All for Jesus is a historical accounting of The Christian and Missionary Alliance's formation as a denomination, spanning 125 years of ministry. Beginning with the vision andlife's work of founder Dr. A. B. Simpson, the book follows the commitment of early C&MA workers to complete the Great Commission, culminating in thepresent-day ministries of The Alliance.English/Spanish Print and ePub version is available for purchase through The Alliance
Informative and thorough in providing a history of the CMA denomination from its inception in the late 1800s to the 1980s.
The best parts were stories about the missionaries and the sacrifices they made to spread Jesus’s name abroad.
I do not understand the CMA’s infatuation with AB Simpson. I don’t think I ever will. The fourfold gospel is unhelpful - it muddles and confuses what “the gospel” actually is. His home life was not to be emulated. His kids left the faith because he spent little to no time with them because of his strenuous self-imposed workload. There are good things in his life to be encouraged by, but he’s made out to be way too much of a hero.
This was assigned reading for me—but I’m glad I got to read it! The book itself could have been better organized and condensed overall—I had to really slog through several spots that could have been a paragraph but took up several pages. But it is a very thorough resource that gives a full and detailed history of the Alliance. I was especially grateful to the authors for not leaving out the not-so-pretty parts of the Alliance’s history, and for including the important contributions of women and minorities. I finished the book feeling overall encouraged and grateful to be a part of this denomination.
A good summary of the C&MA movement/denomination, told from the official, authorized point of view. Heavy on the side of whiteness and maleness. And it attempts to tell uncomfortable truths about some flawed leaders and directions without calling them out as wrong.
