes was married for the third time in 1880 then Kerr says he died 4 July 1807. That was when he was born!! He claimed Plato's Academy was shut down in 529 BCE by the Byzentine Emperor Justinian who feared it inhibited the spread of Christianity. Only worth reading for a good laugh.
