She desperately wants to find her father. He needs to make sure she can't.
Carly Stevens needs to fill in her past so that she can face her future. She takes a job caring for Joe Carrington's children, only to find that she's stepped into the middle of her own mystery--and into a struggle with an irresistible rancher who's own heartbreak has destroyed his trust in love.
Most of the Destiny Bay Romances are focused on the beach town, but just a few miles inland there lies a valley, Destiny Valley, and the dusty little town of Destiny that forms the hub of cattle country, horse country, and the orchards. The Carringtons who live here are a different breed. They’re hard working people, people who have a love for the land and a passion for those who mean the most to them. Book #2, DESTINY RANCH, is out now!
Original version published in print by Harlequin Superromance and recently revised as part of the Destiny Bay Series
***This matches the description of her book Joe's Miracle (Harlequin Super Romance #544), however, not sure if should combine since this series is being re-written and some of the books appeared to have changed character names, etc.
I would be lying if I said I understood completely why Carly came back to Destiny Bay after so long away. She was such a small child when she and her mother left that I found her memories hard to believe. I don't remember that much from such a young age, let alone as clearly as she did. But despite that I really liked this book. Once she got settle with Joe and the kids it made up for the confusion I felt about her even being there. I found her way of engaging with both the kids to be really believable for someone with no experience with children. Her understanding of what they needed and when was admirable. I really liked Joe and how he struggled to be the best day but still provide for his family the best way he could. Millie and Trevor were both delightful when they were being focused on or even just involved in something. I HATED Phyllis. She's a perfect character to hate in my opinion. I'm not sure even with her later intervention for Millie's sake that the woman had any redeeming qualities at all. All in all, this was just as good as the other Destiny Bay books I've read before it.
Past and Present come together unearthing long-held secrets and unleashing both Carly and Joe's tether on their mutual inability to commit. Not only does this combination create relationship issues between these two but Joe's children, Beth and Jeremy, also get drawn into the middle of everything.
What started out as a journey of one woman's search for answers inside herself evolved into something she never looked for nor even realized she was missing.
The classic big city girl returns to small town from her childhood and finds the love of a lifetime and a family she never dreamed of having.
Nice set of second chances for others happiness as well rounded out this one.
This is the second book in the Destiny Bay ranchers series by the awesome Helen Conrad...this story is about Joe Carrington and Carly Stevens... He needs someone to care for his children she takes the job... she needs to find out who her Father is.. I love her character and her determination to get to the bottom of things... Joe on the other hand was a jerk at times... yet I loved the way he struggled to be the best Dad.. but still provide for his family the best way he could..As for Phylss she had no redeeming features in fact wanted to put her up against a wall and smack her !!! This is another great romantic story with mystery.. Laughter and heart ache... Would Carly learn who her father is .. Or would Joe succeed in stopping her... I detest spoilers so you will have to read the book to fins out the ending...
In this 2nd book the storyline was okay the mystery part of this story kind of confused me. My heart broke for Joe & his children. I really liked Carly's character, & how determined she was to get to the bottom of things. I wish this book had more romance other than that it was just an okay story to read.
This was an enjoyable read but would have been a lot better if the character of Joe had a few more strengths and wasn't such an all round jerk...not much of a love interest, IMHO. If, as the synopsis suggests, Ms. Conrad was attempting to make him sound "irresistible," she failed. Those Carringtons really are stinkers.
