Ryohgo Narita (成田 良悟, Narita Ryōgo) is a Japanese light novelist. He won the Gold Prize in the 9th Dengeki Novel Prize for Baccano!, which was made into a TV anime in 2007.[1] His series Durarara!! was also made into a TV anime, which began airing January 2010
There are two traits found in most of Narita's works: * Narita writes extremely fast, one volume a month if he wishes - with tons of spelling errors and missing words as a tradeoff. The editors like to leave them sometimes just for fun, though. * His work titles often have an exclamation mark at the end (i.e. Baccano!, Vamp!, Durarara!!, etc.).
First half goes very slowly, the plottwist at the end was kinda surprising (even though I have settled down for a disappointing one!), but when you get to Shizuo's backstory, the pages fly very quickly. This arc seems better than the Dollars one, so I can't wait to read more!
Being completely honest, Durarara!! is one of my (current) favourite series'. I haven't had a chance yet to read the light novels (I thought that these were them, but no, but oh well that's fine), but I loved the anime and I like to poke around the internet. The manga is good, though I kind of miss the fluid animation of the anime quite a bit – especially for the fight scenes. Since the Saika arc is my favourite, this was a must for me, but for anyone else? I think if you're a newcomer, I'd have to stress that you go with the anime first rather than read the manga which, at this point, is more or less just a recap.
It's really fun to have a new story about these characters and with a new mystery involving the strongest person in Ikebukuro and a demon sword! The dialogue is still really funny at times, and so far I might actually like this one even better than I did the first series (but perhaps that's just because I know the characters much better now). We'll see how things progress from here; I'm looking forward to it!
This arc is so much better then the first. The main characters which are explored are among the best one in the series (Saika and Shizuo), also the mystery is better explored and the twist and turns more unexpected and fun.
One does need to read the previous arc to get a grip on whats happening in the manga.
It starts off a bit abruptly with the introduction of a new rumor.
To say Sonohara's teacher is a creep is putting it lightly. He is a sexual harasser and pedophile going after his own students that he deems vulnerable. Fortunately, Kida steps in- though Anri is quick to call out how genuine his feelings actually are. Kida still let's her know that Ryuugamine is actually serious about pursuing her. Though she questions her own feelings towards them- a common thing for many teens still figuring themselves out (and many adults too) of whether or not the affection she feels is romantic or just friendship.
Anri never fights back against her bullies- because she agrees with them- that she can't survive unless she's leeching off of someone else- "using" people to find her own place. Which I think is normal- "using" other people to figure yourself out is something that just happens naturally when you interact with people.
The short POV of the writer for the Tokyo Disaster looking for the strongest in Ikebukuro was quite interesting- if not a bit dumb since he was just asking for trouble.
I love seeing more interactions with the van gang! Celty being afraid of the supernatural (that she deems real) is too funny! - and her concerns for her friends is really quite sweet. I feel like Celty is the most human character of them all despite not actually being one.
We get to see Shizuo's backstory and how he got so strong- and his uncontrollable anger along with it. He doesn't make excuses and wants to get better at controlling his rage- but it's really only the sentiment, there's no action plan. But his rage for Celty being attacked is quite sweet too- I really like the friendship these two have!
I've been meaning to get into Drrr! for a while now and I'm really glad I did! If I had known a little more about the timeline I probably would not have started on the Saika arc, but it turned out fine. Excited to read more of this series!
I wasn't so sure about the way the series was split into volume arcs but so far I've enjoyed it, and so far this arc is as mysterious and Intresting as it predictor
Not bad. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was good. We've got the headless motorcycle rider (and she's a chick!) and an unknown slasher that's been roaming the streets but so far has only wounded, not killed anyone. There's the strongest man in Ikebukuro who has kind of an adreneline-fueled Hulk thing going on. We've got a scruffy newspaper reporter trying to get a story and a creepy high school teacher who seems to have a thing for his girl students.
All packed into one volume! Apparently, this was a novel first before being a manga. I'll be reading volume 2 - I am interested to see where this one goes.
A bit hard to get through. Mostly because of the pages in the forums. I always find those hard to get through.
We're introduced to the next storyline, "The Saika Arc." Basically, someone's going around "slashing" people (not killing them, just stabbity stabbing), and supposedly they're using the demon sword Saika.
We also get more about Shizuo and Celty and Anri, but not a whole lot on the last one.
If you've watched the anime, nothing different or surprising in this volume.
A solid start to the next arc. I think this one, because it already can assume we're familiar with the characters, is allowed to dig into the mysteries and the supernatural a lot faster than the previous arc did. That gives it a lot more momentum right out of the gate. It was a quick read, but a really good one.
Yah, karena saya baca ini dulu sebelum DRRR!! Durarara!!... jujur saja membingungkan, terutama hubungan antar karakternya... Tapi.. membingungkannya ga sampe bikin jidat berkerut sih.. Saya lumayan bisa nangkep intinya..
The only reason I ended up reading this series is because, at one point in the past, I absolutely loved the anime. Not so much anymore since I kind of watched it so many times, it eventually just seemed pretty meh to me. Kind of like how I’ve always felt for this series as a manga; it’s just meh.
Just wasn't my thing, I could only get through the first few chapters before calling it quits. I wasn't interested in the characters and I wasn't interested in the overall plot that was developing within the story. I recommend others to try it for themselves.
I found it a little confusing switching between following the characters then being in a strange chat room, then back to the characters, back to the chat room....
