The O'Malleys #1

Changing Her Mind

Rate this book
Mason is in love, and being a traditional kind of guy he expects traditional things—like rings, rice, and church bells. Rebecca is in love too, although she prefers to think of it as being ‘in lust’. Oh, she wants him, badly in fact, but if it’s all the same to him she’ll just skip the church and rice bit and go straight to the blazing hot sex.

Unfortunately for her, and for her sweet bottom, it isn’t all the same to him. Mason is a reasonable man most of the time, or at least that’s what he tells himself, but he is determined to change Rebecca’s mind about marriage by almost any means necessary. As his frustration level skyrockets he begins to realize he might be a little more traditional and a little less reasonable than he thought. He’s willing to give her something blazing hot alright, but until they tie the knot it won’t be blazing hot love she’ll get, it will be a blazing hot bottom.

Mason is the older brother Rebecca never had and took his role seriously after Rebecca’s father passed away. Rebecca is full of fire and spunk and although Mason has been there to correct her when she needs it, she has been seeing Mason in a different light for quite some time now. It was only a matter of time before Mason saw it too.

The trouble is, after watching her father’s heart break after the death of her mother, Rebecca wasn’t sure that “happily ever after” was what she wanted. She was quite content with having a blazing hot love affair with Mason without all the commitment and heartache that came with marriage.

I have mixed feelings about “Changing Her Mind.” The story was entertaining and the spankings were certainly enjoyable, but the drama surrounding the characters was a bit exasperating. Personally, I prefer open communication and honesty in my relationships. This, however, doesn’t make for a very good storyline as there is little to no conflict to speak of. However, basing all disagreements in a book on hotheaded emotion and ignorance is not a great alternative. It seemed like the majority of arguments in this book could have been solved by simple conversation. The sheer number of misunderstandings and emotional outbursts was mind-boggling. The characters were either too pissed off to offer an explanation for a misunderstanding or they were too busy seething at the other to hear what the other person was saying. As a result, I found myself gritting my teeth each time Mason and Rebecca argued as it just seemed unnecessary and immature.

If you are looking for a new spanky book and can tolerate high-drama relationships and all the nonsense that comes with them, then “Changing Her Mind” is a good fit. Otherwise, you may end up more frustrated than pleased with this book.

DNF at 13% - we're in the 2020s now and it's time to stop making women in their 20s immature as children.

Nope, Nope, Nope

Speaking her because she was "a bad little girl"? Spanking when both agree to it is one thing. Spanking her this way is just wrong. Maybe if he had treated her as an adult instead of a misbehaving child, she wouldn't have acted out. His need to control all aspects of her life was not right. Just when I thought he had finally got it he spanks her at their wedding and just made me dislike him more. I did not care for the so-called "hero" in this book at all.

Mason is like a second father figure to Rebecca, as he takes his role of protecting his dead friends' daughter very seriously. Recently however Rebecca has started seeing Mason in a different light and wants to change thier platonic relationship to a romantic one.
Mason resists in the begining as she is a lot younger than him, and his dead friends' daughter. However he realizes that he is in love with her and they begin thier new relationship.

Both are strong stubborn characters with different views especially about their marriage as Rebecca doesn't need a ring and a piece of paper to show her love for Mason, Mason wants the whole nine yards with the women he loves. Most of the arguments and the drama, I believe could have been solved through proper open communication, and sometimes the Mason seemed pretty high handed (even though i know he is an Alpha), so the story conflict seemed sort of forced.

I didn't mind the spankings because I knew that was a part of this book, and the sexy-times were well written. overall a good read.

A hand of poker. Winner take all

I liked the characters. Mason was the hot alpha male, who ways everything. Marriage, kids, house and a HEA.
Rebecca was the girl who didn't believe in commitment. People left, you got hurt, nothing was forever.

Mason wanted to prove to her that the past didn't need to encroach on the future.
But were they died from the start? Both listed after the other, but it was just one disaster after another.

Mas kidnaps Rebecca and takes her to a remote cabin, where she proceeds to come down with staging fever, and Mason is now frightened they may never actually get their tomorrow.

Was it going to be one disaster too many. A game of poker. Winner take all. Someone is going to lose.

Story Deserves Four Stars, But...

This book has a horrendous lack of editing! Did anyone even read through this? I counted at least three times where words had numbers in them, names misspelled, words out of order. It was very distracting and disappointing because Stevie MacFarlane's books are better than this.

Now as for the story, it was a little wonky. They never really talked or dated. It seemed their relationship took place before the book was written, so I never felt in line with how they felt. There were many funny parts and I still remain a fan. This wasn't the best though.

This is the first book in the series and what a fun read it was it had me laughing out loud at times. This is Mason and Rebecca she has been in love with him for as long as she can remember and has saved herself for him all she needs is for him to stop seeing her as a little sister. She is in for a shock when he finally does see her though and he has no problem putting her over his knee until she sees things his way.A super read I really enjoyed it

The first book in the O’Malley series. While I enjoyed the book I did feel I missing a bit of background. It didn’t read like the first book.

Mason and Rebecca are two strong stubborn characters with different views on there relationship. That makes for a lot of funny, frustrating and sexy scenes. I wasn’t too sure however about their transformation from friends to lovers. Maybe because some background was missing.

Well written story with nice storyline and plot. Characters are well described. Both main characters are strong and stubborn, but attracted to each other. A story that is funny, sad, has a bit of kink, twists, emotions, passion, hot chemistry and frustration.
A nice read and the first book in the series about the O'Malleys. I miss some depth to it and background information about the family and brothers.

Enjoyable read.

Her fiance says no deal and makes it his mission to get her down the aisle even if he has to spank her each time she tries to undermine his goal. I enjoyed the read how the characters supported each other, the characters are likable. The author gives you strong independent women with men who aren’t afraid to let them shine. I liked how the men encourage them and help them reach their goals. I thought the plot was nice, loved the humor, the sex hot and the romance sweet.
