The final, fantastical, Rufioliscious selection of the epic nostalgic ‘90’s Robin Williams Junior Novelization Triple Feature Spectacular Extravaganza is the original Peter Pan fanfic.

Returning to childhood movies in junior novelization form has been fun, if not particularly rewarding and mostly succeeds as incentive to watch their cinematic bases.

Hook is a fascinating villain, resentful of aging to such an extent that he not only dons a luscious, youthful wig to conceal his thinning white wisps, but flies into a panic if within earshot of a ticking clock, each tik and tok indicating a second less that he has to live. The crocodile that took his hand came to embody death as it was his most significant brush with it. (The movie has a great visual pun with Hook shoving a clock in its mouth after vanquishing it and converting it into a ‘croc tower’ in the square of Pirate Town). Inevitably, the croc, time, and death are not finished with The Captain and he will be swallowed up, literally tripping over time as death descends on him after rapidly aging (losing his wig in his fight with Pan) from the Lost Boys ambushing him with clocks, hundreds of moments ticking away simultaneously.

Oh dear. There’s an adult novelization adapted by Terry Brooks? That’s probably better and completely ruins my Junior Novelization element of this Spectacular Extravaganza.

A quick read that unsurprisingly adheres very closely to the movie. Best for a younger audience, but will a younger audience be familiar with the film?

Found this in a thrift store this summer for 50 cents and didn't have to think twice. I didn't know there had ever been a novelization. I was only 6 when the movie came out, but I loved it and made me a Robin Williams fan. I always enjoy seeing how things are similar or different in a novelization and enjoyed this one. Close enough to bring up pleasant feelings of nostalgia, but some differences as well. It's a quick read and will most likely make you want to watch the movie again if you haven't seen it in a while.

Honestly a 4.5⭐. Having grown up watching the movie a million times, reading this book was a time travel back to my childhood. It follows the movie pretty closely, with short descriptions of longer scenes. I was able to mentally picture the exact scene in the movie as I read. As a parent, this book made me tear up multiple times. I outright cried the last few chapters. The only reason it wasn't five stars is that it used a**es and oh my G** twice each and I didn't care for that in a children's book. Also a married man gets kissed by mermaids and by a fairy and a brief mention of attempted suicide (which is handled in a funny way), all this happens in the movie but was weird reading it out loud to my kids.

Overall I loved the book. Makes me want to watch the movie again.

So I can't find this book listed in English. Odd, but this was the cover so same difference right?

Overall, a cute book. It had been long enough since it's seen the movie I couldn't remember stuff. I'm a sucker for Peter Pan stuff.

The ending though... I'm not crying you're crying. Really, why did it make my sob. I don't know. Peter Pan has been one of my favorite books since Elementary school. I guess I just have deep feelings about it. I just. This is amazing. I just... can't even.

It's basically an exact copy of the movie. There are a few differences, probably deleted scenes or early scripts. It's great for nostalgia and a quick read.

The last of the recently found “chapter books” I found from my childhood! Written in fancy cursive on the inside cover was my congratulatory note from Mrs Powers, commending me for a job well done winning runners up in the 4th grade spelling bee.

I think I enjoyed this book more as an adult than I did a kid! I remember reading this only once or twice in my youth and being bored stupid with it, although I enjoyed the movie a lot. And my memory was correct because every three pages or so there was an arrow written in number 2 pencil reminding me where I left off. Couldn’t even finish a whole chapter I was so bored as a kid.

But maybe that’s why I enjoyed it most as an adult out of the three I read. It was written more for young adults rather than children and maybe I wasn’t ready for it yet all those years ago.

Or maybe it was the fact that now I’m Peter Bannings age so I relate to it a little more!! Ha!

Either way this book is a nice little reminder into the part of us we often too soon forget as adults. But if you remember to follow the second star to the left straight on till morning…

So at some point in my mysterious youth, I saved up my allowance, went to the elementary school book fair, and bought myself... the novelization of the movie Hook???

Even more inexplicably, I'm pretty sure I reread this book, like, ALL THE TIME. Because when I just read it one last time while clearing out a whole bunch of stuff in storage, there were way too many paragraphs that sounded way too familiar to me.

Here's to you, Geary Gravel.

(In other news it did kinda make me want to watch the movie again.)

Soobie a dodici anni:

Forse.

I picked this up at a used book store for like .18 cents because I absolutely adore the movie. This young readers version of the story is just as much fun. I could imagine one day reading it to my kids. It has some inner dialogue for characters besides Peter and also gives you more of an insight into just how much of a grown-up Peter really is. I really enjoyed it!
