This is an incredibly resource that is rich with information, statistics, and most importantly, actionable steps that can be taken to make a difference. The amount of organizations dedicated to helping girls that was curated by the author is mind blowing. Surrounding each resource is important data and anecdotes supporting the need for assistance in that area.

Where this fell a little flat for me was the lack of discussion about problems in the U.S., specifically unwanted pregnancy. I suppose I shouldn’t have expected that as a focus because the scope here was GLOBAL issues for girls, not just American issues. Nevertheless, it feels that there should have been more attention given to contraception or abortion access and education (or the lack thereof) and issues surrounding that topic. Female Genital Mutilation was mentioned more often than pregnancy which seemed unbalanced, despite the horrors of FGM.

Regarding the structure and format, there is SO MUCH packed into each chapter that it’s hard to do a close read. It casts a wide net and gives an overview of each topic. It’s almost like a bunch of pamphlets combined into one. I can see using this as the basis of a middle or high school club for students who want to engage in some sort of service project. It would be a great launching point for students to get started and inspire ideas for helping people in need.

I so appreciate the work Dale has done to write this book. It's filled with stories of women and girls across the globe and helps us to better understand what their lives and struggles look like. The bonus is that every single chapter includes multiple opportunities for readers to get involved and offers ways to support women. Super helpful for me to have options that have been vetted.
