This sexy femdom anthology is a must read. Pick this book up and read it now. It is not often that a cover is as smoking hot as the contents in the book. The red headed woman with piercing green eyes gives a reader a great Domme to keep in their mind as they read these twenty-one smexy femdom flavours. Ms. King gathers some of the best erotic writers to provide hot sensual tidbits. Each story is explicitly graphic and so good. Each author brings their version of a woman on top. With so many choices, there will be at least one which will tempt the reader's hunger.

Many people believe femdom is all about a cruel woman humiliating and degrading a pussy whipped man. Fortunately, each story dispels this stereotype by showing tasty combinations. Sometimes the man is a strong executive submitting to a woman. Sometimes it is an older man yielding to a younger woman. Other times it is a young man under the thumb of an older woman. Readers are even treated to several mouthwatering ménage. Some of these tantalizing threesomes are with F/f/m and others are with F/m/m. My favourite ones are the following four.

Good for the Goose by Kathleen Bradean is a steamy hawt with wife taking control of her husband. Ms. Bradean's perverted precision cuts a clear picture of how the man suffers at his wife's devilish plans. Ms. Bradean's Domme carries on a diabolical dialog with the reader. It brings the reader closer to the wife and sharing her enjoyment. The ending leaves a vivid image of a wild eyed husband straining at his bonds while his wife cackles. Ms. Braden drops the curtains on the scene just before the nasty conclusion. She is quite the cock-teaser.

In Layover by Lisabet Sarai, the Domme is sadistic to the over cocky arrogant stud. This female pilot takes her male flight attendant to heights he never expected. Each encounter pulls him under her spell. Ms. Sarai builds the heat and when the final scene is exposed, it is sweltering hawt. A twist in the ménage combination is so good to read and the male's dubious consent only cranks up the heat. Ms. Sarai also leaves the reader with a teasing future hook-up. She's definitely an author to follow.

Below the Stairs by T.R Verten is a F/f/m ménage perfect for the bisexual female submissive. Or a greedy play slut female switch would enjoy this one to a T. A husband and wife duo invite a female into their play. The wife directs this sensual scene with the husband witnessing while quivering in need. What bisexual switch doesn't fantasize about this very plausible scenario?

In the Chill of her Displeasure by Veronica Wilde is the perfect final story ending in a spanking bang. This story is definitely realistic with a monthly service party hosted by a Domme in the group. During this time, male submissives provide food and drinks. Why isn't there also service in foot massages and pedicures? This concept is very sexy and I can easily see people in the lifestyle throwing these parties. The tale takes a downward turn when the males step out of line. This is when it gets good as two of the males are disciplined. One can only hope to be invited to the next party.

This arousing anthology is provocative and great inspiration for kinky sex. This book is highly recommended to femdom lovers who want to be seduced with great writing and racy relations.

Erotica lovers that enjoy reading femdom stories, or who at least have an interest in sampling literate representatives of the genre, should seriously consider adding Under Her Thumb: Erotic Stories of Female Domination to their personal library. This latest erotica anthology edited by D.L. King is comprised of twenty-one short stories that explore many different facets of female domination in heterosexual, lesbian and bisexual scenarios, each of which is a refreshingly original and sexy read.

What I find most appealing about these stories is the absence of poorly written stereotypical characters and situations commonly found in BDSM and femdom literature. As a reviewer in those genres, I am perhaps more sensitized to those shortcomings than most readers. Often I have to struggle to be objective as I slog through books and short stories with trite plots (or no plot at all), unoriginal characters, and banal dialogue. That was not the case here. Each and every story was delightfully imaginative and held my interest throughout.

The kink level in these stories varies from relatively light to fairly intense, but it is always presented in an accessible manner. Even the most extreme scenarios do not come off as brutal or vicious, just kinky and erotic. As a consequence, this collection of femdom stories is unique in that it embodies sensibilities that will satisfy sophisticated aficionados and neophytes alike. I give Under Her Thumb: Erotic Stories of Female Domination two thumbs up!

In her collection `Under Her Thumb' D L King has brought together a wonderful, eclectic array of short stories wherein she ventures to explore and disseminate the true nature of a Domme; females whose innate power emanate from within. As Midori informs us in her forward, these are not the cartoon caricatures as depicted by whip wielding, partially leather clad Dominatrices; usually very tightly corseted and wearing unfeasibly high, stiletto heeled boots; the cruel manifestation of many submissive male fantasies. For these women, it is not about the outward displays of dominion but much more about the loving and intimate transference of power; less about demanding devotion from grovelling underlings than the gracious acceptance of their volunteered worship, as a superior being. The care and consideration that they must unfailingly provide in order to earn the complete, unwavering trust of their selected submissive will usually involve intense levels of self-mastery and willpower that lesser beings, mere mortals or males, are simply unable to replicate.
In most of the stories the Domme has actually to exert herself, so that her sub can embrace the level of domination needed for them to experience the gratification for which they strive. Although, she knows that she has the option to simply sit back demanding to be given pleasure, she also understands that pleasure earned and anticipated, as well as when gratefully returned, is pleasure considerably increased.
Some of the stories like `Quiet', `Her Majesty's Plaything' and to an extent `Business Managing' show the tenderness of the Domme to her sub, displaying the depth of the love and affection that exists between them. Any punishment she may give to her sub is not really pain, but pleasure, the abiding love they share converts the one into the other.
In other stories, notably `Layover', `Suffer' and `La Secorcista' the deep love of the Domme to the sub may not be quite so obvious; but there are still signs of tenderness, the care a Domme must have for her sub in order to receive their absolute trust in return. The level of devotion required by the Domme has the prerequisite that the sub is able to place complete and unconditional trust in her; to know them entirely and their limits, maybe even to extending beyond those boundaries slightly, as in `Uncharted Territory'. But never, to disregard them entirely thinking only of her own self-gratification, which all too easily could result in serious harm to the submissive.
That the Domme must at all times remain in absolute control of the entire situation, anticipating and adapting to all eventualities, is abundantly apparent: with `In the Chill of her Displeasure' she quickly controls and harmonises a developing situation, to the complete satisfaction of all. Additionally, in `Subdar', she may use her experience and intuition to recognise nescient submissive appetites in a person, who, until her intrusion, was completely unaware of those inclinations. Gently coaxing these desires out of the hitherto oblivious submissive she allows both of them a glimpse of their own nirvana.

From my Amazon review:

"Under Her Thumb is an eclectic mix of short stories where women dominate in relationships. The publisher, Cleis Press, labels the collection as "fiction/erotica". Some of the stories are arousing but others are less about the action in the bedroom or the whipping rack and more about the subtleties of the relationships. The characters like what they do and even profess their love for each other. Although some of the stories follow the classic femdom tropes (such as the stern mistress) the characters maintain a personal relationship too.

In Jacqueline Brocker's "Bottled and Bound" Regina gives James a thorough cropping because of a spill, bringing him to tears. But in the end they speak their love for each other.

Lawrence Westerman's Her Majesty's Plaything is a loving tribute to his wife as he renews his wedding vows of obedience and loyalty to her in a collaring ceremony. In the end she asks him: "what makes you the happiest man in the world?" to which he replies "Belonging to you and serving you".

In DL King's "Hound and Hare" the woman makes a suggestion to a guy she has just met that she'd "be happy to lock [his cock] up". He blushes in embarrassment but doesn't object. She introduces him to sexual submission. But unlike the usual cold, indifferent mistress of standard femdom, she tells him after an intimate session, "Call me tomorrow night...Get home safe".

Some of the stories reveal how the combination of pain and sex expose an inner depth of the characters.

In Eva Mora's "Uncharted Territory", the woman says after whipping her man, "I love how pain softens you, how it opens you up...".

In Teresa Noel Roberts "Business Managing", Ms. Bridges is riding Dan and telling him to hold his ejaculation: "she wanted him to hold on...so he would let go and follow her will."

In Andrea Zanin's "Quiet", the woman defends her cross-dressing partner when she has a session with him at a club. The attendees "assume that his demurely feminine attire is a punishment...[but] she knows he is beautiful." She comments, "There is nothing humiliating about being beautiful or about being feminine...[or about] submission".

In Giselle Renards's "Suffer", the man returns for a beating from his mistress to atone for his guilt for his extramarital affair. "He thought his pain was buried deep enough, but she always found it. She brought it to the surface [and] gave him every kind of relief".

In Aimee Nichols "All Eyes on Him", while her partner receives a flogging at a public club: "his brain tries to deal with the onslaught of pain signals and...pleasure...as the pain and lust and joy merge into [a] world of sensation".

In David Wraith's "Repent!...": "There was something frenzied about the way she was spanking my ass with her bare hand...She wanted this as much as I did."

Some of the stories are about dominance. In Rachel Bussel's "Subdar", "true dommes know there are infinite ways to get what they want...". Quinn learned from experience with submissive men that "the uncertainty was part of what got them off. Following her lead, and trying to figure out her next move, were part of what kept their mind and body in sync...except she would [be]...the one in total control.".

In Kathleen Bradean's "Good for the Goose", she says, "once he was tied up and I didn't have to worry about him moving, I was...getting wetter and wetter."
The wide range of story lines makes this difficult to narrow my recommendation to one kind of reader (i.e. men who like femdom erotica). There are also stories of female to female relationships and a FFM (female to female to male) menage. What is common to most of these tales is that they are from the woman's point of view and often her account of the action. Male writers often dwell more on the thoughts of their mistresses than on their submissiveness.

Women who are curious about the kind of relationships where they dominate may find many of these stories enlightening. Men who like this genre of fiction will find the storys stimulating.

On the whole the writing is a decent quality and the editor's selections will give readers an interesting view of the varieties of woman dominated relationships."

addendum: After I wrote the review I had checked out the writings of many of the authors. Some write a wide range of erotica and other writers are mostly femdom-centric. Most of the writing is more literate and female-centric than what is typical of the genre, possibly due to King's selections. Some reviews have criticized the collection because of this bias.

I just read Under Her Thumb, Erotic Stories Of Female Domination edited by D. L. King. I have to admit to liking fireworks. I like the short bursts of light and color and excitement they provide. D. L. King captured those bursts of color and excitement in her edited work. The work includes stories by D. L. King, Rachel Kramer Bussel , Teresa Noelle Roberts and Laura Antoniou among the writers. There are a total of 21 stories plus a forward by Midori. All mentioned are known in the BDSM scene of domination and submission. There are other authors like Leela Scott and Aimee Nichols that are new to me but I hope to see more of their writing. You don’t have to know scene people or to have experienced domination and submission first sleep hand to enjoy these stories. You just have to know how people connect and manage their relationships and enjoy their sexuality, whatever leaning it maybe. Some stories are just the stuff that hot fantasies are made of.
I greatly enjoyed this book and gladly give it five stars. I will reread some of the stories time and again. I like most firework displays though one story misfired and fizzled for me. I’m not sure if I just didn’t connect with it or understand it but 20 out of 21 terrific stories work for me. Read this and have fun

What a wonderful anthology. I enjoyed all of these stories, some more than others. They were sexy and enlightening.

I listened to the audio version. It was narrated by a male and at times I found him hard to understand. His voice was very slow and low and he seemed to drag out the letter S.

Had I read the book, rather than listen to it, I probably would have given it 5 stars.

A few of the stories really spoke out to me, personal and exquisite. But most of them are short and dull.

I found this anthology absolutely delightful, showcasing the humanity of realistically-portrayed dominant women rather than relying on everyone's favorite bitch goddess in heels that practically hobble her trope. This is another anthology that starts with a very strong first story, Andrea Zanin's "Quiet," and I love how the protagonist acknowledges this trope and the struggle of being a female dominant in public playspaces.

Tonight, she has been on display. This was not her intention. It doesn't matter that she dressed up for her own pleasure [... ,] the public clubs are full of people who do not know what they are looking at. They are populated by men who see only their fantasies come to life, not the flesh-and-blood women in front of them. These men do not notice his devotion, or his beauty. They see only her, and only her contours, at that.

The same story also looks at how male submissive beauty is either ignored or fit into incorrect assumptions.

This is not humiliation. There is nothing humiliating about being beautiful or about being feminine. She, herself, is both of those things, and many more. She cannot fathom how encouraging these qualities and others could possibly be shameful or worthy of mockery. There is also nothing humiliating about submission. It is a gift and all the finer when given selectively.

I want to put that quote on my bedroom wall, just saying. Another highlight of the anthology is Rachel Kramer Bussel's "Subdar," a delightful first-encounter story featuring a salt-and-pepper instinctive sub whom you kind of just want to take home and cuddle (or do dirty things to, perhaps simultaneously). I love the quiet power of the female character as she has him simply kneel in a public restroom while she's on the toilet. On a completely different tone, I appreciated the downright dirty multiple-femmes-on-blindfolded-boy queer story, "The Dinner Party," which Anne Grip opens with a lovely image of a woman's floral party dress showing off the silhouette of what she's packing underneath.

Like every other collections of short stories that are written by different authors, there are a mix of good and not-so-good stories. I'd guess it's because they're trying to reach the widest possible range of readers. I thought that most of the stories were tame, depicting safe and consensual acts of bdsm. Not that it's wrong by itself, but I like my erotica to be wilder, even shocking at times with dubious consent. They've been mostly written, with a few exceptions, by women authors for women readers. If you are starting off with kink and want introductory stories then this could be just perfect for you.

Lovely set of short, femdom fiction.

Every story had merit some were very good indeed. Lovely way to while away an afternoon by the pool. Lots of different dynamics and settings.
