Yet another fantastic book in this series I continue to love each one. Poor Tess had no idea she a shifter as she was raised by human parents. Upon her mother dying she finds out info that leads her to Alaska to find answers. One there feces hits the fan in so many ways and Derek the deputy sheriff is there to rescue her but that causes more chaos as he realizes she's his fated mate. While the two deal with Tess accepting her true nature and being a mate danger lurks from her mother's past as a secret organization is not all its supposed to be drawing many from two towns into choosing sides and trying find a safe way out of the mess. Read this exciting beautifully written story to find out all the drama excitement and suspense that happens the discoveries Tess makes how her sister is involved and how it all ends.

We are back in Mystic River for another powerful story. Derek is Deputy Sheriff and a polar bear shifter. Tess has the shock of her life when her dying mother gifts her journals that her birth mother wrote. The journal talked about fantastical things like shifters. Tess didn't believe it until she went to Mystic River and shifted into a polar bear on accident! Derek finds her and knows she's his fated mate. Tess was able to confront the man responsible for her birth mothers death and was able to get closure. I enjoyed getting to read the journal entries her birth mother wrote. Her story was one of courage.

The title and blurb are misleading. The story is good but could be better. Everything seemed rush and I've never read a shifter book where the MMC is a grown man but all he constantly thinks about is sex even in his dreams which were also very odd or talked about his penis do much it was like it was written by a horny teenager. The second half of the book I was fully expecting the war they knew was coming then absolutely nothing. In all honesty this book sounded good in the blurb but the actual book was a let down. I could see where the author was coming from with the plot and with some work could be alot better.

Though I haven't read any of this series before, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Polar bear shifter romance was a first as well which I found quite interesting. Well written storyline with two strong main characters, add in some humor and a HEA and it deserves a great rating. I'm definitely going to be reading the others.

Stolen Mate is part of the Mystic river series and I really enjoyed it. This was much more my preferred romance experience than a forced bonding between fated mates. I like to see the MC’s get to know and trust each other more before they accept the mate bond. This carries over with intrigue from the otter cove series with awareness of a growing threat to shifters and humans. This book has good characters and quick paced storyline.

Tess and Derek’s story is a great read. When Tess heads to Alaska to find out about her birth mother, she finds far more than she is looking for. Delta weaves a wonderful tale for these two. Plenty of twists to keep you reading till the very end. Great series can’t wait to see how this all works out.

STOLEN MATE is the sixth instalment in Delta James’ contemporary adult MYSTIC RIVER SHIFTERS erotic, paranormal, romance series set in Mystic River, Alaska. This is children’s book illustrator Tess Dixon, and polar bear shifter Sheriff Derek Grayson’s story line. STOLEN MATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives using present day and journal entries, STOLEN MATE follows in the wake of Tess Dixon’s mother’s death. Tess has always known she had been adopted but her mother’s dead bed confession pushed Tess to begin a search for the family she never knew. Arriving in Mystic River, Tess would quickly discover all was not as it appears to be, and her birth mother’s journals would reveal a world in which she could have only dreamed. Meeting Sheriff Derek Grayson found our heroine reconsidering her future and her life, only to discover Tess is a polar bear shifter, and Derek is her fated mate but Tess’ arrival in Mystic River has piqued the interests from the demons of the past, and Tess will be targeted for her biological heritage.

The world building follows Tess’ search for the truth, and Derek’s need to claim his fated mate. From the outset Tess takes easily to the world into which she was born , a world about which she had only read. The history of Tess’ biological mother sets into motion a need for revenge and to reclaim all that was lost.

The relationship between Tess and Derek is one of fated mates. Derek knows immediately that Tess is his mate but our heroine is about to discover there is more to Derek than she could have ever imagined. Unaware shifters existed outside of the paranormal romance books, Tess learns quickly the relationship between mates is for life. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and magical secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Derek’s extended family including the Mystic River, and Kodiak shifters, as well as Tess’ human sister Lara.

STOLEN MATE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession and fate, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is detailed and captivating; the romance is seductive ; the characters are determined and dynamic.

Tess was always told she was adopted when her parents visited Alaska. She was never told that there were secrets involved until she read the journals that her mom hid from her. Her birth mom was a human who was kidnapped, forcibly mated and turned into a polar bear shifter against her will. Her mom did everything she could to escape so her unborn daughter would be born free. Tess has never heard about shifters before and thinks that her adoptive mom was crazy. She does decide to visit Mystic River, Alaska to find out more. After she arrives and checks into a motel, she goes for a walk. The next thing she knows, she wakes up naked in the Derek's house, the town's deputy. She is very attracted to Derek and keeps hearing a strange voice in her head. Is she going crazy like her birth mom or could the shifter story be true?

Derek was the son of the polar bear pack's alpha. His dad is very traditional and abusive, especially to women. Derek was happy to get away from him and join his older brother's group. Instead of being a troublemaker like his father encouraged him to be, he has become the town's deputy. One day he gets a call from the local motel saying that one of their guest had gone out for a walk a few hours ago and hadn't return. Derek goes out and quickly discovers two things. The guest is a polar bear shifter and his fated mate. He takes Tess back to his house. When she wakes up, he learns that she has no knowledge of shifters or that she is a shifter. He has to break the news about shifters to her and the fact that she is a shifter. He doesn't want to tell her about the mate bond right away because he is afraid that it will be too much for her. Then Derek's dad learns about Tess and wants to force her to join his group. Derek will do whatever it takes to keep her safe and free.

This Bear shifter romance was fabulous from beginning to end and the story line was very unusual but thoroughly enjoyable. The characters were excellently put together and I liked the way the reader got to read the journal entries that was written by Tess's mum and made to very difficult to put down. This was the first time I had heard of Delta James and was what a remarkable author and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Derek and Tess's story

Or... how the Council finally got the ball rolling... or Henry's last mistake... we get some traction in the larger story. The Shadow League remains in the shadows for now, but we've reached a tipping point, and things are starting to happen.

Tess and Lara have lost their mother. Tess was left her mother's diary and doesn't know why. But she's feeling a pull toward Alaska and the place of her parents' last adventure before she was born. She's a children's book illustrator, with a polar bear spirit guide... and her world is about to be blown wide open as she works through that diary.

Honestly, it's one of the best stories in the series. We have an interesting balance between the specific story of Tess and Derek being mated and how her personal family history intersects with the larger shifter/Shadow League storyline.

I almost want to go back to the beginning and start rereading them all, but I can't not read the next books either.

Tess and her sister Lara are worried about their mom as she is now in hospice care, living with Tess. Lara is a veterinarian and isn’t home long enough to really help her mom out. Since Tess could as she illustrates children’s books and has won awards and now some romance authors want her to do covers for them. Cathy is the hospice nurse and does a wonderful job. I love how Tess and Lara interact, they are hilarious. I cried over their mom. However, Tess was adopted. There are loads of reveals on that. So Tess ends up in Mystic River to find out about her bio mom. I liked the book because she ends up with Derek Grayson who is deputy in Mystic River. A lot happens in the books and so much history is revealed on both Tess’ side and Derek’s. I cried a few more times and worried enough to chew my nails. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Again absolutely wonderful story. I’m so glad Derek got his turn and frankly Tess is just fabulous. I love the two of them together they are both care takers and mesh perfectly. I found the rings to just be wonderful.

I know it’s too much to hope for that Henry and his nasty group are actually gone for good. He will be back to raise his evil head again.

The sense of home Tess found is so beautiful and I’m sure Lara will find her perfect happy ever after too.

The council and the league are becoming more evil and nasty every confrontation I’m not sure what they think they can accomplish but need to be shot down in an never ending blaze. More books from this world please.

Selecting a Delta James book to read is a no-brainer for me

Her wonderful Alaskan based stories are fuel for my imagination; and far better entertainment while travelling that the inflight entertainment is.

Not all children who are adopted necessarily want to know about their birth parents and Tess was no different, at least until her mother died. What an eye-opener although she wasn't too upset by it, especially once she met Derek.

Tess + Derek = Peace and Love! Stolen Mate (Mystic River Shifters Book 6) is a page turner. This is a family story of humans / Polar Bear shifters that band together. It is a tale of family, fated mates, loyalty, and preparation for war. This series has me in its paws and won’t let me go. These are standalone stories but why read them in isolation when the characters live in community and there is an underlying conflict that connects the books in this great series. Don’t take my word for it; grab the book and enjoy. I’m off to read book 7

Tess and her sister Lara deal with the final days of their mom. Their mom tells Tess to read her journals. During the settling of property, they eventually found the journals. As Tess knew she was adopted and little stories Lara knew about, Tess decided to look into her birth moms past in Alaska.

This is her story of finding about the past.

AN UNKNOWN ALASKAN CONNECTION

The story is part of the new Mystic River Shifters. It will have a great cast of characters, including humans and shifters. While you could read this out of order, to fully understand the characters and interactions, it is best if they are read in written order, because it is an ongoing saga. Each story picks up from where the last one left off (especially within the epilogue.) This story will be about Derek Grayson and Tess Dixon.

Tess Dixon knew she was adopted, but never had a desire to locate her ‘birth-parents.’ When her mother is dying, she makes sure that Tess understands that there are diaries and that she needs to read them. When she finally does, she discovers her life has been secret. Reading about the tragic death of her mother, Teresa Travers will have her traveling to Alaska for more answers. The part about shifters—surely that is all made up like those paranormal shifter romance books her sister Lara loves to read.

The story is surrounded by secrets, mystery, and suspense and turns into surprises and changes. While those in Mystic River understand Tess is a shifter, it isn’t something she knows—but that is all about to change. What a surprise for some people to meet Tess and the uncanny resemblance to Teresa Travers, who went missing over twenty-five years ago. Meeting Derek Grayson, and waking up in his bed in his cabin is a shock, yet comforting. Being told that you are a polar bear shifter, is not so reassuring. Discovering that everything you questioned growing up now makes sense—is still troubling.

Tess: Chef by day, superhero by night—the white bear seeks out those who are in need of justice.
Derek: You see me as a superhero?
Tess: Most definitely. All those ripping muscles and well, not to put it too finely, you’re kind of hung. That’s not true, you’re really hung.

I loved the connection and chemistry between Derek and Tess. It won’t be easy to explain to Tess she is a polar bear shifter, but how about that she is his fated mate? And learning that the people in both Mystic River and Otter Cove are also shifters. The story will bring danger to Tess because Old Henry isn’t pleased that Teresa escaped, killed the one who turned her, and then died herself, knowing there was a child out there. Learning that Tess is in fact, Teresa’s child, he thinks he can lay claim to her—but Derek will never allow that to happen—after all, she is his fated mate, and he will fight to the death for her.

The story will have a fight, but this isn’t the major battle to come. The story doesn’t end on a cliffhanger but does set up the next story in the series.

Little by little things change. Stolen Mate is a 202-page fated mate, shifter story. It is the 5th in the Mystic River Shifters series. This is classic Delta James writing at its best. The reading was fast and kept me engaged. I found no typos or other mistakes (which is always a bonus for a pedant like myself). I borrowed this book from KU and heartily recommend it.

Ms. James always delivers a fantastic story, and this one is no different. I don't know if I've read another story by her about a character that didn't know they were a shifter and that added a level of drama and suspense that I really liked. Between the steam, chemistry, adenture, drama, and moments of humor, you get a very enjoyable read that is hard to walk away from.

The Unknown Shifter

After reading her birth mother's journals, she ended up in Otter Cove and Mystic River. After shifting for her first time, she was found by her fated mate. I liked that she took being a shifter and all that went with it in stride. After a run in with the Council, they got their HEA.

A wonderful book with an interesting storyline.
Fortunately, Tess is not a fragile doll and takes everything as it comes.
The rollercoaster she ends up in only makes her stronger, in that respect she is a lot like her mother.

What I think is a shame is that the story ends so abruptly and there is no epilogue.

Her adopted mother when she was dying gifted her with the journals of her real mother. No believing it she goes to Mystic River. He is the sheriff and realized she is his fated mate. Trouble starts when he finds out who she is and knows people are going to want to shut her up on what happened. Loved it and was sorry to see it end. Very Good Read,

Another very good read, Derek caught my attention in his brother's story in the Otter Cove Shifters series so I was really glad to get his story and it did not disappoint. So again another very well written story in this series.
