Detective Jack Ridge is dying. But that isn’t stopping him from trying to find a missing girl. Concealing his illness, he stays on to continue the struggle to solve the case. Several other girls who’ve disappeared have all turned up dead, and Jack knows he doesn’t have much time. But the case goes cold, and Jack has all but given up hope until 9 year old Rebecca provides the clues which can catch the killer. Unaware of the secret that she’s carrying, Rebecca is tormented by nightmares and visions she can’t understand. While undergoing therapy, her doctor uncovers the root of her fear, the memory of a horrific murder. But the identity of the victim is the most shocking of all. When Jack learns how the girl’s story was acquired, it challenges everything he believes. Jack dismisses her account until an incident reveals her story to be irrefutable. The events that follow will change Jack forever, and prove to him that there’s a reason and purpose for every life...and death.

No, cosa dici mai.

Transience

The worst ending of any book I have ever read. The story was fine, but was so disappointed in the ending. Know I will not read another by this author.

This is a British author, so there's an inevitable slight tinge of cold cynicism in the writing; but it's slight enough to be ignored. Also, the author is clearly of a New Age / Paganism persuasion, which is there but not excessive.

That said, it was a great story with twists & turns and a solid happy ending. I enjoyed it.

Come avrei potuto resistere a tutti questi elementi?

The book is an easy read with short chapters that keep the story dynamic. It grabs you right from the start and keeps your attention and thirst constant throughout the book.
Two “downs” for me were
1. The ending.. WTF!!probably one of the worst endings ever (luckily the bad ending is literally just the last chapter)
2. I feel like it doesn’t really give you a great explaination of how the killer pieced all toghether

However in general a nice read

Writing is okay, good puzzle, not much amateurish constructs—but all the reincarnation?

Frankly, I'm rating it as a solid 2 in my own catalog, and deleting it from my library. Setting aside my disquiet over the amateurish psychobabble and reincarnations, the yarn has no bones. Yet some readers can ignore such things, and I believe those would rate the book a 3-1/2 or even 4, so that's what I'm chalking up.

Jack Ridge is a detective he is also dying of cancer. He desperately wants to find the serial killer who has been plying his despicable trade for many years. He also wants to find Angelina, the latest girl to go missing, who is hopefully still alive.
Enter Laura and her 9 year old daughter Rebecca. This is where the story gets a bit odd and we are expected to believe in the paranormal.
Is Transience worth reading? Probably.

A detective with a heart, a terrified little girl, and so much suspense it was a very a don't put down book. While the ending was totally unexpected, it was an ending to make the reader think. I was a little disappointed that Jack, the detective, was unable to fulfill he desire to reconcile with his brother it may leave an opening to possibly a sequel. Hmmm.....

Very good and quite an interesting read. The combination of a serial murder mystery and a little girl suffering through repeated nightmares of the gruesome death of one of the first victims was an intriguing concept. That the little girl was the original girl's soul reincarnated was different. Overall it was a good read and I enjoyed it.

This is a really good mystery with well developed characters and an interesting take on what happens when we die.

I will advise, however, that if you are anticipating recognising any Lansing landmarks (the book is set in Lansing), you won't. The Lansing in the book is entirely fictional.
