Her first Temptation novel, ONE WICKED NIGHT was a finalist for BEST SHORT CONTEMPORARY NOVEL OF 1998 by Romance Writers of America. Jo lives in an incredibly rural area of Utah where her many rescue dogs have room to run and play and her rescue cats are determined to win the International Shedding Award. She spends an inordinate amount of time reading about how the brain works, listening to music and trying not to kill the basil.
Jo's husband died of cancer on 13 June 2008, three years after they married, and whose medical bills are astronomical. Authors, editors, and bloggers have all donated a mess of items, from books to critiques to mentoring sessions to offer an item for the auction to benefit author Jo Leigh.
Seth Turner lost his hand in a gun battle with a group of terrorists working for the CIA. He blames Dr. Harper Douglas for saving his life but no his hand. What kind of soldier can do his job with only one hand? Hiding in a safe house with Harper just makes it worse. He has to look at her every day. He has to endure her helping him with his physical therapy. Seth sees just how lonely Harper is. She has no life outside of her work. Why not spend some of their time taking advantage of their explosive chemistry?
This is the second book in Jo Leigh's In Too Deep series. I thought the story was good. The tension between Harper and Seth is palpable throughout the story. There is some suspense in the second half of the book which picks up the pace. I did have a problem with the ending. It was abrupt and felt more like a "to be continued" rather than a happy ending. You can certainly tell there is another book to read in this series. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
WOW! Jo Leigh delivers more page-turning suspense in quick-read doses with Release, the third book in her 4-part miniseries, In Too Deep....
*SEMI SPOILER* This series is about a small team of former Delta Force warriors, a doctor, and an accountant who all know something about a covert CIA operation. The people running that show want them dead to silence them. They're all "off the grid" until they have enough evidence to go public.
In the first book, Closer..., you really got a true sense of the terror of being stalked by a madman. In the second, Relentless, she painted a vivid picture of what it would be like to witness a gruesome murder and not be able to tell the police.
In Release, you are guided through the frustrations and difficulties experienced by someone whose hand has been amputated, very much against his will, and then he must live with the doctor who cut it off while he's recuperating.
Seth Turner is introduced in Closer..., but we don't meet Harper Douglas and see the two interact until Relentless. Release is their story. We are left with a cliffhanger ending that leads us to the next book, Reckoning.
Jo Leigh is masterful, crafting a well-paced plot and intense characters within the 256-page Blaze format, proving that not all good storytellers need 400 pages to tell their tale. I'll put this miniseries on my shelf alongside Cherry Adair's T-FLAC series and Lora Leigh's Tempting SEALs series.
Obviously this is book three or four of a series of these. Unfortunately, this really should not be a stand alone book. Perhaps had they been bundled as an omnibus and I read them together I'd have liked it more. As it was, bleh.
Maybe if I'd gotten to know either of the characters before they were forced into this situation, I'd have liked either one. Even if it was only a little bit it would have helped. This was certainly not the Blaze format I was looking for when I picked up this book. I'll just know to avoid all Jo Leigh Blaze henceforth. Live and learn.
This book was the second in the thrilling series In Too Deep. “Release” was the story of ex- Delta Force, Seth Turner and Dr. Harper Douglas. Two of the characters who have had to live under the radar just like their friends. And in this series, their story was revealed.
Seth Turner, the hero of this series was first introduced in the prequel and first book “Relentless”. He was one of the Delta Force Warriors under the command of Nate Pratchett (brother of Christie) who were compelled to hide while working on their mission. Reading bits and pieces about Seth in the previous stories was like eyeing the big Christmas gift under the tree and waiting for the big day to unfold it.
Unlucky for our gorgeous and sexy hero, he had had to lose his left hand under the care of our equally gorgeous and sexy doctor, Harper Douglas. To say that Seth despised Harper because she had to do what she had to was an understatement! But he couldn’t deny the attraction that he felt for her every time Harper came near him. What an endurance this hero have had to withstand the continuous blows in his life. But strong didn’t begin to describe his personality, he had persistence! He also has oodles of charm and hot appeal that may have penetrated under the icy exterior of Harper Douglas… or perhaps not!
I have really enjoyed this story. Even though it was suspense, it didn’t lose its humor and sexiness which is the signature of Harlequin Blaze. And the storyline of this series was so great, I was left anticipating for more. I couldn’t wait for the finale which is “Reckoning”. Finally, the story of Nate Pratchett will be told!
This is not your typical Blaze title, that's for sure. And definitely not a title you want to read out of sequence from the rest of the series - lots of characters running around, complicated plotlines involving secret government agencies with sinister sounding names like Omicron, experiental lethal nerve gas for sale on the black market, the heroic group trying to stop all of this. Add to this mix a wounded Delta Forces soldier, having recently lost his left hand to a gunshot injury, and the ice-cold doctor in charge of his recovery. Release does not read like a romance novel - the heroine has practically no redeeming qualities, she uses her lover for sex and escape from her nightmares, she is self-serving and cold. And Seth, our wounded warrior, is angry and sad and depressed and emotional and I needed a release from all of the emotional angst caused by reading this.
I did not like Seth and Harper as a couple. I hope the last book in the series redeems this one.
I didn't realize this book relied so much on being part of a series. I've known of other Harlequins that, while part of a series, could be read alone. This is not one of those books. I wanted to read the book because of the story-line (amputated hero), but was disappointed when the focus on the H/h would cut to other characters and story-lines. I found myself merely skimming those sections to get back to the H/h. Perhaps if I read the previous books I would have been more invested in the auxiliary characters, I don't know. Also, parts of the narrative I liked, but others parts seemed more telling than showing. This was especially true with the secondary plots. All in all, the H/h's story-line wasn't bad, but the rest of the book I didn't really enjoy.
SETH IS A SOLDIER WITHOUT A BATTLE, AND WITHOUT A LEFT HAND. DR HARPER DOUGLAS IS THE SURGEON THAT TOO HIS HAND.... TO SAVE HIS LIFE. TO HIM, HE'S WASHED UP, FINISHED. TO HER HE'S A DELTA FORCE HERO IN HER CARE. THEY ARE ON A MISSION, CAN THEY BOTH FORGIVE ENOUGH TO MAKE A LIFE TOGETHER. 3 STARS
I hoped it would show more of their relationship after they worked thing trought but..., I liked how two completelly different person can together in one of the worst case scenarios
